Africa (MNN) — A deeper conviction and calling to gospel mission is stirring in Africa, and an upcoming conference intends to press further into it.

Africa (MNN) — A deeper conviction and calling to gospel mission is stirring in Africa. According to data from 2020, this is the continent with the most Christians in the world.

“They say the blood of the martyrs [has] so fertilized the soil of Africa that everywhere you plant the gospel, it germinates,” says Ray Mensah with OneWay Africa.

With that missionary history of sacrifice comes responsibility.

“The Bible says to him that much is given, much is expected or required. So now that Africa has the largest number of Christians, Africa has to play a significant role in world evangelization,” Mensah says.

“Africa cannot continue to be a mission field. Africa has to be a mission force. We believe we are [a] mission force but want to be [a] full-scale mission force, sending praying, supporting in every area.”

That’s why Mensah and other African leaders are planning the Africa Missions Conference September 23-27, 2025 in Nairobi, Kenya.

(Photo courtesy of Annie Spratt via Unsplash)

“It will be a place for networking, for partnerships, for new movements to rise up,” he says, adding, “We’re hoping that some of the denominational heads in Africa will come and churches that are not missionary, and they will catch the fire for missions.”

The conference carries an open invitation for you to come in person. Mensah calls for anyone around the world interested in missions to attend — whether field workers, leaders, intercessors, trainers or [those] carrying other roles.

“I challenge all those with passion for missions to stand with us globally. Especially also if someone is listening and you are African in the diaspora… we are calling you, come!” Mensah says, sharing that many nationalities will be represented. “Be part of the mission movement. God is doing wonderful things in Africa, and we invite you, come back home.”

Jesus Film Riders (Image courtesy of OneWay Africa)

The conference committee is also praying that the gathering will lead to national missions associations being launched in every sub-Saharan country. These have already begun in Nigeria, Ghana, Cameroon, Kenya and Malawi in the past decade or so.

“We have realized that mission movements, or national mission associations, help to push or propel missions in the country to reach the unreached,” Mensah says, adding, “Once those movements are formed, it will be a turning point in missions in Africa.”

Mensah sees [that] God is raising every part of His Church to be active. Learn more about the conference and register here.

“I believe the Africa Missions Conference will be that part of the global Church in action, and Africa taking its place and playing its role, together with North America, Europe, Asia, Latin America, Oceania, together for the Great Commission to take the gospel to the ends of the earth,” he says. “Amen!”

Ghana (MNN) — Ghana plays a key role in spreading the gospel in Africa, but more believers need to be mobilized to act.

Ghana (MNN) — On January 7, Ghana inaugurated its new president, John Mahama. The leading candidate who ran against him was then vice-president Mahamudu Bawumia, who is a Muslim.

“It made [the election] very unique, because the party in power was trying to push for Ghana’s first Muslim president,” Ray Mensah with OneWay Ministries notes.

A portrait of the President of the Republic of Ghana (Photo courtesy of Wikimedia Commons, CC0, https://commons.wikimedia.org/w/index.php?curid=157795094)

Mahama, a Christian, gained a decisive victory — 56.5% of the votes compared to 41% for Bawumia. Yet the election points to a growing influence of Islam in Ghana.

Mensah explains that like many parts of Africa, Ghana has a Christian south and a Muslim north. Missionaries entered the country from the southern coast, while Islam came down from the north.

Yet even as mosques are spreading in its towns and villages, Ghana is a majority Christian nation (71 percent according to a 2021 census). It plays a key role in spreading the gospel in Africa, but more believers need to be mobilized to do so.

That’s why Mensah and other leaders in the Ghana Evangelical Missions Association (GEMA) are working to rally local churches. “Vision 2040” as they call it has a goal of sending 30,000 missionaries from Ghana across Africa before 2040. They also seek to raise tens of thousands of churches to pray for and send out missionaries. Mensah says they came to that vision through “a process of praying and fasting and brainstorming.”

