The ongoing violence and tension are the result of a dispute between the government and the Shri Amarnath Shrine Board. The situation has forced the Bridge of Hope center, a ministry of Gospel for Asia, to remain closed the past month. The centers are designed to help children out of poverty by providing them an education and introducing them to Jesus and God's love.
Mob violence left 50 people injured recently, and people are afraid to leave their homes even for food. Many stores have closed down. Buildings were set on fire, and villages have created curfews which people are blatantly violating. Travel has been very difficult, which means that GFA's missionaries and film crew have had to stop their outreach.
GFA is asking for prayers that the dispute will be settled peacefully so their ministry can resume full-force. As always, sponsors are needed for children at the Bridge of Hope center.
