Zimbabwe (MNN) 一 Pastors in Zimbabwe received their first Bible trainings ever.

Zimbabwe (MNN) 一 Christian World Outreach recently led a series of three, four-day seminars for church leaders in Zimbabwe. The content focused on the Authority of Scripture and sermon planning.

Though these pastors have no biblical training, they are eager to answer the call of the Lord and learn more about serving their congregations.

Greg Yoder with Christian World Outreach says the trainings go back to the Bible, asking, “‘What does the Bible really say?’ and teaching them how to read the Bible and how to present it to the people that they are ministering to.”

Training changes depending on the needs of the groups of leaders that the trainers are working with, as pastors deal with different issues in different areas and churches.

“God has called these people into a ministry and called them as they become Christians.
“They don’t have a lot of resources to be able to get that training that we have available here, but they seek it,” Yoder says. “Anytime they hear about any kind of training, they’re willing to do whatever they can to get that training.”

As Zimbabwean pastors’ needs are met, they are excited and beg for training programs to come back.

“We try to go back to the same areas, (but) sometimes it’s not always available,” Yoder says. “Our time doesn’t always warrant that, but our goal is to keep discipling and keep in touch with those pastors anyway we can. One thing that we do is give them Bibles so they do have a Bible in their language, Shona.”

Please pray for workers to join CWO in the harvest and for continued opportunities for discipleship with these pastors.

Pray also that God will supply the needed resources and give safe travels so that people are able to lead these trainings. Pray that congregations will be blessed by the ministry.

International (MNN) -- Software builds a bridge between translation experts and local church groups.

International (MNN) — It’s no secret in the Bible translation world that Scripture in your heart language makes an incredible difference in how you understand the Bible. It’s also significant when people groups lead the translation work happening in their own heart language.

Thanks to the collaboration of multiple translation organizations, and to computer software developed by unfoldingWord, Church-Centric Bible Translation work is becoming increasingly possible all over the globe.

*Dane of unfoldingWord says, “What unfoldingWord has done is developed open license content to be able to just hand over and train on how to use it. Hand it over and train the local churches how to use this open license content so that they can do the Bible translation themselves.”

Translation tools

To protect the integrity of the translation work, unfoldingWord trains local groups how to use the software. They have a growing library of resources built on a long history of Bible translation.

“It’s called the Bible Aquifer,” Dane explains, “Think of this underground stream of all this open license, Bible translation content. And then local translators can use an app that’s called the Bible Well. It was developed by Biblio Nexus, and they can go down there and draw this information up and use it wherever they need it.”

Many organizations, including unfoldingWord, have uploaded the translation knowledge they have to offer.

While this enables the layperson to translate, Dane says they need traditional scholars to help develop the resources being offered. This is particularly true for unfoldingWord’s Book Packages.

“A Book Package contains pretty much everything somebody needs—a church group needs—to translate the Bible for themselves,” Dane explains.

Each Book Package covers one book of the Bible. It includes:

A literal translation built on the technical Greek or Hebrew

A simplified translation that gets the meaning across similar to a paraphrase style

A verse-by-verse translation guide

A lexicon to discover key words and definitions in the Bible

Short articles discussing difficult Bible translation issues

All of these tools in the Book Packages help people to translate the work. Then, they can backcheck it to the original Greek or Hebrew.

Impact on the ground

“I’m so excited about this because I was a pastor for 32 years. And seeing this happen for people just thrills me. Because our brothers and sisters around the world need this information— these tools. And it’s exciting to be able to provide them with these tools.”

The impact of these translation materials is incredible. Dane points to a training that recently took place in West Africa where a group of people were introduced to this for the first time.

He quotes a report from the field: ‘For us this was a revolution for the missionary work we do. […] The Bible Well has made our job much easier. Many people who don’t have a high level of deduction can now easily embark on translation work because you have simplified the entire task, making the Bible easy to understand. And we can attest to the accuracy of the content and the resources you have provided.’

United States (MNN) -- “OneVoice” podcast lets you hear directly from believers in tough places, like Afghanistan.

United States (MNN) — Podcasts are all the rage in the United States. Last year, 12 million new people became podcast listeners, and the time spent listening jumped 31-percent from two years ago.

