Haiti (MNN) — Do you ever get used to disasters? The importance of walking alongside people in hardship.

Haiti (MNN) — Starting February 24, heavy rain fell in the Cap-Haïtien region of Haiti, leading to severe flooding. As people scrambled to rebuild their lives, the ministry stepped in to walk alongside them.

“Do you ever get used to disasters?” asks Rosaline DeHart from For Haiti With Love, reflecting on recent events in Haiti.

Cap-Haïtien saw major flooding after days of relentless rain beginning February 24. “It’s just an intense rain that never stopped. It went on for a week, and the rain has no place to go,” says DeHart.

The flooding is made worse by limited infrastructure to manage the aftermath. “It’s leaving all the trash and mud behind because there’s not really a drainage system in Cap-Haitian,” she adds.

Flood in Haiti (Photo courtesy of FHWL)

While flooding is not unusual in Haiti, DeHart says people never truly get used to it. Recent disasters have shaken daily life in Cap-Haïtien and often people’s faith as well. That’s where practical ministry steps in.

“We had a food program for people who could come up to eat,” says DeHart.

And for those needing shelter, the ministry provided housing in the mountains, away from the flooding. “We fed them and gave them clean clothing — dry and clean — and took care of the kids also,” she adds.

In the midst of disaster, For Haiti With Love seeks to show people that God is with them in their suffering.

“We are God’s hands and feet, not just telling them the words, but showing it through action also,” says DeHart.

Pray for the people of Haiti, especially those affected by the flooding. Pray for continued opportunities to serve the community and for strength to do so.

International (MNN) — Practical ways to be helpful to people in war-torn zones.

International (MNN) — Many people around the world remain unreached — not for lack of effort. But in war zones, danger and limited access often make sharing the Good News nearly impossible. At the same time, the hardship of conflict can leave people searching for hope and meaning.

Janelle Stoops with A3 says the first step is to pray and ask God for a strategy for each specific region and its needs. Then, serve the people in front of them.

“We want to go in with a strategy that looks to, ‘How can we bless the people there?’ And oftentimes that might be coming in as an NGO worker or doing some sort of humanitarian aid,” she says.

Children playing in the old tank, Kabul (photo courtesy of M.A Sarwari via Unplash)

Alongside practical help, ministries also focus on healing the deep wounds left by war. The Gospel’s message of hope is often paired with trauma counseling, as trained believers help people process the horrors they have experienced.

“They [people] are able to find healing from trauma but also, more importantly, to find spiritual healing as they find their identity and their worth in Christ.”

Another key strategy is working through diaspora communities. People who have left their countries often maintain close ties with family and friends still living there.

“One way we can be engaging is by connecting with diaspora populations, knowing they will be reaching back into their homeland,” says Stoops.

While many war-torn regions remain difficult to access, believers can still play a vital role through prayer. Pray for God’s guidance for ministries like A3 and for Christ’s work in these regions through His Spirit.

A3 also seeks to equip believers to share the Gospel in places others cannot easily reach. Stoops says:

“We want to be part of raising up and training more believers, equipping them to take the Gospel to the unengaged points.”

Visit A3 to learn how their support Christian leaders around the world.

Haiti (MNN) — Cluny Market was the only source of livelihood for many workers in Cap-Haïtien.

Haiti (MNN) — A raging fire engulfed the Cap-Haïtien Cluny Market on January 24, tearing through the heart of a community already under strain.

What made the market fire worse was the lack of a proper fire service to minimize the damage. Families stood by helplessly as flames consumed their only means of survival.

Roseline DeHart with For Haiti With Love says, “For many families, that market was their only source of income. You know, the mother sold vegetables, rice — anything you can think of.” It helped put food on the table and pay for kids’ school.

Many had poured savings into buying goods to sell, and some are now debtors with no chance of paying it back.

“Some of them had borrowed the money from the bank to do the business that they had,” DeHart says.

In all, 30 storage units and hundreds of small shops were destroyed. In a place where people were already struggling, it’s been devastating.

One big question remains: “Nobody knows what started it,” says DeHart.

For Cap-Haïtien residents, this loss piles onto the many challenges Haiti already faces. But DeHart says their ministry’s plan goes beyond just emergency relief. “We want to help rebuild the market so families can regain stability and dignity again,” she explains.

Yet, the tragedy shook some people’s faith in the goodness of God. “They don’t want to hear about God. They don’t want to hear about Jesus,” says DeHart. “But we want to help them — by showing them the love of Jesus and walking with them on the path to recovery.”

The purpose is to show them that even in the midst of crisis, God is still with them.

Pray for peace in Cap-Haïtien and the restored faith of those who lost their only source of livelihood at the Cluny Market.

“With people partnering with us,” adds DeHart, “we can help the ladies rebuild their shops, sell again, and help their families.”

Ukraine (MNN) — "Some of the destruction that is happening Ukraine is far greater than anything they've experienced since the onset of the war," says Mock.

Ukraine (MNN) — In the last few days, Russia has carried out a series of destructive attacks on Ukraine. The Dnipropetrovsk region and neighboring Zaporizhzhia plunged into darkness, while the Kyiv and Lviv regions were heavily hit by drones and ballistic missiles.

