Sudan (MNN) ― Two men are helping to rebuild lives among youth in the church of Sudan.
While studying at the Emmanuel Christian Training Center (ECTC) in southern Sudan, Elisa Akero and Simon Lasuba became aware of the need to train youth in the church of Sudan.
Open Doors backs the construction of a multi-purpose training centre. The ECTC is already bringing hope to many southern Sudanese who thought that they would never see development in their area again.
The ministry also keeps an eye out for those who have a unique vision. Akero and Lasuba caught their attention because of the far-reaching potential cyclical impact of their teaching plan.
In fact, they helped launch the "New Generation for Nations" (NGN) ministry. Open Doors works with NGN to reach out to the youth of southern Sudan with the Gospel and equip them for discipleship, training, and outreaches.
According to ODM, most of the trainees are young men who work among the youth in their congregations. Once a month they choose a venue from among the churches they know and meet for discipleship. Here they share from the Word of God and encourage others to testify about what God has done in their lives.
The freedom to pursue this vision is a dream for many. While the country (Darfur) still has troubles, in the days since the 2005 peace accord was signed, for the most part the accord has held.
With security issues coming under control in much of the South, the NGN training sessions can take place twice a year. This year, they want to have an annual conference to bring together youth from all over the greater south in one location.
At the ECTC, Open Doors wants to see scores of lay leaders equipped to be church leaders, youth leaders, Sunday School teachers, Christian teachers, evangelists, and women's ministry leaders. Click here if you can help.
