‘PowerPacks’ are being used to reach inner-city youth

USA (MNN) — Here’s Life Inner City , a ministry of Campus Crusade for Christ, is using backpacks to change the hearts of families in major cities in the United States.

According to Here’s Life’s Tedd Gandy, every year he hears stories about children and families transformed by God’s love through the simple, but important gift of a school backpack. Why do they have such an impact? As shocking as it may seem, we find that this backpack is the first brand-new thing an inner-city child has ever owned.

This year, Here’s Life would has a goal of distributing what they’re calling ‘PowerPacks’ to 2,530 children through inner-city churches and S.A.Y. Yes! Centers in 12 cities nationwide. Each backpack is filled with school necessities like crayons, ruler, paper, pencils and most importantly a Bible and Gospel mini-book.

A gift of $30 can supply a ‘PowerPack’ to a child and since it’s so valued, as they read Bible stories and God’s word it can have an incredible spiritual value. In a few instances they were instrumental in leading entire families to Christ.