To him, it’s a matter of stewardship. “Just like we receive many missionaries, we should also give many missionaries to the nations to see people come to Christ all over the world,” he says.

“To him that much is given, much is expected. I believe the Lord is expecting much for Africa, and Africa has to arise. The Church in Ghana has to arise, the Church in Africa as well. We have no other option. We have to be the Great Commission. We have to contribute significantly to global missions and world evangelization, for such a time like this.”

Ghanaian Christian leaders have mentored Christians in Botswana, Zambia, Zimbabwe and other countries toward starting their own national missions movements. They’re also involved within Ghana. Mensah is the director of OneWay Africa, which supports boots-on-the-grounds missions outreaches across Ghana and raises up Christians for missions, and more.

How you can pray

Jesus Film Riders (Image courtesy of OneWay Africa)

Pray for peace. Ghana is still a place where Christians and Muslims largely live without violence. But not all of its neighbors can say the same.

“We see the insurgency, the insecurity in our neighboring countries, in Burkina Faso, in Mali, in Niger, Chad and in our sub-region, and we just pray God’s grace. We pray for divine intervention. We pray that God will have mercy on Ghana and protect us from all the insecurity,” Mensah says.

Pray for more people to come to faith in Christ. “We pray that God will reveal Himself to our [Muslim] brothers. They are our brothers, and God loves them. We love them. We pray that God would hear us and empower the church to be able to reach out.”

Pray for the church in Ghana to be strong in discipleship. Pray that those who know Christ will see their faith impact every area of their life.

Then, consider partnering in the work. “We also invite people to partner with us in different ways — in prayer, logistics, finances, teams, short-term teams. Ghana is open to short-term teams,” Mensah says. “We open our arms [and] say, come! Let’s share the gospel together. It will change their lives. Let’s do the work together. There’s so much work. The harvest is [plentiful] but the workers are few.”

Ghana (MNN) -- Mission Cry is encouraging believers and reaching non-believers with Scripture!

Ghana (MNN) — How hard would it be to share the Gospel with someone when you don’t have any Bible whatsoever? Scripture memorization helps, but nothing replaces studying and referencing all of God’s Word!

Mission Cry ships containers filled with good-quality, used Bibles and Christian books to countries like Ghana where believers desperately need copies of Scripture in their homes.

Rev. Jason Woolford, President of Mission Cry, says, “Ghana is very Christianized…. But a majority of those people are attending a church where the pastor doesn’t even own a Bible.”

Ghanaians are hungry for copies of the Word. Even though the Christian literature distributed by Mission Cry is in English, the official language of Ghana is English so most of the population can speak and read it.

The Bibles and Christian books are also reaching those in Ghana who don’t know Jesus.

Although Ghanaians are around 70% Christian, another 20% are Muslim and represent a key mission field.

Woolford says, “It seems like these last two shipments have seemed to make their way and give us favor in some of those northern parts of Ghana. In Akweteyman where there’s a large population of Muslims, we’ve had favor going in and distributing the Word of God in these areas and seeing people open to the Gospel, the one true and only Bible, the Holy Bible. So we’re excited about that.”

Mission Cry works with a local missionary in Ghana to distribute Scripture and Christian literature. “We’ve been distributing now to the tune of over $10 million in donated Bibles and Christian books just through him in that area [of Akweteyman] over the last 14 years.”

You can donate Christian books and Bibles to Mission Cry and have an eternal impact in Ghana!

“We’re taking ground back and reaching Muslims,” says Woolford. “So first, pray for those people that give their life and turn from Islam and come to Christianity.”

Pray also for protection over Mission Cry and their ministry partners as they reach into challenging or even hostile areas with the Gospel. Thank the Lord for Ghanaian believers’ desire for the Word!

Join OneWay Africa in praying for God to raise up more missionary riders plus the support they need for this critical outreach in Ghana.
Ghana (MNN) — ECM is encouraging young adults and children in single-parent homes.

Ghana (MNN) — The average global age of marriage for women is 24, and for men, it’s 27. But in Ghana, many men and women are waiting into their 30s and even 40s to exchange wedding vows.

