Nepal (MNN) — On Saturday, April 25, 2015, the country of Nepal was hit with a 7.8 magnitude earthquake centered less than 50 miles from the city of Kathmandu. The devastating force of the quake toppled homes, temples, and historic buildings, killing hundreds and displacing thousands. Now ministries are involved in Nepal Earthquake Relief.

churches gather on Saturdays. Gospel for Asia is reporting (as of April 25) at least five GFA churches were destroyed. It’s unknown how many of their other 450+ churches have been affected.

In February, Baptist Global Response completed emergency response training in Nepal. They received Sphere Project Training–the most widely-known and accepted instruction for meeting needs during a humanitarian crisis. It identifies a set of minimum standards in key lifesaving sectors, which are reflected in the Handbook’s four technical chapters: water supply, sanitation and hygiene promotion; food security and nutrition; shelter, settlement, and non-food items; and health action. The minimum standards are evidence-based and represent sector-wide consensus on best practice in humanitarian response.
