Mexico(MNN) ―  HCJB Global Hands received an invitation from Samaritan's Purse to help the flood victims in southern Mexico's Tabasco state. The area was inundated with severe flooding earlier this month.

The eight member emergency medical response team is from Quito, Ecuador, and they will spend two weeks in Mexico providing physical and spiritual care to victims. The doctors say they often have a chance to pray with patients and encourage them in their relationship with Christ.

The team includes 4 Ecuadorian medical doctors. The other group members will oversee women and children's ministries and also help in communications and logistics. Representing the team, Dr. Brad Quist says, "Everything we do in community development we try to balance the physical as well as the spiritual outreach and they are affecting communities around the world for good health but also for Jesus Christ." Quist added that the team will be involved mainly in primary care, working in conjunction with Samaritan's Purse.

A small state in the Yucatan Peninsula, Tabasco has seen about a million people flee their homes since the area's worst flooding in 40 years hit the area. Hundreds of thousands have sought shelter in relief centers or fled to other parts of Mexico.
