A water ministry celebrates a milestone

USA (MNN) — A ministry that supplies the basics of human and spiritual life is celebrating a milestone. Living Water International is celebrating 15 years of providing water and the Gospel around the world.

President of Living Water International Jerry Wiles says God has used their ministry. “We have now completed more than 2,500 water projects serving roughly four and a half million people drinking clean safe drinking water over the last 15 years.”

While this seems like a large number, Wiles says it doesn’t compare to the world wide need. He says there are 1.2 billion people without clean safe drinking water.

According to Wiles, Living Water International has water projects in more than 70 countries. He says this ministry is enabling them to get into countries closed to the Gospel. “The billion plus people without access to clean safe drinking water are the same people that are living on less than a dollar a day and they’ve had the least access to the Gospel. So, we’re talking about the neediest people on the planet both physically and spiritually.”

Working with a groups of believers is the best way to share the Gospel. “If we can work with a little group of people that get a little piece of property and builds a church and we drill a water well and then they freely share their clean safe drinking water, (it) really builds a bridge and opens the door and it’s a great demonstration of the Love of Christ and people are opened up to the Gospel.”

The great part about Living Water International’s ministry is you can help. “We are doing between 40 and 50 mission trips this year in Central American countries. This is a place where people can go and get their hands on — and it’s usually an eight day trip. So, we have lots of opportunities for people to actually go on mission trips to Central American countries.”
