Haiti (MNN) — The Great Commission has always been on the hearts of West Michigan couple Dan and Cherese Gordon. Now, they’re passing on the passion for serving God through missions to their six children: Jamin, Stella, Zander, Adaira, Titus, and Gideon.

Each year, Dan and Cherese lead a team from their home church to serve the people of La Gonave, Haiti, through a partnership with mission group, Starfysh. Jamin Gordon, 12, served on last year’s team, and 10-year-old Stella will be serving alongside her parents in 2014.

“I’ve always wanted to go on a missions trip,” Stella states. “I’m looking forward to playing with the kids.”

Cherese became passionate about missions shortly after becoming a believer. Seeing her children “catch the missions bug” is an answer to prayer.

“It means everything to me,” says Cherese. “In fact, it’s a huge dream of mine to have all our children serve the Lord together.

“It’s neat to watch your children grow in Christ and be able to serve this way.”

For Stella, the family connection is more about security.

“My parents are going to be with me the whole time, so I won’t get scared,” she states.

While Stella and Cherese minister to kids in La Gonave, husband and father Dan Gordon will be leading a three-day mobile dental clinic. He and his teammates will be cleaning teeth and caring for dental trauma cases. Last year, the team treated approximately 45 patients.

This week, the Gordon family is serving alongside a team of five from their home church. In addition to the dental clinic, team members are distributing water filters, sharing God’s love with orphans, and distributing Operation Christmas Child shoeboxes at the end of the week.

Will you pray for the team as they begin this journey?

Please pray for travel mercies as they commute to and from ministry sites. Pray that as physical needs are met through the dental clinic, the team will be able to sow Gospel seeds. Ask the Lord to bless and protect the families supporting this short-term mission team.

Above all else, pray that the Lord will use Gordons and the entire Starfysh team to accomplish His will in Haiti.
