USA (MNN) -- Here's Life Inner City need your help to help more homeless

USA (MNN) — The poor economy in the U.S. is forcing groups like Here's Life Inner City to ask for help.

With help from people like you, Here's Life was able to hand out hundreds of Homeless Care Kits to people in need.

However, with the unusually cold weather and the poor economy, more help is needed. There are even more people on the streets who have nothing. They're not looking for a handout. They just need a little help.

Here's Life Inner City is asking you to help supply even more of these Homeless Care Kits. The kits include winter clothing, a blanket, health items and more importantly, God's Word. Your gift of $33 not only provides for a homeless person's needs physically, but spiritually as well.

According to ministry leaders, in many situations God uses kindness to soften the hearts of those in need. Perhaps your $33 gift will be the tool God uses to bring someone to Himself.

USA (MNN) -- College students minister sacrificially to the inner city poor

USA (MNN) — This summer, more than 100
college students are giving up weeks of their summers to minister to the poor
in eight American cities, carrying on Here's Life Inner City's 26-year tradition of
"Summer in the City."

Each student will spend one to eight weeks between May and
August ministering in jails, rehab centers, food pantries, tutoring,
door-to-door ministry, and outreach events. The students not only give up the money they could make by working, they
cover the expenses for their trips to Chicago, Denver, Detroit, Los Angeles, Milwaukee,
Minneapolis/St. Paul, New York, and Seattle.

"We send eager college students into the inner city for
close-range, heart-to-heart, hands-on ministry," said Ted Gandy, national
director of Here's Life Inner City. "These dedicated students positively impact the lives of inner-city kids
and families, not just for the summer, but for a lifetime."

Many students use simple beaded bracelets as evangelistic
tools. The children watch as the
bracelets are made and hear the story of what each bead represents. The yellow bead stands for the light of God's
love, the blue bead for the sadness of sin, the red for the blood of Jesus, the
clear bead for the cleansing of our sins, and the green for growing in
Christ.

"Everyone I met during the summer outreach thanked me,
saying I could never know the impact made and the lives touched," said University of Virginia
student Emily Woodley, who participated last year in Summer in the City in Seattle. "But they will never know the impression they
left on my heart."

Often, Summer in the City participants go on to serve in
full-time urban ministry. Autumn Shadis,
a student at University Wisconsin-Madison, served in Los Angeles with Summer in the City. She's now interning at a church in Madison and working on a
Master's degree in Global Urban Ministry.

Virginia Tech student Amanda Giobbi joined Here's Life for a spring
break missions trip and interned with them after graduating from college. Today, she lives in Washington D.C.
and works as a full-time mentor to seven girls.

On her first urban missions experience, Amanda said, "I was just
brokenhearted by the poverty. I was out of my comfort zone – but somehow I also
felt at home. I felt like I had found my niche." She now has the privilege of witnessing
amazing transformation in the lives of "her girls."

USA (MNN) -- Biblical career help is successful for at-risk groups

USA (MNN) — If getting a job isn't difficult for those in at-risk groups, maintaining it may be.

That's why Here's Life Inner City is helping people address the problems and difficulties related to career development. Created in a Harlem homeless shelter, Holistic Hardware focuses on ten key areas including responsibility, self-esteem, planning and work.

The recently enhanced video course offers a wide range of experiences through the CD's: music, drama, Biblically-based teaching, and testimonies. The program has already proven successful in prisons, juvenile homes, rehab centers and court-mandated anger management classes.

The program is designed to help those at risk to address barriers and find solutions to their career development. It also includes helping them develop job searching strategies and marketing skills that will help them obtain meaningful jobs.

In the enhanced version available through WorkNet, Here's Life Inner City is able to offer the message that no one is unemployable, which is also the title of a book by the president of WorkNet.

In places where it is appropriate, Christians are facilitating the program. In these cases, attendees are able to get spiritual direction and encouragement along with
practical skills.

The disc set is available for $89.95. This includes 10 lessons, a leader's guide, and student and leader worksheets.
