Haiti (MNN) ― Haiti's fall has put a stop to one ministry's efforts to get Scripture into the hands of the poor.
Tom Dudenhofer with Audio Scripture Ministries says they can't move forward. "The translation has been started, however, it's run into a lot of roadblocks. We have permission to do the recording, but we cannot proceed with the recording until the translation is complete."
ASM is collaborating with the World Bible Translation Center, which sustained heavy damage in the quake. Their Haitian Bible Editor, Jean, says on the seminary campus, many students, staff, and faculty were in the main academic building when major parts of it collapsed. "Miraculously, a lot of us were able to get out--those who were trapped in the building were rescued except for two that are not accounted for. The damage done to the building is beyond repair."
The loss of equipment and the building, along with the logistical problems in Haiti post-quake, have effectively stopped the Easy-To-Read Creole Translation.
Dudenhofer says WBTC's work best fit the audience they want to reach with the hope of Christ. "We know that good work has been done both in Bible translation, and there are even some audio Scripture recordings in Haitian Creole. However, an Easy-To-Read version makes great sense to us, given the large number of people who have very limited educational opportunities in that country and the many people who do not read."
WBTC followed God's leading to Haiti in 2007. Since then, they have been working on an Easy-to-ReadTM Haitian Creole Version that will give nearly nine million Creole speakers the clear message of Jesus.
WBTC's team of translators is there to show people that Jesus is the Good News. They are trying to figure out how to pick up the pieces and finish the translation, printing, and distribution of the Book of John.
ASM has received requests for the Haitian Creole Scriptures. Dudenhofer urges believers to ask God to open the way so the work can be completed and eventually recorded. There are other ways to help.