One significant reason for marriage delays in Ghana is financial barriers. Danny Rogers and his wife Kara Rogers recently went on a Teachers For Teachers missions trip to Ghana with Every Child Ministries.

Danny says as they got to know teachers and young adults in Ghana, “They were super surprised that our children in their 20s were married. In order to get jobs, in order to get a wife or to get married, it just costs a ton of money and you have to bribe lots of people. They don’t feel, I think, a lot of hope that they can get ahead.”

Teachers For Teachers training in Ghana.
ECM supports Haven of Hope Academy in Ghana, sponsors children, and holistically supports families with their Family Empowerment program — all in the name of Christ.

Ministry workers see the impact delayed marriage has on Ghanaian society.

“Some of those systems cause a lot of children to be born out of wedlock [and] a lot of single moms, so that’s a difficult thing for Christian moms,” says Danny. Also, “For Christian men to stay pure and to wait until they’re in their 40s to get married was a difficult thing that they expressed.”

ECM is making a Gospel difference in Ghanaian families. By offering tangible support through their programs, ministry workers introduce children and young adults to Jesus Christ. Christians can receive guidance through Scripture and the Holy Spirit, and seek God’s wisdom when it comes to relationships and marriage.

Your support makes a difference too! Learn more at ECM’s website here.

Danny asks, “Pray for young believers who are seeing that things should be different to have courage, wisdom, and insight on how to get ahead, how to change things.”

Ghana (MNN) — Teachers For Teachers missions trips are bringing hope and encouragement.

Ghana (MNN) — Ghana has the world’s lowest student proficiency in math and science. Ghana’s Ministry of Education reports nearly 45% of primary school teachers and 30% of secondary school teachers are untrained.

But without these teachers – trained, untrained, or under-trained – education access for kids in Ghana would be even worse.

Every Child Ministries sends Teachers For Teachers missions teams from the US to support Christian educators in Ghana.

Teachers For Teachers training in Ghana.
Danny Rogers, a teacher on a recent Teachers For Teachers trip explains, “We were brought into run a couple of days of teacher training, teach them how to be more effective in their in their practices. Help them to learn maybe to deal with students with trauma.”

Danny’s wife, Kara Rogers, also went on the trip. She works in a hospital and she helped run a medical clinic. Kara says, “About 100 people did show up and…overall it was just really well received by the community. So they really considered it a success! A lot of connections were made in order to have future clinics.”

At the heart of ECM’s Teachers For Teachers trips is the Gospel. The teachers both on the team and in Ghana spiritually encourage one another and pray together for the children they serve.

You can join a Teachers For Teachers trip with ECM or sponsor a child in Ghana!

Danny says, “For $37 a month, you can sponsor a child to go to school and to get their needs taken care of.”

Click here to sponsor a child with ECM!

Contact ECM here to ask about future Teachers For Teachers trips.

Teachers For Teachers training in Ghana. (Photo courtesy of Every Child Ministries)

Some kids who’ve been sponsored through ECM grew up and actually came back to serve at the ministry’s Haven of Hope Academy. Danny and Kara got to meet some of them — an experience made even more special by the fact that the couple also sponsors a child with ECM.

Danny says, “They all just spoke so much about how this ministry had changed and and greatly affected their lives and how much they wanted to give back.”

Pray for Christian teachers in Ghana to point kids’ hearts and minds to Jesus Christ.

Uganda (MNN) — After aging out of sponsorship programs, many teens have no support.

Uganda (MNN) — In Ghana and Uganda, Every Child Ministries noticed a problem. Kids moving through their sponsorship programs lost support after becoming teens.

Mark Luckey says, “You start to realize that in places like Ghana, practically 60 percent of the population is under 25. And Uganda, it’s even higher, as about 70 percent of the population is under 25. Between 15 to 25 percent of the population is teens whose needs are unmet. And many times, these kids are living in poverty.”

