President of MAF Kevin Swanson says, "(It) looks like our biggest contribution right now is going to be in the communications area. There (are) over 200 organizations that are participating in the relief effort there. But, the terrain is so mountainous and the area is so isolated that there's no communication available."
So, MAF is establishing two communications centers at a cost of $50,000 (USD) each. Swanson says while this kind of work isn't evangelistic, it allows for it. "As we have the opportunity to stay medium to long term in an area, people notice that we are different, that we have something to offer. And, God has opened many, many doors for our people, even in places that are really closed to the Gospel."
MAF is also using two of their airplanes to ferry people in and out of the earthquake zone. Swanson says there's no way to plan for a disaster like this and they need your help. "As people partner together with us, it's not just to bring immediate relief from the suffer that these people are facing, but it is also hopefully to show them an alternative for eternal relief."