MNN’s sister ministry, Prayercast, is joining the fray. “OneVoice will launch as an audio podcast on March 8th,” OneWay Ministries’ Director of Prayercast and MNN Chris Ruge says.

“OneVoice is a new product of our Prayercast ministry and is focused on trying to rally the Church around the world to pray for timely and relevant needs.”

MNN brings you current events through the lens of the Great Commission. In contrast, “the key distinctive with OneVoice is that it’s going to be more personal,” Ruge says.

“We will be hearing from a single person in each episode, briefly sharing what they’re seeing around them.”

The premiere episode of OneVoice focuses on Afghanistan and shows you how the headlines affect individuals. “[It talks] about an artist who is seeing the Taliban painting over all of the art around them,” Ruge says.

“That’s not something we’ll necessarily hear in a newscast. But it’s a personal point of view that most of us outside of Afghanistan don’t have access to.”

Next Tuesday, you can subscribe to OneVoice and pray alongside believers worldwide. “Anywhere people get their typical podcast feeds, they’ll be able to find us; just search for ‘OneVoice,’” Ruge says.

“The podcasts are going to be short and will be released weekly; just a few minutes to listen to somebody in Afghanistan, to hear in their own words what they’re seeing, and then to join them in prayer.”

Learn more about OneWay Ministries here. “OneWay Ministries is all about reaching the lost around the world,” Ruge says.

“Scripture shows us there’s nothing more powerful we can do to reach the lost around the world than to pray. All of the work we do in Mission Network News and Prayercast and with OneVoice is to bring people together in unique ways to pray for the lost.”

USA (MNN) -- “Peter Parker was an ordinary guy who’d been given extraordinary power. That’s us!”

USA (MNN) — 2022 marks the 60th anniversary of Spider-Man, and Marvel Comics is celebrating its most iconic hero with a new volume arriving in April.

(Wikimedia Commons)

Spider-Man first appeared on the big screen 20 years ago, and Ron Hutchcraft of Ron Hutchcraft Ministries says the film holds a lesson for believers. “There’s a great quote in that [2002] movie; to me, it is a challenge for all of us,” Hutchcraft says.

“Here’s what he said: ‘For me, to live an ordinary life is no longer an option.’”

The comics have been around for a while, but the Spider-Man storyline may be new to you. “For those who are not into spiders or spider-men, Peter Parker was just a geeky young man until he got bitten by a radioactive spider, and he got some powers that he realized were given to him so he can make a difference,” Hutchcraft says.

“The Spider-Man principle was, ‘with these powers given to me, I am responsible for making a difference with my life.’ Well, we have real resurrection power from the Lord Jesus Himself, our living hope, so an ordinary life is no longer an option [for us].”

Ron Hutchcraft Ministries motivates and equips believers to communicate Christ to the lost in their world. Take a look at their resources here, and ask the Lord how He wants you to respond to this story.

“This is a time for boldness because the orders of Jesus remained unchanged. [These orders] say all the world should have a chance at Jesus, including the people in your world,” Hutchcraft says.

“This is Mission Network News, where you hear what God is doing in mission and on mission all around the world. Well, let’s bring it down to you and to me – our personal mission network.”

Below, Hutchcraft lists four reasons why “ordinary” can no longer be the status quo for believers in 2022.

1. Because so many are so lost.

“The chaos and uncertainties of the past two years have exposed so much that’s broken,” Hutchcraft says. “Every night’s news reveals how far and how fast we’re running away from God.”

As described here, Ron Hutchcraft Ministries “is all about spiritual rescue.” Through digital and traditional media, RHM addresses felt needs that will lead people to the cross of Jesus Christ.

2. Because the enemy is holding nothing back.

No one knows when the Lord’s Second Coming will occur, but one thing is sure – Jesus Christ will return for His people, and Satan will face the consequences of his deception.

“In Revelation 12, it says, ‘Woe to the earth, for the devil has gone down to you; he is filled with fury.’ Why? Because he knows that his time is short,” Hutchcraft says.

“As followers of Christ, we have to be as aggressive and dedicated [to our mission] as the forces of darkness are to their agenda.”

3. Because much of God’s army is sleeping.

Just as the disciples fell asleep at a critical hour in Christ’s earthly ministry, today’s Church is sleeping through the warning signs.