“You can have percentages like 30 or 40 percent of this age group living in poverty.”

That’s why ECM started the Next Step Program. It helps kids move from their sponsorships to independence.

How it works

ECM staff meets with the kids to determine what they want to do next. Luckey says, “We had one who wanted to be a teacher, for example. So we helped her to go to the teacher training college. She was then able to complete the teacher training school, get a job as a teacher, and is now working to support herself and her family.”

Other kids went into auto mechanics and welding. Those who want to get more schooling have access to scholarships.

This program started six years ago, but Mark says it has taken off in the last 2 years. “We’ve now reached a point where we can hold workshops and seminars for youth to receive support, encouragement, and training. There are very few programs offering them things like that. They’re certainly not getting it through their churches or communities.”

Pray the Next Step Program will help many teens across Ghana and Uganda. Ask God to strengthen them and work powerfully in their lives.

Africa (MNN) — When missionaries must leave, Scripture booklets stay to continue the work.

Africa (MNN) — Traveling from village to village, Christian missionaries across Africa are sharing the love of Jesus with an essential tool.

When these traveling evangelists depart, they don’t leave the new believers and the “Gospel curious” empty-handed. Scripture booklets from World Missionary Press are distributed to stay and keep touching hearts and lives.

World Missionary Press is the literature supplier for a ministry partner in several African countries for Gospel outreach. Believers in connection with the ministry visit villages in Ghana, Nigeria, Cameroon, and several other African countries, equipped to share God’s Word in these well-organized Scripture booklets.

(Photo courtesy of World Missionary Press)

Helen Williams with World Missionary Press says of their ministry partner, “This ministry has a lot of new directors…. These young men are alive, enthused, eager, aware, and bright. They are just ready to go!”

Williams recently spoke with one ministry director from the Democratic Republic of the Congo (DRC).

“Because of the literature, he can send his people out for days and days and days. They can go to a village and then they can leave literature. Then they can go to the next village and leave literature…. Then on their way back or at another time, [they] trace back through that and see the work that the literature has done in hearts,” Williams says.

“The work is still being done within the village through the literature even though the evangelist or the team member cannot stay in that village. If they stay in that village then they can’t get to the next ones. But the literature stays, and the literature does the work. The Holy Spirit does the work through the Word. He said, ‘We’re reaching into rural areas that we couldn’t reach before.’”

These traveling evangelists can always use more Scripture booklets, and World Missionary Press keeps them supplied.

“The booklets are changing lives! He has testimonies about witch doctors coming to Christ from The Way to God, and a woman who received the Who Am I booklet and how it changed her life.”

(Photo courtesy of World Missionary Press)

The literature from World Missionary Press is also useful in areas where Christian persecution is severe and sharing the Gospel can be dangerous. Distributing a small Scripture booklet can sometimes be easier and draw less attention than hosting a gathering to preach.

You can learn more about World Missionary Press and their Scripture booklets here.

“For those [who] support World Missionary Press either through prayer or through finances or volunteering, your work is not in vain,” Williams says. “The Lord is working in Africa, and He is using His Word. We could not do what we do without those that support us. We are just part of the chain, but they are so grateful, and so are we.”

Pray for the believers who are reaching remote and isolated areas of Africa with Scripture booklets — that their work would bear fruit, and that millions of people would have relationships with Jesus Christ.

Uganda (MNN) —The ministry began in 1985 in the DRC.

Uganda (MNN) — Every Child Ministries Serves families and children in Uganda, Ghana, and the Democratic Republic of Congo. The ministry began in 1985 in the DRC.

Mark Luckey talks a little bit about the ministry. “We are involved with helping kids in impoverished African communities to rise up and come through that. We also help kids with albinism or other conditions that cause them to be discriminated against. Perhaps they have medical conditions, or they’re disabled.”

“We work with all of the things that put kids on the edges of society.”

Luckey says they want to transform the lives of children so the children can, in turn, change their communities.