Eric Mock with Slavic Gospel Association says: “Some of the destruction that is happening Ukraine is far greater than anything they’ve experienced since the onset of the war.”

Russia is pressing on the frontlines, where defenders are holding, while also terrorizing civilians. Winter weather is part of the strategy. “Electrical substations are being targeted. Heat generation facilities are being targeted. Civilian infrastructure is being targeted as a result,” says Mock.

Ukrainian couple reunites during war (photo courtesy of Dmitry Zvolskiy via Pexels)

With temperatures dropping to 5°F and below, people are searching for ways to stay warm. “This is when our bodies become weaker or more susceptible to catching viruses and getting sick, and so that is a certain reality,” he explains.

SGA is responding by equipping local churches with wood, coal, pellets, and generators. Some people come to churches for warmth and shelter, while others ask the church to come to them.

“The church begins to reach out to these homes to provide them wood, coal and other needs,” says Mock, adding that heat is not the final goal. Hope is.

Even with warmth, fear and the stress of war remain. This is where believers step in with news of lasting value. Mock says:

“The way to navigate through that [despair] is through the power of the Gospel, the hope that we have in Christ. We aren’t surrounded by unending darkness with no answer forward. We have the light of the Gospel to lead us forward.”

The Gospel helps churches shine in the darkness, and that’s the goal behind every effort. In fact, even in the middle of war, more churches are starting. “Where there’s aid centers, there are now churches,” he says.

Meanwhile, the frontlines are straining defenders. “They’re the ones that are suffering the most, and by God’s grace, they’re the ones that are most open to the truth of the Gospel,” adds Mock.

Pray that believers use their resources wisely and share the Gospel boldly. Visit Slavic Gospel Association to learn more about their work in Ukraine.

International (MNN) — What could it look like if we used airplanes as instruments of peace that could bring life to places?

International (MNN) — Even in the most desolate places and hardest circumstances, God knows each person and cares deeply. That’s the message Mission Aviation Fellowship has carried through its planes for 80 years — and counting.

MAF President David Holsten says their mission is about far more than transportation: “We like to say in our mission statement that we use airplanes to bring help, hope and healing, and we see that happening both spiritually and physically.”

This year marked MAF’s 80th anniversary. The ministry began with men and women who served during World War II, who had seen airplanes used as tools of destruction — and dreamed of something different.

“They had seen airplanes that were used as instruments of war — that brought death and chaos, and all the things that can happen during war time. And as they came out of the war as followers of Jesus, they thought, ‘Wow, what could it look like if we used airplanes as instruments of peace that could bring life and peace to places?’”

Now, 80 years later, Holsten says the airplane continues to be a tool God uses to protect people, reach isolated communities, and serve refugees.

“[It’s a tool] that can help bring protection for people, to fly them over places that where there’s conflict on the ground, or to bring supplies to people or to serve the needs of refugees,” he says.

2025 was a fruitful year. “Just from a statistical standpoint, our airplanes were able to serve people in about 12 different countries,” he adds. MAF also flew up to 50 thousand passengers.

But those flights often go into unstable places. “Places that we fly to, there could be war and unrest. And so it’s a miracle in and of itself, that after 80 years of doing this, we’re still able to do it,” he explains.

MAF delivered medical aid and Bibles and supported evacuations. But tragedy struck in Indonesia when a remote-area teacher was attacked and died during an air evacuation, leaving the team grieving. It also underscored why their Gospel work must continue. “Without the work of Jesus in His Spirit, in people’s lives, this is the sort of violence that can take place,” explains Holsten.

There were many hopeful moments too — like in the Democratic Republic of Congo, where pastors finally received paper Bibles. “Our airplane was able to bring in more Bibles that they could share between their different congregations and some clothing,” explains Holsten.

And that’s just one of examples of how God is using MAF flights to strengthen the Church.

Pray God will continue to provide people for the ministry, along with resources and permissions. To learn more and be inspired by their work, visit the Mission Aviation Fellowship website.

Sudan (MNN) — 2025 was especially hard for Sudanese Christians.

Sudan (MNN) — 2025 was an especially hard year for Sudanese — especially Christians. On top of war, they face persecution.

Rafat Samir, General Secretary of the Sudan Evangelical Alliance and an Open Doors spokesperson, says, “Even myself and many Christians have been detained and sent to court many times as enemies against the state.”

One recent case involves Dr. Yagoub Jibril Glademea, who was detained for his faith. On December 7, he went to the state Civil Registration office to obtain a national number for his niece. A security officer noticed the religious designation on his ID and detained him for interrogation. His family was denied access for three days before he was released. It’s a reality many Sudanese believers face — being treated as enemies because of their faith.

But why this label of “enemy”?

Photo courtesy of Faruk Tokluoglu via Pexels

“Both parties of the war do not like the church and do not want the Christian in the places they are ruling,” Samir explains.

