Need an internship? Orphan ministry needs you

By January 11, 2010

USA (MNN) — There are millions of orphans around the world. James 1 says pure religion is taking care of the widows and orphans. This summer you could help Orphans through an Orphan Outreach internship.

Communications Director Tiffany Taylor says, "We have internships for college-age students and young adults who are really interested in orphan ministry. These are internship where you go and live for a month overseas and work with the nationals who are actually on the ground doing orphan ministry."

Orphan Outreach is looking for interns for their ministries in India, Russian, Guatemala and Honduras. Taylor says this is hands-on work. "It's amazing the kind of experiences they get. Many of them get to live with nationals — eat every day and live in these communities — doing orphan ministry with kids who wouldn't ever get the chance to hear the message of Christ."

As an intern, you'll help with vacation Bible school, camps, teaching English, and other opportunities that will help children in need.

Any student is welcome to sign up. Taylor says, "I have seen college interns go who thought they were going in one path in life, and the Lord just showed them a whole new world."

It's a spiritual learning experience, says Taylor. "The Lord shows you His love for His children and gives you the opportunity to learn how you can use your gifts best."

The internships are coming up quickly. "The internships are all for the summer of 2010. And applications are due this January 31.

If you're interested in joining Orphan Outreach and their internship program, you are responsible for a few things. "Our interns raise their own support. We offer them all of their training. They actually come to Dallas for a few days before they go, and we work with them on teamwork and bonding with the other interns."
