International (MNN) ― 25 years ago, a small group of United Methodists had a passion to take Christ to the world's under-evangelized and unreached people.
On January 6, 1984, they created a non-denominational missionary sending agency that went against the norm and put the future of the mission in the supporting hands of individuals and local churches.
What they offered in faith, God has used mightily. Aside from the thousands who are now part of the body of Christ, the Mission Society is still a faith ministry.
The Mission Society is funded through the support of thousands of churches, foundations, and individuals who partner together to further the ministry. Seventy-six percent of all gifts for the ministry come from individuals and foundations, while the remaining portion comes from churches around the United States.
It's a calling that remains vital. An estimated 1.8 billion people have yet to hear the Gospel of Christ. In response to that, the Mission Society developed ministries that address the needs of today's world and exhibit a culture marked by people of integrity, a genuine prayer life, and obedience to the mission of bringing people to Christ.
Today, the Mission Society has 225 missionaries serving in 32 nations around the world.
Pray that God will continue to use their hands and feet in His service. Click here for more information on how you can help.