Christians are often labeled traitors — seen as allies of the other side. They’re also frequently missed when humanitarian aid is distributed. Since the government chooses which NGOs can work, access for believers is often barred.

“They close the Christian schools and Christian hospitals. They kick the missionaries outside the country,” says Samir.

When Christians flee, they face anger from local communities. “Even in the safe areas where the Christians have been settled after this war, they face a lot of persecution because they are unwanted in those areas.”

On top of that, for many people the very idea of having a church is impossible. In many places, they aren’t allowed to build worship spaces or hold services, because local communities don’t want any churches in these new areas.

This year, dedicate your prayers for Sudanese people. Samir says, “I always believe in what Jesus said: This gates of hell will not conquer the church. This is His church, and He preserves it.”

Pray for detained Sudanese pastors. Pray also for the strength of believers to endure the trials they face.

To Syrian refugees, aid from a Christian organization may first seem to have ulterior motivations.
Japan (MNN) — Though Monday's earthquake was not as destructive as the quake in 2011, people fear a second wave may be coming.

Japan (MNN) — A powerful, 7.6-magnitude earthquake struck northeast Japan late Monday night, injuring at least 30 people. Although the quake was not massively destructive, people fear a second wave.

David Robison, a local missionary with Japan Evangelical Missions Society and a friend of A3, says, “Immediately after the earthquake, we started hearing the tsunami sirens going throughout the city.”

A warning system of sirens and public announcements alerted coastal residents to evacuate. The earthquake caused little damage, but it revived memories of the 2011 quake and tsunami, disasters that devastated the region and killed nearly 20,000 people.

“Every time something like this happens, it does reawaken a lot of trauma. People have been through a lot in the last tsunami, and there are people who lost houses, who lost family members, jobs,” says Robison.

Wave (Photo courtesy of Mikhail Nilov via Pexels)

That tragedy nevertheless opened doors to the gospel.

Though Japan’s Christian roots run deep, believers are few. “There are very few people who know anything about the Christian churches or what they do,” adds Robison.

But after the 2011 earthquake, life in the affected areas changed for many. International Christian missions partnered with local believers, and their practical aid — paired with biblical encouragement — brought real hope to communities desperate for help.

As a result, Robison’s home church, along with other missions agencies and denominations, recognized the need and began launching new church plants.

“There’s been, I believe, a new church plant in almost every city in Iwate prefecture that was hit by the tsunami,” he says.

Fourteen years later, Monday’s earthquake comes just weeks before Christmas. Robison says, “Our whole focus right now is to introduce people to the Prince of Peace and to offer the hope and peace they need,” underscoring how fitting Jesus’ title is for this fearful season.

Pray for safety from stronger earthquake waves and any tsunamis. “The big concern right now is that there will be another larger earthquake in the next week. So that’s what everybody’s worried about,” says Robison.

Pray for the Christmas outreach of Japanese believers and local missionaries amid the uncertainty of the weeks ahead.

If attacks happen, people will be internally displaced this year, too.

Camille Melki with Heart for Lebanon says that southern Lebanon has “a very damp winter, (with) a lot of rain. Most of those families live in tent settlements or in makeshift homes, where it is very moist, and water gets into the house.”

At high elevations in the Beqaa Valley, many refugees and locals live in cold areas that will receive significant snow.

Please pray that this winter ministry will show the compassionate heart of Jesus Christ. Pray that it will lead to simple conversations that can turn into gospel conversations and will reach people who do not yet know God.

Haiti (MNN) — Haitians in the capital’s outskirts and rural areas pray earnestly to leave home safely and return alive.

Haiti (MNN) — The gangs were partially pushed from Port-au-Prince, Haiti’s capital. However, their ruthless, indiscriminate brutality now falls on people outside the city.

Children beaten after a football match turned violent, a woman accused of witchcraft and murdered, a person killed while traveling from one village to another — these are just a few of the stories of Haitians suffering under gang violence.

Death or attack feel unpredictable in the country, leaving many anxious to survive.

Though gangs were partially pushed from Port-au-Prince, their violence has spread to the outskirts and rural areas. Roseline DeHart from For Haiti With Love said, “Lives are getting harder every day. Things are very hard right now in Haiti, and Haiti needs help from its neighbors.”

Since July, more than 1,200 people have been killed in gang attacks, self-defense retaliation, and army operations. Over 700 were wounded. On top of that, sexual abuse and kidnappings are widespread. Victims of the gangs are often chosen at random, including children.

DeHart added, “We need other countries to realize that Haiti needs help, to come and help Haiti.”

For Haiti With Love continue their work of Gospel in Haiti, helping those displaced, local communities, children, and more. They are also preparing a Christmas celebration for hundreds of kids with hot meals, toys, and the Gospel.

DeHart says, “We want to help as many as we can, but so many people have moved into the Cap-Haïtien area, and there are street kids everywhere. It’s become overwhelming, and we’re doing the best we can with what we have.”

Among their ministries is a free burn clinic. After patients are treated and reach for their wallets, staff tell them Jesus has already paid the cost. DeHart explained, “That’s when they break out crying and want to know who this Jesus is. And then we tell them about Jesus!”