“In Matthew 24:12 to 14, He (Jesus) said, ‘because of the increase of wickedness, the love of most – He’s talking about His people – will go cold.’ He said, most of My people are going to go cold: they’re going to be distracted; they’re going to be into things that don’t matter as much as rescuing people for eternity,” Hutchcraft says.

4. Because time is running out.

Considering the realities described above, and “with many of our brothers and sisters sleeping through the battle, what if we [chose] to say ‘This year, 2022, will be the year of my Lord’?” Hutchcraft asks.

“‘For me, to live an ordinary life is no longer an option.’ We are living in incredible times as the world starts to configure more and more like the kind of world Jesus said He would come back to.”

Int'l (MNN) -- Thought-provoking facts from Keys For Kids on the Great Commission

International (MNN) — The following article takes a bit of a departure from the normal format followed by MNN.

After interviewing Keys For Kids’ Executive Director, Greg Yoder, I had a bit of trouble starting this article. I keep getting stuck here: “There are 1.5 billion children in the world today who don’t know Jesus.”

(Photo courtesy of Keys For Kids)

That’s more than the current population of China right now. Then, he said, “If we viewed every one of these souls as someone who is literally dying, let’s say dying of hunger or because of the places in which they live, because they were under attack by ISIS, I think we would be more prone to be talking about Christ and working with some of these kids and making sure that they had the food that they needed and the medical needs met.”

Whoa. This 1.5 billion isn’t in one place…. They’re on the move, and “the 10/40 Window people say that 80 percent of kids today around the world are looking for spiritual truth. They’re already seeking it. They’re going to find some kind of ‘truth’. The question is: will they find the Truth? That’s what Keys For Kids Ministries wants to be. We want to be that place where kids can find the Truth that’s only found in Christ alone, through His Word.”

How do you get Truth into their 1.5 billion hands? It’s a huge job that’s too big for any one ministry to do alone, and too important to not to try to do together. For example, “Keys For Kids ministries last year was able to reach about 2.1 million kids and their families through the various resources we have, whether it be our online radio station at Keysforkids.net or through our online devotionals or our print devotionals.”

(Photo courtesy of Keys For Kids)

This year, after some careful planning, Keys For Kids ministries is poised to begin working with other ministries. “We also have opportunities through a new device that we’re calling the ‘Keys For Kids Storytellers’. They’re audio Bibles, [and] we’re not only going to put audio Bibles on, but also our Keys For Kids audio devotionals will be going on these Storyteller devices.”

In order to reach 1.5 billion kids, the content can’t be in only one language. Yoder assures, “We’re hoping to do Spanish, two versions of Mandarin, traditional. We also want to reach out in Greek, Macedonian, and Albanian, and we just began talking with an organization in Arabic about producing these — not only our devotionals in print, but also producing an audio version of Keys For Kids.”

Once these are in production, he says, “We have the possibility of reaching about 500 million children, if we’re able to reach everyone in all these different languages.” Who knows how God will grow this?

(Logo courtesy of Keys for Kids)

The idea of ‘pray, give, go’ sounds simplistic, but as you and I begin praying about 1.5 billion kids’ hearts and their need to be introduced to Christ, Yoder believes it’s going to begin creating urgency in our hearts. In turn, that translates into action. “Only God can make it happen by using His people. We’ve set up a minimal goal. We would like to see about 500 people come on as monthly prayer partners and donors.”

Finally, Titus 3:3-7 came to mind:

For we ourselves were once foolish, disobedient, led astray, slaves to various passions and pleasures, passing our days in malice and envy, hated by others and hating one another. 4 But when the goodness and loving kindness of God our Savior appeared, 5 he saved us, not because of works done by us in righteousness, but according to his own mercy, by the washing of regeneration and renewal of the Holy Spirit, 6 whom he poured out on us richly through Jesus Christ our Savior, 7 so that being justified by his grace we might become heirs according to the hope of eternal life.

The cause of Christ is worthy of our fullest efforts because the Gospel of Christ is man’s only hope. Those of us who are followers were shown the way…. Could we do any less for these precious kids?

Nepal (MNN) -- Through connections at MNN, Lindsay Steele is going to Nepal

Nepal (MNN) — At Mission Network News, our passion is telling stories to make you pray, give, or go. And sometimes, they make us do the same.

