With the help of HCJB World Radio and Prison Fellowship International, New Life Radio, Christian Radio for Russia, is entering a new phase of its ministry. They plan to reach Russian and Ukrainian prison inmates with the message of hope.
Currently, New Life Radio is broadcasting directly to more than 20 prisons, but they will be adding another 28 in the Moscow region and outlying areas. They connect to these prisons with a satellite downlink. HCJB World Radio and Prison Fellowship are directing these installations. According to New Life's Dan Johnson, prison officials are anxious to receive Christian programming.
The ministry isn't stopping in Russia, though. HCJB World Radio has announced a second prison radio project in Ukrainian prisons. In conjunction with the Ukrainian Bible Society, this could set the stage for major access to prison populations.
However, funding is needed. It Costs up to $2,500 to equip each prison. Funding is also needed to help sponsor the on-air staff at New Life Radio.