Family Empowerment Program

But the ministry wants to support whole families, not just one child. That led to the Family Empowerment Program. They started in Uganda, helping parents provide food and education for all their kids. It’s a two-year program. In a year, the current families will graduate and the ministry will take on ten new families. Luckey hopes to see the project grow in the future.

Many of these families can now save money and start businesses. Luckey says, “I think it was Martin Luther King who said, ‘I don’t want just to be the Good Samaritan. I want to make the Jericho road safe for everyone.’ Over the years, ECM has functioned as that good Samaritan. We spent years picking up the broken and the beaten along the road, helping them to survive, and so on.”

There’s always a need for that kind of ministry, Luckey says. “But there also is a time when you say, ‘What would happen if we fix the road, paved it, and put in lights and that security?’”

Learn more about the program or donate here. And pray many people would see Jesus’ love through this work.

Ghana (MNN) — Their motto: "I ride for the glory of God."

Ghana (MNN) — Five young men in Ghana spend their days riding motorbikes across the country on an important mission. Each of them carries a projection kit to show the JESUS Film in different villages, some of them completely unreached with the Gospel!

They are called the Jesus Film Riders.

Jesus Film Riders (Image courtesy of OneWay Africa)

Reagan Opoku Agyeman, one of the Jesus Film Riders says, “Jesus Christ has given us the commandment that we should all go into the world (Matthew 20:18-20). So that’s why I do this!”

All of these young men are college graduates. But instead of starting their careers in the marketplace, they are devoted to sharing Christ through the JESUS Film, produced by Jesus Film Project.

It’s not easy. They must ride across rugged terrain — often for hours — to reach remote and isolated villages. Each Jesus Film Rider must be willing to go anywhere, sleep anywhere, and eat anything.

Another Jesus Film Rider, Lord Cyrus Nyamenlewoke says, “I’ve been inspired by St. Francis of Assisi spreading the Gospel to places that were dangerous to his life. And so it inspires me to know that I can also do something for God and my life.”

The initiative is part of OneWay Africa’s Jesus Film Campaign. The ministry recently released a video featuring the Jesus Film Riders.

Jesus Film Rider (Image courtesy of OneWay Africa)

With the support of OneWay, these young men were equipped with new jackets, helmets, gloves, and motorbikes. Their motto: “I ride for the glory of God.”

Before they can show the JESUS Film in a new village, a visiting Jesus Film Rider has to establish relationships in the village. Sometimes they are able to provide water filtration units to meet practical needs and open relational doors.

Once they have built trust and get permission from a “man of peace” in the village, the Jesus Film Rider is finally able to share the JESUS Film.

OneWay Africa Field Director, Mawunyo Kuuku Win-Tamakloe says, “They can’t believe that the Jesus they’ve heard of can speak their language. It’s always heartwarming when they find out that Jesus can speak their language.”

Each film showing ends with a time of prayer and an invitation to accept Jesus Christ as Lord and Savior.

Jesus Film Rider with village children. (Image courtesy of OneWay Africa)

Since OneWay’s Jesus Film Campaign began in 2016, over 225,000 unreached villagers have seen the JESUS Film. And 28,226 have committed their lives to Christ!

However, the ministry doesn’t stop there. After showing the JESUS Film, the rider will continue discipleship in the village. This looks like small group discipleship meetings using tools such as the Bible Plus audio players. Eventually, the small group grows and often establishes a new church.

Over several months, the Jesus Film Rider continues to support the village and trains new believers to disciple others. Then he moves on to the next village that needs the Gospel.

Ray Mensah, the executive director of OneWay Africa says, “It takes a whole team of people to put one Jesus Film Rider on the mission field. It takes the work of planners, facilitators, prayer supporters, and financial supporters among other people to get them on the field to reach people with the Gospel, to proclaim the Gospel of Jesus Christ, and to make disciples.

“If you are led by the Spirit to join the team, we welcome you, whether you pray, give, or go. Come join us! Let’s send these gallant young men onto the mission field to win precious souls and the unreached multitudes for Christ.”