Lindsay Steele, former MNN writer.

Lindsay Steele has spent nearly the last two years working at Mission Network News as a student writer from Cornerstone University. Through her work, she connected with Operation Mobilization and now that she’s graduated, she is spending the summer in Nepal with OM.

“Mission Network News is a partner with Operation Mobilization…one of our interns, she mentioned another girl had gone on an Operation Mobilization internship to the Near East, and it was really cool sounding. So I contacted this girl…and she told me about what all she had done,” Steele explains.

The idea of really engulfing herself in another culture and learning from the people drew Steele in. She had always held a special interest in her heart for the Near and Middle Easts. It wasn’t long before she filled out the tedious paperwork, as is the case with any and all paperwork, to begin her journey.

Unfortunately, because of conflicting dates. Steele was unable to secure a position in the Middle East. It was, however, through this road bump Steele was introduced to Nepal and the great needs the country has.

“My coordinator, she sent me another list of where I could go as a photographer and as a journalist and among those was Nepal. You know, they had the earthquake last year and there’s been so much going on in the past year ever since. So I’ve been reporting on that…it really drew my attention.”

While in Nepal, Steele will photograph and write articles on OM’s work in the country. She’ll also have the chance to talk to locals and learn about them and their stories and how OM has impacted their lives. OM works in the country to provide supplies, resources, and to help local churches better serve their communities.

(Photo Courtesy Philippe Leroyer via Flickr)
Kathmandu, Nepal

However, Steele says the chances of having learned about this internship are very slim if she hadn’t worked at Mission Network News.

“I would never have even known about these ministries. Or probably even Nepal, you know. I would’ve heard about the earthquake, but that’s about it. It’s really a God thing and learning about these ministries has been incredible.”

Would you join us in praying for Steele as she encounters God in new ways and serves Him in Nepal? Pray for her protection, her growth, the impact she will have on the people she encounters, and for all Nepalis to come to know Christ. Maybe even through her.

Sometimes, interactions like this are simply a God thing. Safe travels, Lindsay.

USA (MNN) — When you’re a news anchor, you often think about what will be your last story. You wonder, “What will my last newscast sound like?”

I’ve always envisioned doing an investigative report on some profound topic like human trafficking, persecuted Christians, or an amazing move of the Holy Spirit in a city or nation. I never thought my last story would be about me. But, that’s what I’m writing about today. It seems self-serving, but I want to honor God for what He has allowed me to do here at Mission Network.

Greg interviews Luis Palau at Amsterdam 2000 in the Netherlands.

I started with Mission Network News on September 11, 1995. Since then, I’ve had the incredible privilege to be a part of communicating nearly 26,000 stories about God’s work around the world. Who gets to do that?

When I began in 1995, Cornerstone University had just acquired MNN from World Concern. Lee Geysbeek was the VP for Broadcasting, responsible for acquiring MNN. Peter Brooks was the voice. Lee hired me to be the director, even though I didn’t want to be. That’s a long story, but God moved me. He gave me a passion for mission news.

The MNN and WCSG news team 1997. (Greg Yoder, Becky Carlson, Joel Hill and Jenni Travasos)

Jenni Travasos was our first Cornerstone producer for MNN. Together, with God’s leading, we saw MNN grow from about 475 stations to more than 1,000 almost overnight. How? That same year, a guy by the name of Chris ‘Topher’ DeRosia came to me as a college student and said, “Do you know what a Web site is?” I said, “Yes, I’m very familiar with them.” He said, “Want one for MNN?” I said, “Yes, that’d be great.” “I build ’em,” said Topher. So, he did.

We started posting stories. Then, audio and stations around the world started airing MNN. Just after that, Jenni got married and moved away; we hired Ruth Kramer in 1997 to replace her, hired Topher to be our webmaster, and watched the Lord begin to use the internet to inform Christians about the needs around the world. Beth Gabriel, Rachel Kirsch, Bonnie Haveman, and Ashlee Vance were our first office assistants. It’s been amazing all of the people and students who have been a part of MNN.

Greg Yoder with KP Yohannan in India in 2005.

