Story number 2 for 14 Mar 2002

(Cambodia)–We turn next to Cambodia, where change is bringing the bitterness of warfare. Violent elections are reminding people of the time under the Khmer Rouge, an era long thought past. Far East Broadcasting Company is finally on the air with a 500-watt message of hope. President Jim Bowman says government corruption has been their main obstacle. “These are warlords, so to speak, that get into positions of power-they just change hats. So, we have thugs in control; there’s massive corruption. Therefore, probably the larger danger to FEBC’s operation in Cambodia is the lawlessness.” Bowman says there has never been a better time to reach out with the Gospel. “There is just a general sense of depression and hopelessness. I don’t know any other way to describe it than to say this is spiritual warfare. The only way I can think of to be inoculated against that is prayer. I don’t know any other preps to combating it but to say, ‘Lord, help us through this.'”
