Story number 1 for 16 Oct 2000

By October 16, 2000

Our newscast begins in the Mekong Delta where monsoon rains are striking at sodden Vietnam, adding to the misery of unprecedented flood levels. With the storms, comes the threat of disease, food shortage and other plagues. Christian Blind Mission International’s Alan Harkey explains their concern. “We have a number of projects that we are managing in this area, working with deaf people. Some of our most important projects are right here in the crosshairs of this devastation, and we’re very, very concerned about our missionary coworkers and about the people God has entrusted to our care.” Harkey adds that even in the crisis, CBM staff’s top priority is ministry. “Suffering means hurting, and with hurting comes enormous questions. We have found, in the history of our ministry, that even in the midst of tragedies like this, God gives us an enormous opportunity to talk to people about the love of God.”
