Churches in the U.S. need help with the hurting

By September 19, 2007

USA (MNN) — The society in the United States is becoming more and more complex. Kids now have three sets of grandparents. Sexual addiction for men and women is growing at incredible rates. Divorce is at an all time high–for Christians. According to Purpose Driven Ministries, this is the reality.

16 years ago, Saddleback Church launched Celebrate Recovery with 43 people. It was designed as a program to help those struggling with hurts, habits, and hand-up by showing them the loving power of Jesus Christ through a recovery process. According to Purpose Driven, the programs has helped more than 9,000 people at that church, while attracting more than 70-percent of those participating from outside the church. 85-percent who go through the program stayed in church and nearly half serve in the church.

Purpose Driven ministries would like to help churches start similar programs around the U.S. They're helping by providing one-day seminars. The seminars will be held September 29 at Grace Church in Racine, WI; October 13 at New Hope Community Church in Portland, OR; October 27 at Blueridge Community Church in Forest, VA; November 3 at First Baptist Church of Downey, California; and November 10 at Concordia Lutheran Church in San Antonio, TX.
