Urbana ’06 is two months away

By October 27, 2006

USA (MNN) — Urbana ’06 Student Missions Convention is exactly two months away and already 17,000 people are registered for the largest missions convention in the United States. This year it’s being held in a larger new venue — Saint Louis, Missouri. 25,000 people are expected.

InterVarsity Christian Fellowship’s Urbana ’06 will be held at the Edward Jones Dome and the America’s Center, December 27-31, 2006.

Pastor James Williams, recently appointed Urbana’s representative to the Christian community in Saint Louis, says with more space available, Urbana ’06 will do more than focus on college students. “This conference is definitely going to have an emphasis on training pastors to focus on getting their members involved in world missions and short-term missions, as well as church leaders. So, with Rick Warren coming, this will definitely be an event for church leaders.”

December 30 will be urban emphasis night, featuring Rick Warren.

The biggest prayer request Williams has right now is getting the 2,000 to 3,000 volunteers needed to make Urbana ’06 run smoothly. Williams says, “You can volunteer for one day at a time for a minimum of four hours, or you can volunteer all day or you can do it all week. If you come and you offer yourself, you will get free registration.” According to Williams you don’t need any special training.

Williams says he’s nervous about his new responsibilities. “It’s exciting though. It’s kind of an excited nervousness because I can’t think of anything greater or more important than evangelizing the world.”
