40 Days of Prayer for Iran continues, God is working

Iran (MNN) — The price of oil dropped below $70 a barrel after Iran’s president welcomed a proposal to defuse a standoff over Tehran’s nuclear work. Sanctions would have caused even higher prices. What’s amazing is Iran’s openness and many Christians point to the 40 Days of Prayer and Fasting for Iran, currently underway.

Evangelist Sammy Tippit is participating in the event. Tippit broadcasts Christian programming into the Persian language. “One of the reasons I am convinced that the greatest weapon that we have in impacting nations and bringing the Gospel of peace to this world, is prayer. When we begin to come before His throne a plead to Him, things happen. I don’t know all the theology of that, I just know things happen.”

And things are happening, especially through Tippit’s satellite television broadcasts. “Inside Iran we know of several places where there are groups of people who have all come to Christ through our ministry and as a result they have formed house churches.”

According to Tippit the increase in the number of believers in Iran has caused more persecution. “There have been pastors who have been arrested. There have been key leaders in the country that have had great problems. It’s been a time of darkness encroaching. It’s reminds me of the time in Romania,” Just before communism was defeated.

This week, Tippit is holding a leadership conference for Persian Christians. “One of the things we’re trying to do is train the leaders to pray and they train their people to pray so there can be a growing prayer movement throughout the country.”

Tippit needs funding to help with production and other related costs.
