Rwanda (MNN) — Upon invitation by Rwandan President Paul Kagame, Rick Warren of Purpose Driven Ministries was recently in Rwanda to discuss creating a purpose-driven church and society there.

Thousands of Christians gathered in a stadium in the capital city of Kigali to celebrate the launch of Purpose Driven’s Global P.E.A.C.E. plan in Rwanda. The P.E.A.C.E. Plan’s goal is to tackle the five pervasive problems that affect billions of people in the world – spiritual darkness, lack of servant leaders around the world, poverty, disease and ignorance.

President Kagame says lack of spiritual guidance was responsible for the 1994 Rwanda Genocide where an estimated 800,000 people were killed in three months.

Warren and Kagame agree the church plays a strategic role in carrying out the plan and confronting the key issues. Warren expressed confidence that the Global P.E.A.C.E. Plan would spread from Rwanda across the world to move people to care about those in need.
