Story number 1 for 8 Feb 2002

Posted: 8 February, 2002

Our newscast begins today on the streets of Kabul, Afghanistan. The war there has decimated the city's male population, leaving hundreds of widows fighting for the survival of their families. There are areas where aid simply isn't enough to sustain the people. Operation Blessing International's Kumar Periasamy says they're meeting the immediate need, with an eye cast toward the future. "We also hope that, in the long run, we'll be able to express our physical compassion to them more and share with them about God and other things. People can pray for opportunities to open up, and for more people to get involved." Periasamy says the greatest problem in the project is funding. "I don't see any other obstacles. There are security issues. There are other issues as well, but, the Afghan people are so good at protecting us because simply because they know that we are there to help them. They have no future. If we can reach out to them, and say, 'We are here to love you and take care of you', we can do a whole lot."
