USA (MNN) ― Gulf Coast ports continue their slow recovery from the fury of Hurricane Ike.
Officials in Texas say some homes and businesses could be without power for more than a month in the wake of Hurricane Ike. Many communities are under curfew to help curtail looting.
Charles Debter with Global Aid Network says, "Port Arthur, Texas is one of those that was swept by the 'dirty side' of the hurricane--that eastern blow of the winds and the surge. We are working with partners there to set up a point of distribution of emergency aid assistance."
Already, six truckloads of aid have been delivered and distributed. A point of distribution is operational in the Houston area.
Current plans are to be able to fund and position one truckload of ice, water, and food each day in these locations. So far, 17 to 20 loads of emergency aid are expected to be delivered and distributed among people struggling to restart life again along the Texas coast.
Debter says they're working with Convoy of Hope to establish aid distribution points. But their work with the local church is where sharing the hope of Christ happens. "Through those churches, volunteers are able to help and to make available things like food, water, ice--those critically-needed items--and then really to just be listening ears and ones who can speak encouragement and hope."
Pray that the Lord would strengthen the Christians in Texas and that the Lord would minister to them and through them in their communities. Click here if you can help.
