International (MNN) ― Poverty is on the rise. Close to one billion people around the world live on less than $1 a day, and that number has grown by 74 million in 24 months due to the recent economic environment.
Amid those heightened concerns, the United Nations warned that the current financial crisis "threatens the well-being of billions of people, none more so than the poorest of the poor." It will only compound the problems posed by higher food and fuel prices.
The issue of international poverty can seem so big it's hard to know where to start making an impact.
That's why Bright Hope International is holding a three-day Poverty Summit October 5, 6 and 7 to explore why this is happening and what can be done about it.
Their team works to provide holistic help to the extreme poor through the indigenous church delivering basic needs, including physical, economic and spiritual help.
On each evening of the Summit, Bright Hope's project developers from Africa, Asia and Latin America will talk about their projects.
They'll share stories about the incredible life change that has taken place and the challenges faced as the ministry seeks to bring the love of Jesus to those living in difficult and desperate circumstances.
This is a special event with no cost to
attendees. Bright Hope asks that participants only come with an open heart and
mind, listening to how God may be moving you to serve the poor and partner with
Bright Hope. Click here for more information.
