Middle East (MNN)–Instability in the Middle East has had an adverse effect on families in the region.

However, SAT-7’s Debbie Brink says their programming response prompted an audience reaction they didn’t expect.

She attributes a 40-percent jump in response to addressing a felt need. “One very exciting trend is regarding a program called ‘The Happy Marriage’, which was a program that we aired toward the end of last year. We saw 20,000 responses come in just for that program, which touches on a real felt need in the region.”

SAT-7 CEO Terry Ascott. explains that, “Globally, the family is the basic building block of our society. Yet, it seems today that the very institution of the family is being challenged, even in the very family-oriented Middle East and North Africa.”

Brink says their work supports local churches in community ministry. It also speak volumes on the role family plays in a volatile region. “It validates the fact that we have partnered with the Bible Societies this year to sponsor ‘The Year of the Family’ in the Middle East. So, a lot of our programs this year are being geared towards that theme of ‘The Year of the Family’.”

The slogan of the Year of the Family campaign is “Together We Can Shape The Future!” and the objectives of the campaign include: emphasizing the important role of the family in today’s world, dealing with the root causes of the challenges facing families today, working with the churches to instill Christian values in home life, affirming the unique role of each member of the family.
