Burkina Faso (MNN) ― Wycliffe Associates needs people to support its Bible translation teams in Burkina Faso.
The teams are working on translating the Bible into 22 languages, as well as providing literacy education and training other teams for translation work in Africa.
Less than 20 percent of the country's population is literate: males have a literacy rate under 30 percent, with females under 10 percent.
The ministry in Burkina Faso currently has 79 vacant positions. The five positions with the highest priority include the following: site volunteer coordinator, construction supervisor, prayer intercessor, computer specialist, and administrative assistant for language programs.
The ministry also needs people to work in accounting, communications, administration, maintenance, ESL, linguistics and translation, education, and the library.
The people of Burkina Faso speak 68 different languages, but their official language is French. Fluency in French is not required for ministry there. Missionaries will easily be able to learn as much as they need on-site.
Bruce Smith, president and CEO of Wycliffe Associates, recently visited Burkina Faso. He noticed its exotic culture and observed that the people are remarkably polite, in comparison with most cultures.
"I'm not sure I've ever seen more polite drivers," he said. "Even the police are polite! Upon one's arrival, the immigration officers are polite. The baggage porters are polite. The store owners are polite. It is incredibly refreshing and hopefully contagious!"