August 1, 2015 was a pretty difficult night. I went to my office to clean out 20 years of ministry from my office drawers, shelves, and walls. I found notes, cards, pictures, brochures, and other things that reminded me of all the travels my team and I have been on. Jenni Travasos started things off by going to Israel. I followed with a trip of my own. I also traveled to Rwanda, India, Kenya, Russia, Ukraine, United Arab Emirates, India, Guatemala, Netherlands, Moldova, Romania, China, Tibet, Haiti, Egypt, Dominican Republic, Thailand, Liberia, (and other I may have forgotten). Ruth Kramer traveled to Uganda, Egypt, South Africa, Mexico, and I’m sure I’m missing some. Katey Hearth our writer and social media coordinator has traveled to India and Haiti. Who would have thought any of us would ever do that?

<img loading="lazy" decoding="async" aria-describedby="caption-attachment-134853" class="wp-image-134853 size-medium" src="https://www.mnnonline.org/wp-content/uploads/2015/08/GregInHaiti2011-300x200.jpg" alt="Greg Yoder in Haiti one year after the earthquake.
The evolution in technology evolved, too. We started off sending audio feeds via telephone. Next we used dial-up internet to feed audio via e-mail. Then, we were able to record everything we needed and send audio files to the website through FTP. Now, we can actually record stories on our I-phones and send the reports through any cell service.

What was my favorite story? I have NO idea. There are so many. What I do know is God gave me opportunities to see Him at work. Each and every trip and story was an opportunity to see God at work and to share that with others.

What has our team accomplished? In 1995 (when Cornerstone acquired MNN), we were on about 475 radio stations. Thanks to the writing and production values of our producers Jenni Travasos (1995-97) and Ruth Kramer (1997-present) and the voice of Peter Brooks, we grew to over 1,400 radio outlets by 1999.

The Web site created by Chris ‘Topher’ DeRosia in 1996 gave us something no other news organization had at the time: a free online news service with audio. MNN was one of the first news services to offer a news subscription service via e-mail. MNN quickly grew to one of the top short features in the country, ranging as high as #5 by NRB. Then, in 2007, MNN was named the Best Short Feature by National Religious Broadcasters. We were awarded the Open Doors USA Passion for the Persecuted Award in 2009. MNN was also awarded the prestigious International Impact Award that same year from NRB.

In 2006, I started posting our news on Facebook, and soon after, Twitter. Both quickly took off. Now, with our social media coordinator Katey Hearth ‘s leadership, you can receive news from MNN all day long.

Over the years the MNN team also produced some amazing specials. They include: International Day of Prayer for the Persecuted Church (many years), Women’s Day Special (3 years), Ramadan Special (2 years), Easter special (1 year), Christmas Around The World (2 years).

Why did we do all this? To inspire and encourage average everyday Christians to get out of the church pew and do something for Christ: pray, give, go.

<img loading="lazy" decoding="async" aria-describedby="caption-attachment-134855" class="wp-image-134855 size-medium" src="https://www.mnnonline.org/wp-content/uploads/2015/08/GregYoderGregKelley-300x212.jpg" alt="Greg Yoder with Gregg Kelley with World Mission in the studio earlier this year.
Was MNN successful? If you were encouraged by just one of our newscasts, e-mail, specials, or social media release to pray, give, or go, we were successful.

Through the years, I’ve had the privilege of being interviewed by some amazing people. I’ll start with those I spoke with regularly: Greg Wheatley with Prime Time America (love Greg’s heart); In the Market with Janet Parshall (she ALWAYS forced me to really think); Austin Hill on Faith Radio; and Let’s Talk with Mark Elfstrand.

Then, the people I interviewed. There are too many to name specifically. I’ll leave someone out.

<img loading="lazy" decoding="async" aria-describedby="caption-attachment-134856" class="wp-image-134856 size-medium" src="https://www.mnnonline.org/wp-content/uploads/2015/08/GregOlympics-265x300.jpg" alt="Greg at the Sochi Olympics in Russia 2014 with SOAR International.
So, where am I going? God has clearly directed me away from Mission Network News to another passion of mine: kids. While MNN has clearly been a passion, I’m involved in ministry to kids when I’m out of the office. I sit on the board of Orphan Outreach and have traveled to many countries to reach out to kids so they can see, know, and understand who Jesus is.

