Haiti(MNN) ― One year after the earthquake that flipped the country upside down, much of the Haitian population is mourning this week. Baptist Haiti Mission is giving thanks.

"Today we are filled not with sorrow, but with humble gratitude," expresses a BHM headline.

It has been a difficult year for every ministry in Haiti. No life or organization has gone unaffected. Still, BHM is thrilled with the ways the Lord has used the disaster to build His kingdom and has provided for many through their ministry.

The ministry lists the following accomplishments as reason for gratitude:

• One year later, with the support of friends like you, our missionaries and staff on the field have worked nonstop in earthquake relief ministries.
• Thousands of people have come to claim Christ.
• Hundreds of earthquake survivors have received excellent care for their injuries and are well on their way to healing.
• Dozens of new homes have been built by our local construction teams as well as by generous volunteer mission teams from around the world.
• A Cholera Clinic has been established to provide the best care available to local cholera victims.
• Our regular ministries of Christian Child Education, Pastor Training, Agricultural Development, and Self Help have continued in full swing.

There is certainly much to be done still, but the Lord has been good to this ministry. And their healthy perspective of gratitude instead of anxiety undoubtedly makes them a light in a dark place.

Pray that the Lord would continue to use BHM as a conduit for kingdom growth in Haiti. Pray that even this week as people reflect on the last year, they would come to BHM staff or churches and commit or recommit their lives to the One who holds them in His hands.
