USA (ANSMNN) -- Radio listeners fund Scripture distribution project

USA
(MNN/ANS) — American Family Radio, a 193-station Christian radio network in the
United States, partnered with Faith Comes By Hearing to hold a Military
Appreciation Week at the end of January.

The
goal: to provide Gospel access to those serving
in America's armed forces. The method
was through the Military BibleStick, a portable, digital audio player about
the size of a pack of gum, produced by FCBH.

The
news release reported that AFR leadership decided not only to partner
by talking about FCBH's Military BibleSticks on air, but they also joined
their listeners in making a generous contribution to the project.

Listeners donated more than $100,000, Assist News Service reported, which will provide 4,000 soldiers, sailors, airmen and marines with their own BibleStick, pre-loaded with a complete dramatized New Testament.

Because
of this effort, FCBH is making headway in eliminating a backorder of nearly
18,000 requests by chaplains from every branch of the military.

More
than 85,000 BibleSticks have been provided to military chaplains, free of
charge, since 2008. They, in turn, can
use them as tools during counseling or when providing encouragement to the
troops. Military hospitals have also
seen their use, as chaplains bring the hope of Christ to wounded soldiers.

"We
are so grateful to American Family Radio and their amazing listeners from
across the country for their outpouring of support for the brave members
of our armed forces," said Jerry Jackson, founder and president of
Faith Comes By Hearing, speaking in a news release.

Jackson
added, "This radio campaign is yet another example of ministry
partners reaping the blessings of working side-by-side to spread the Word
of God."

The
ministry is looking for ways to meet the increasing demand. Click here for more details.

USA (MNN) -- American Family Radio and Gospel for Asia team up to help the Dalits of India

USA (MNN) — The Supreme Court of India has postponed hearings on demands made by Dalit Christians and Muslims for full constitutional rights after the central government again failed to officially respond. The government claims it still has not received a report from the National Commission for Scheduled Castes.

While these oppressed people continue to wait, two Christian ministries are joining forces in an effort to help the lowest and poorest caste of people in India. Gospel for Asia (GFA) and American Family Radio (AFR) recently kicked off an initiative that allows people to provide items for the poorest of the poor in India, reports OneNewsNow.com.

In that country, people known as the Dalits — or untouchables — are considered subhuman by many. The shunned group has a population of more than 300 million.

The Christmas campaign initiated by the two ministries will allow donors to reach out to this group by purchasing practical gifts for families such as chickens, sewing machines, and water buffaloes.

GFA's Chris Brewer says the initiative can have an eternal impact. "There's such abject poverty in that country, hundreds of millions of people are subject to that poverty," he explained. "So the opportunity that we have to get involved in their lives through this program we're going to be doing is a tremendous open door to share the gospel and make a difference, not only in their lives now, but to make a difference for eternity."

GFA has more than 16,000 native missionaries working throughout Asia.
