Afghanistan (MNN) ― On August 10, we reported that CURE International was mourning the loss of 10 humanitarian aid workers in Afghanistan. Despite the terrible loss, CURE remains in Afghanistan with more commitment to the war-torn country than ever.
The health care situation in Afghanistan is dire. While the U.S. basks in the luxury of 26 doctors for every 10,000 of its citizens, Afghanistan bends under the strain of having only two doctors for each 10,000 people.
CURE was recently awarded a $100,000 grant from the Motorola Foundation to support the CURE International Family Medicine Residency Program. This program is the first of its kind in Afghanistan and will educate Afghan doctors in areas including internal medicine, pediatrics, general surgery, obstetrics and gynecology, and orthopedics.
This three-year program will not only be a vital instrument for the improvement of health care in Afghanistan, but it will also serve as a light in the darkness. CURE is committed to serving with Christ's love and humility as they reach people with physical and spiritual healing across the world. Pray that this new program would be a witness of the Great Physician as health care is improved and lives are changed for Christ.
