By September 19, 2005

USA (MNN/EFCA) — As relief is now shifting to recovery in the hurricane zone, ministries are reaching out to assist fellow Christians.

Evangelical Free Church of America’s Compassion Ministries quickly responding to the unprecedented damage and conditions created by Hurricane Katrina. To date, donations have been distributed helping Castle Rock Church of New Orleans, Trinity Church of Covington, Louisiana, and a network of Evangelical Free churches in Texas that have organized to assist displaced families arriving there.

Compassion Ministries is focusing on care for those who are currently displaced, while simultaneously organizing preparations for clean-up and rebuilding efforts. Please give and volunteer because this crisis represents unparalleled opportunity for ministry.

The resources needed to sustain families now away from their jobs and homes will be incredible. This affords the Church an opportunity to respond. Money is and will be needed for many months to come.

If you are interested in sending a team to assist with rebuilding, please be sure to contact Compassion Ministries during your planning. The situation in the effected areas is still very difficult, making proper preparations is essential. Presently, Compassion Ministries is seeking teams made up of people from the same church or geographic location if possible, rather than individual workers. Teams will be needed for work on-site over the next 3 months. Compassion Ministries anticipates deploying multiple teams at one time, with an approximate total of 60 workers on-site at one time.

    To whom it may concern:

I was greatly affected by the horrific devastation of Hurricane Katrina. It is a very long story, but I eventually lost my last apartment because of a lost of job. I asked my family for assistance. They offered, but I still ended up homeless. I have tried most organizations in New Orleans and continue to be ignored and given excuses. I have been living in my car for over a year.I am requesting assistance with buying a home. Your time and full cooperation would be greatly appreciated, during these very difficult times for me. God bless you!

    Sincerely,
    Anna McKinnon
