(USA)–The Bush administration is proposing an eight million-dollar settlement involving U-S missionaries with the Association of Baptists for World Evangelism in Peru. Last April the Peru/U-S drug interdiction program misidentified their missionary plane as a drug smuggling operation when it was shot down. The mistake killed 35-year-old Veronica Bowers and her seven-month-old daughter. Her husband, Jim and the couple’s son escaped serious injury. Pilot Kevin Donaldson sustained serious leg wounds. Congress must still approve the settlement.
