MNN’s Greg Yoder reports from Russia.

Russia (MNN) — The Mission Network News 15th Anniversary short-term trip is underway.

MNN’s Greg Yoder is in Russia with Frank Haley, the MNN listener who won the 15th anniversary trip-giveaway in July. They’re part of a team of 20 people all taking part in a Shoes For Orphan Souls trip with Buckner Orphan Care International.

The team will be distributing shoes and sharing the love of Christ to orphans. Yoder explains their task for this week: “What we’re going to be doing is going into various orphanages south of St Petersburg in what they call the Leningrad region of Russia, orphanages where not too many western groups have visited or supported them. And so this will be a new experience for many of the kids. It’s obviously a new experience for many of the adults. And what we’re going to be doing, in partnership with the local church (is) going in and sharing the Gospel through Vacation Bible School.”

Many young people in Russia are unsure about their futures, orphans especially. That uncertainty drives them to look for answers and Yoder hopes “that through the VBS, through the interpreters, through the local church that we’ll be able to touch hearts and lives through this special outreach.”

Yoder says prayer is needed. “Do be praying that we’ll stay healthy, and that we’ll be able to communicate the love of Christ in a way that these young people can understand. And also pray that God would prepare the way. Obviously, we can’t do anything without His power, without His strength and without His blessing, and without Him drawing these young people to Himself.”

Pray that the kids will see Christ in the team, and that many will be impacted by the Gospel.

Stay tuned to MNN for more coverage of Greg’s trip. He will be posting pictures and updates in the Special Reports page of our website.
