Pakistan (MNN) ― Flooding in Pakistan has killed thousands and affected millions. Resources have also been cut slim. International Mission Board is working as fast as they can to send aid.

IMB reports that the major Karakoram Highway will be closed for six weeks, grounding people where they are or making their journeys more difficult. Diesel for trucks and generators is already gone, and other resources such as gas, cooking oil, food cylinders, and phone recharge cards are running out.

According to IMB's research, at least 1.8 million people have been left homeless by the floods. Many are still in need of rescue.

IMB is committed to serving Pakistanis in need. So far Southern Baptists have given over $80,000 in emergency funds to Pakistan relief efforts. They have also allocated $10,000 to India, where flooding has also done significant damage.

IMB-affiliated missionaries have linked arms with Pakistani Christians to dole out hot meals, rice, flour, lentils, chickpeas, sugar, tea, condensed milk and matches. The funds sent to Pakistan have also gone to purchase temporary shelters and tents to help house at least some of the hundreds of thousands of people now without homes.

One IMB worker says, "Projects being funded by Southern Baptists stretch from the north to the south. Feeding is taking place everywhere, as well as some provision of temporary shelter." As IMB workers bring physical help across the nation, they also bring the true hope of Christ to flood survivors.

Pray that the Lord would use IMB's ministry and relief efforts in Pakistan to feed and rehabilitate thousands as IMB workers live out the Gospel. Pray for strength and energy for ministry workers, and pray that Pakistani survivors would be soothed by their presence.
