Denver, Colo (MNN) — Bill McCartnery, president of Promise Keepers (PK), the international ministry to men he founded 13 years ago, is resigning effective October 1 to care for his wife and spend more time with his family.

Promise Keepers told Mission Network News that McCartney’s notice of resignation came during the board’s quarterly meeting this week. As a result, board chairman Gen. Alonzo Short announced the board formed an internal committee to prayerfully select McCartney’s successor to lead the ministry. Short will continue serving as interim president, a role he has held since McCartney went on a board approved six-moth sabbatical in March. He took time off to care for his wife who’s battling a severe respiratory illness.

McCartney says, “God has assigned me to be a husband and a grandfather. (And), the ministry of Promise Keepers is not finished. It is needed now more than even. I am confident that the Lord will direct and empower the ministry to move foreward in strength and support. The opportunities for PK are limitless.”
