Christians excited about political change in India

India (MNN) — India’s new coalition government is in place and the new parliament is now in session. This change is giving Christians a sense of excitement as they continue reaching out with the Gospel.

HBI Global Partners Bobby Gupta says, “This coalition is a government that is more receptive to allowing people to actually practice their religion. The previous government was promising that they would make India a very strong Hindu nation. And so, it was a very challenging thing for the church, but with this new change in our government this is going to give great opportunities for us.”

While Christians are happy about the changes, Gupta says, “This is not an indefinite situation where the church can assume that we’re going to have this indefinite liberty to go on forever. I think God has just reminded us that He is in control.”

HBI Global Partners is training pastors to plant churches all over India. Gupta says, “Our goal in our movement is to actually plant 10,000 church by the year 2015. But, our vision and goal for the nation is to mobilize 200,000 pastors who will plant five churches each so we will have 1-million churches in India.”

Gupta is asking Christians to continue pray for believers as they train pastors, fan out into communities, and plant churches. Pray that Hindu radical violence will be kept in check and that Christians will feel free to carry out their work.
