Morocco (MNN) — Children are hearing the Christmas story for the first time.

Morocco (MNN) — In the mountains of Morocco, children recently received warm clothing from a *Christian ministry leader. But the real gift wasn’t something they could wear — it was the first glimmer of a story they had never heard.

FMI’s Patrick Anthony says this Christian leader has made several trips into various Muslim-majority communities still recovering from a devastating earthquake two years ago. On one recent visit, he distributed clothing to children in a remote village.

“They said they were doing this in the spirit of Christmas, that it’s because of really Christmas that they were giving these gifts to the kids,” Anthony says. “It was fascinating because the kids didn’t know what Christmas is.”

The local families in these villages are Muslim “by ritual.” However, they are unfamiliar with Islamic teachings, much less the Christian message of the Gospel.

The ministry leader told them, “God commands us to love all people. It doesn’t matter where we come from. He wants all to receive salvation.”

When he shared the Christmas message of Jesus with kids and their families, they asked him to come back.

Anthony says, “They want to know more about this Jesus. The children asked him, ‘Well, who is this Messiah? Is he Santa Claus?’

“He explained a little bit. But he also has to be careful, especially on his first visit, because there are spies for security forces and things. That’s common in Morocco.”

Even so, interest is growing — and so is opportunity. Trust is forming. Conversations are beginning. The ministry leader hopes to return soon, continuing both aid distribution and deeper discussions about who Jesus is.

Anthony urges prayer “for the villagers, people who have never really heard about Jesus. They know nothing about Christmas. Pray for their eyes and ears to be open to the Gospel.”

You can also bless FMI’s ministry with tangible support. “Morocco is one of our partner countries,” Anthony adds. “So funds can be given for Morocco to cover tangible resources, and we can help those ministry leaders purchase some of those relief needs.”

Pray for boldness, protection, and wisdom as ministry leaders reenter these communities. Ask God to use simple Christmas gifts to spark eternal transformation.

Brian Dennett with AMG International says this has happened in the context of a brutal civil war that has been raging for almost four years, with 82,000 people being killed by this government, and nearly three and a half million people displaced.

Meanwhile, many in Myanmar are still recovering from the devastating earthquake that hit the country this March.

After the earthquake, AMG launched a relief effort that has reached 36,000 people since March.

Dennett says the 6,000 families that AMG has helped heard a clear gospel presentation.

“We’ve been able to build around 50 permanent homes. 227 families are in temporary shelters, and we’re planning 40 more homes this quarter. We’ve fed thousands, provided water and sanitation to thousands more, drilled wells, provided generators, solar panels,” Dennett says.

Throughout this crisis, churches have also touched lives in Myanmar.

“Ten churches were rebuilt and repaired, and also used as sites to distribute all of these much-needed services to those who were affected. That’s serving both believers, our brothers and sisters, and also just our neighbors there. So, it’s been beautiful to see the church come together, with our faithful partners here and the church locally in Myanmar, to become centers of hope, where people are helped, and [are] also finding the hope of Christ,” Dennett says.

Working to create long-term solutions for clean water, housing, and other necessities, AMG and the locals need prayer. Please pray for our brothers and sisters and the needs of the church network in Myanmar. Pray for locals’ safety and the safety of those who are serving despite dangers.

“As we shift from more emergency relief to getting things rebuilt and supporting the community there, [pray] through all of this, that Christ’s love would be made known and that the church would be strengthened,” Dennett says. “What the enemy means for destruction, God is using to build faith and even resilience among His people there, and we’re seeing that over and over again.”

Please pray for the end of this ongoing violence in Myanmar. Pray that God will continue to take what the enemy meant for evil and use it to reveal Himself to His children, who desperately need to meet Him.

To partner with AMG, go to amginternational.org to support their work in Myanmar and in other places around the world, serving and spreading the good news of the gospel.

Nepal (MNN) – With a new constitution, political infighting, and an economy rocked by a recently ended blockade of the country’s most-used boarder crossing, Nepal faces an uphill battle to rebuild after the 2015 earthquake.

want their homes back. Mission Aviation Fellowship (MAF) and the helicopter contractors they use have delivered tons of material to villages in remote, but not always distant, locations.

One village was only about a mile and a half from a paved highway, said MAF program manager for Nepal, Stan Unruh. The British Aid program Light Rotary Support Project (LRSP) worked with MAF to help.

“We flew hundreds of thousands of kilos of freight up one particular valley that was an eight or nine-minute flight. That was a two-day trek up there with a mule train. There’s no road up there,” Unruh said.

A village seven hours walk from the road, had its water supply severed during last year’s earthquake.

“It dried up their water supply and this aid agency we are working with, asked us to fly in this two-and-a-half inch water pipe. We flew this water pipe in over two hours, just flying a helicopter over the valley, about a two-minute flight one way. If they had had to carry it in on foot, they would have had to cut the water pipe into manageable sections and carried it seven hours to their village,” he said. “It would have taken them weeks to get all the water pipe to their village.”

While there are still hundreds of families living in temporary shelters, MAF’s partners are temporarily without the funding to continue helicopter support.

However, Unruh is working on a five-year plan that, if approved by the Nepali government, will allow for helicopter use in the remote western Nepal.

“There are a number of projects we’d like to work with the government on,” he said. “In the far west region of Nepal, the transportation options are limited. Mostly there are very bad roads to a few communities and then it is air transport to the rest. Development organizations have been pleading with MAF to see if we can get government approval to assist with transportation in the western region of Nepal.”

Please consider supporting MAF in their ministry.

Unruh would also appreciate prayers for those who are still trying to rebuild after the 2015 earthquake in Nepal; and for the agencies working to help them.

Nepal (MNN/NTM) — One month after the devastating 7.8 magnitude earthquake that hit Nepal, the government and the United Nations have renewed a global call for food aid and shelter for those left homeless.

As aftershocks continue to be felt, the survivors are living in make-shift tents cities, and there are fears these will not survive the onslaught of monsoon season next month. Additionally, there are concerns that more rains will cause landslides and increase the threat of disease. In short, life is a struggle for those who survived Nepal’s earthquake.

Thousands of mission organizations scrambled to aid partners on the ground once word trickled out about the scope of the destruction in the rural areas. New Tribes Mission shared a missive from the pastor of Grace Church and Ministries in Kathmandu about a week after the quake. In that e-mail, the pastor said, “We are suffering and still living in tents. All our church members are also living in tents. Yes, we are suffering different ways from earthquakes in Nepal.”

He’s also leading by example. Moments before the April quake, he preached a message on gratitude. He noted in that same message, “Now here we were, thanking Jesus for His protection” in the midst of the quake.

In the wake of the disaster, this pastor and his wife have taken in orphans who needed shelter. “We do not know how to provide food for them. Markets also not open and also a few shop open, but it is expensive now.”

Following his plea for help, NTM moved to respond. Two NTM delegates will be in Nepal June 1-15 in order to meet with pastors and other leaders. NTM is also raising funds to partner through the local church and meet needs. The current goal is $100,000, with just over $5,000 raised.

Why? It’s part of what they do: New Tribes Mission helps local churches train, coordinate, and send missionaries to share the story of God with people who’ve never heard it before. By helping the local church meet needs, they enable the Christians on the ground to live out “a cup of cold water in Jesus’ name” during crisis.
