Story number 3 for 2 Nov 2000

Posted: 2 November, 2000

In the midst of typhoon season, flooding and other related problems in the Philippines, Book of Hope has launched Manila Hopefest 2000. Over 175 churches are partnering in this tremendous evangelistic effort that started October 2nd and will conclude on December 15th. Book of Hope's John Young explains their strategy. "We've targeted different areas of the city where we are doing distributions in the schools during the day, and having outreaches at night. The whole distribution will culminate with a three-night concert, December 12th, 13th, and 14th, where they're going to have huge evangelistic crusades geared towards youth. They're hoping that through the whole outreach that about 800-thousand kids will be reached." Young adds that their goal is long-term; he says the churches there need prayer support. "There's a real hunger through the churches to reach kids and they're [the churches are] extremely involved in the outreach. So, our hope is to see the church grow with young people from Manila and to affect that generation."
