Philippines (MNN) ― Economic competition throughout Asia, along with a global economy, means English-language training is in demand.
SEND International's Samuel Kuka works with the Asia Center for TESOL in the Philippines. The training they give allows their teams to minister in creative access areas like the Mekong Delta.
Once their teams are trained in the Philippines, they go into Vietnam, Cambodia, Thailand, Bangladesh, and also Indonesia and Malaysia.
The people are crying out for English teachers. "Their English instruction is not very good and so their English proficiency is quite low. This allows our graduates to go there and, as believers, they're able to touch lives."
Companies often require their employees to learn English. But, adults learning a new language can be reduced to the communication ability of a two-year old.
"If people are struggling with this and learning a language," Kuka adds, 'this can be a great time where a believer can come alongside, befriend them, and share the good news of Jesus Christ with them."
The TESOL Center sees their mission accomplished by offering a holistic approach to lesson planning and delivery; linguistics; second language acquisition; theories and styles of learning; theories and methods of teaching speaking, reading, writing, listening, grammar and pronunciation; needs analysis, syllabus design and materials development; use of media; classroom management; testing; and program design and evaluation.
