Haiti (MNN) ― As clean up continues in Haiti, there is still a vast need for medical care. In the beginning, medical aid may have consisted of working directly with those injured in the quake, but attention has now shifted to those suffering the after-effects.
HCJB Global is sending its second round of people to Port-au-Prince, Haiti from Ecuador to provide medical care beginning at the end of this week. The team will be working in conjunction with Samaritan's Purse and Baptist Haiti Mission as did the last team of physicians who went to Haiti directly following the quake.
"When the first team came, there was a lot of chaos and trauma--especially during the first few days. What we're seeing now is mostly infections, diseases and things like that," said Samaritan's Purse communications liaison Melissa Strickland in a recent HCJB press release.
Besides providing medical care, the HCJB team will be handing out 100 fixed-tuned, solar-powered radios to patients they encounter.
HCJB also hopes to meet with partner Radio Lumière--a Christian radio and television network that covers 90 percent or Haiti--to begin work with Mission Evangélique Baptiste du Sud d’Haïti (MEBSH). MEBSH is a similar group to HCJB and works in radio, community development, clinics and hospitals. This may be one more opportunity to effectively spread the love of Christ in Haiti.
Radio Lumière has already seen many people come to Christ through their broadcasts and says many are still searching for Truth. Pray that the upcoming mission trip would provide opportunities for the HCJB team to tell the message of Jesus Christ, and that it would also provide more opportunities for HCJB to continue spreading the Gospel in Haiti.
