Volunteers needed to love orphans

By April 16, 2008

USA (MNN) — James 1:27 says true religion that God accepts is caring for the widows and orphans. That's exactly what Orphan Outreach wants to do–to help you care for the orphans around the world. Today you're helping Orphan Outreach care for orphans. However, they need more help.

Orphan Outreach's Tiffany Taylor says they have three trips planned in the fall. "We're looking for at least 15 people for each of our trips that we still have to fill this year. We've got a number of wonderful short-term options. "

They're trying to fill teams for orphan ministry trips to Russia, Guatemala, Honduras and India. "These are children from very impoverished situations — children without parents. Some may have parents but are very poor children. And they will be bringing the Gospel to these kids. Every day they'll be going to different orphanages and Christian schools."

Each participant will form vacation Bible school teams. Taylor says you don't need any experience: just know the Lord. "All you need on these trips is just a desire to love God's children. You don't have to have any other experience. These children just want a warm hug and a smile, and the love of Christ will show through you."

Despite the down turn in the U.S. economy, Taylor says, "So far, on the trips that we've put out there, the Lord has just called up His people to go on the trips. If God is moving in your heart to go and you put it out there to your friends and family, it's just such a blessing how the Lord blesses people with the financial support so that they can still be able to go on these trips."

Taylor says in many cases you'll be going in to orphanages that have never had visitors from the outside. She says, "It's just amazing to me to see how open the children are and how God prepares their hearts for these teams. They are just so eager to hear."
