Pencils, pens, crayons, and pads of paper are standard issue in schools across North America, millions of orphans in places like Russia, Belarus, and Uganda have no access to basic items like these.
GAiN USA's Charles Debter explains that putting together a CarePAck, with a few simple items and a letter goes a long way toward outreach. "...And that personalizes the gift so much to say that 'someone loves you.'"
What's more, "...each CarePack is given by one of our mission participants that takes the good news of the Gospel of Jesus Christ."
Debter says because of the area of the former Soviet Union that they work in, the CarePacks are necessary to get the foot in the door. "Having CarePacks to offer gives us the opportunity to come into places that we might not otherwise have the opportunity to share the Gospel, if we didn't have anything. Not only do we have the chance to share with the children, but most often, with the principal of the school, with the caregivers of the orphanage."
Even with school starting in the States, Debter says it's not too late to get involved. They still have teams collecting and packaging the supplies for overseas shipment.
