India (MNN/BGR) — Human trafficking is a $32 billion global industry. Approximately 80% of human trafficking victims are women and girls; 1.2 million children are trafficked every year.

In India alone, 2.3 million people have been sold into slavery. But, even in the darkest of times, hope exists.

Baptist Global Response (BGR) partners see it first-hand.

BGR partners operate a registered children’s home in Northeast India called the Seven Sisters Home. It provides a sanctuary for girls who have been rescued from the prison of abuse known as sex slavery. The Seven Sisters Home provides medical, psychological, educational, and spiritual attention in a loving family environment.

Bornali, a Seven Sisters Home resident, endured beatings and starvation as a modern-day slave. In the safe haven provided by BGR partners, Bornali received proper meals on a regular basis.

Now, her health has improved tremendously. Her skin has cleared up, her hair looks healthier, and she’s grown three inches.

But, some of the girls at the Seven Sisters Home are still healing.Psychological effects can take years to recover from.

Ka is one of those still healing. Though she is safe, she still has trouble dealing with memories of the brothel.

BGR partners are encouraging her to listen to music in her tribal language, as a way to relieve some of the stress.

Girls continue to be nurtured and empowered so they can become resilient and independent women of courage, enabling them to successfully reintegrate into society and, ultimately, become change agents in the name of Jesus.

Help BGR as they minister to girls, and guide them on a path of healing. Provide for needs and introduce them to the love and goodness of Christ here.

Remember that this time on earth is very temporary and that out goal is to one day unite with Christ in total happiness in heaven.. I will pray for your strength and courage in the midst of such grave circumstances and ask God to give you comfort in your time of need. May blessings abide in your life!
