Egypt (MNN) -- Gospel workers who cannot attend seminary in Cairo study with Program for Theological Education by Extension.

Egypt (MNN) — Of all the Majority-Arab countries in the Middle East, Egypt has the largest Christian population. More about that here. There are many well-established churches and parachurch ministries in Egypt, but seminaries are more difficult to find.

“PTEE [is] needed because there [are] no seminaries in Upper Egypt and in the south. The seminaries are, most of them, in Cairo,” says Abraham*, a believer serving with the Program for Theological Education by Extension (PTEE).

PTEE offers accredited theological courses for Gospel workers in the Arab world. Learn more about PTEE’s work here. By studying online, believers can avoid unwanted attention, which often leads to persecution.

“We teach them how to do discipleship for the new believer, how to do a lot of work inside the church, and also about evangelism outside the church,” Abraham says.

“[When] leaders cannot go to Cairo to study in Bible school, the program [goes] to the church.”

“We have more than 150 students studying from Egypt. [In] places where leaders cannot go to Cairo to study in Bible school, the program [goes] to the church.”

Plus, the training can be multiplied. This allows every PTEE graduate to develop more Egyptian Christian leaders. “We train a pastor or a church leader and he gives training to other people in the village,” Abraham says.

Equipping believers remotely furthers their “attempts to reach unreached villages and unreached (people) groups in the south of Egypt,” he adds.

Find critical prayer needs here. “Pray for leaders who suffer from some difficulties, and also for the families which have no chance to go to school,” Abraham requests.

“We have a lot of people who [do] not know how to read [or] write, and we try to teach this [through] discipleship groups.”

International (MNN) -- Teens from opposite ends of the spectrum head for undisclosed destination to serve

International (MNN) — "Mystery is part of what makes the whole experience exciting," said Ruth Majawa, Christian Reformed World Relief Committee's service learning manager.

CRWRC's new Youth to Youth Exchange Program will bring together groups of teens–one from the third world and another from a developed nation. The only information participants learn about the trip destination is that it is "on the African continent."

Before the eight-week trip in July 2009, the teens will do distance learning for a year. They
commit to a year of orientation beginning July 2008 which focuses on preparing them for their encounter and responding appropriately to the issues of poverty and development that they will face. It will include basic language development, cultural awareness training, fund development to help cover the cost of the trip, and Biblical studies about poverty and development.

"The program will help teens on both continents better understand poverty and development," said Majawa. "They'll learn practical ways to respond to each other and their circumstances which can change the rest of their lives and the lives of the people around them."

For applications in English, Spanish, or Korean, or for more information about Y2Y, go here.
Registration ends April 30, 2008.

International (MNN)--Missionaries use technology to respond to spiritual mentoring needs.

International (MNN)–Pray for wisdom for Greater Europe Mission’s eDOT team and the Learning Alliance as they prepare distance-learning courses.

GEM developed CD-based Bible courses in partnership with Moody Bible Institute, Mission Aviation Fellowship’s Learning Technologies ministry, European Bible schools, and other ministry partners.

These courses are designed to be highly interactive with the course facilitator and thus provide opportunities for each student to be mentored in a very personal way.

The team is looking at translating their courses into French, Portuguese, Arabic, and Farsi for use in Europe, the former Soviet Union, and other regions.

One team also recently successfully installed its 19th eLearning Center in Ukraine. Installing eLearning Centers provides churches with creative means for reaching their community with the Gospel. It also provides computers and computer training materials to be used by churches for evangelism.

Pray that both the teams and the Centers will continue to impact their communities with the hope of Christ.