Beginning on August 17, I’ll be the executive director of Keys for Kids Ministries (formerly Children’s Bible Hour). An international Christian ministry based on the Gospel of Jesus Christ, Keys for Kids Ministries produces and distributes excellent media resources to evangelize and disciple kids and their families. I’m thrilled that while I have told the stories of ministries working around the world, now I get to actually DO it every day.

And finally, I want to thank our MNN listeners and readers. Many of you have sent letters or e-mails, posted to our website, or called our news line. You have either been recipients of our e-news updates, listeners on the radio, Web site surfers, or social media friends. You are why we do what we do. We want you to know about the needs around the world so you can make a difference for God. Thank you for 20 years of adventure in what one singer calls, “The Great Adventure.”

International (MNN) — The Islamic State continues its aggression in the Middle East. IS has its sights set on Syria, Iraq, and has a presence in Pakistan and other countries, too. Boko Haram has pledged its allegiance to IS and continues its attacks on soft targets in Nigeria. These are just two groups leaving traumatized victims in its wake.

Emily Fuentes of Open Doors USA says they’ve started trauma counseling to help a felt need. “Our trauma counseling programs are in areas where it’s happening a lot, such as Nigeria or Iraq and Syria. We’re working with local churches to get a feeling for the need and what specifically people have been going through.”

The trauma has been profound. Fuentes says Nigeria is just one example. “People have experienced seeing their loved ones die before them in church when churches are attacked, or when Boko Haram attacks historically-Christian villages.”

Is it needed more now than ever? According to Fuentes, yes. “The type of persecution that’s happening to the broad scale is absolutely horrific,” she says. “In past years, we might see people thrown in jail for meeting together in a secret church. Now, we’re seeing extreme acts of violence.”

Fuentes says Boko harm has killed entire villages in Nigeria where hundreds of Christians were killed. IS has burned Christians live, crucified them, and had mass executions.”

She says this kind of trauma is hard to handle without help. “We work with certified counselors to help these individuals process everything they have seen, especially in countries where it’s happening almost on a daily basis.”

Open Doors works with local churches in these countries. Fuentes says, “They know their people best. They know the needs, and they have a good feeling for the situation. But what’s wonderful about our partners, too, is they’re reaching out to non-believers, especially in Iraq and Syria.”

She explains that “many people have been displaced by ISIS as well as Syria, with the civil war, including Muslims. So, it’s a time to reach out to them, to offer them care and get a good feel of how we can share Christ with them.”

The program has been successful, says Fuentes. “Churches have been able to reach out to those who don’t know Christ yet, and we’ve heard amazing stories of people coming to Christ as a result.”

Open Doors USA would like you to support their trauma counseling program. You can support their work here.

Israel (MNN) — Benjamin Netanyahu has been re-elected prime minister of Israel as his Likud Party won the majority of the seats in the Knesset, Israel’s parliament.

Many thought exit polls had the race at a dead heat, but that wasn’t accurate.

The future is bright for talking about Jesus in Israel–not because the prime minister’s party won re-election, but because of the issue that’s probably responsible for his re-election.

Middle East expert with E3 Partners Tom Doyle says Netanyahu won because of one issue: security. “The issues with ISIS, Iran, and its nuclear capability around the corner: it just shows that that is the #1 issue that’s on the minds of people in the Middle East and here.”

Peace doesn’t look like it’s coming any time soon. According to Doyle, “The real stormy issue here is that Netanyahu is saying, ‘We will not have a two-state solution unless the Palestinians recognize us and unless it can be built on peace.”

<img loading="lazy" decoding="async" aria-describedby="caption-attachment-129319" class="size-medium wp-image-129319" src="https://www.mnnonline.org/wp-content/uploads/2015/03/TomDoyleKillingChristians-300x300.jpg" alt="Tom Doyle with E3 Partners, author of the book Killing Christians. ( Facebook photo)

This is opposite of what the Obama administration is advocating. It’s just another reason for the stormy relationship between Obama and Netanyahu.

Doyle says, “When there’s no peace talks coming, then there’s going to be terrorist attacks.”

Because of that uncertainty, the Gospel is key. “30% of all people who live in Israel suffer from Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder. The possibility of suicide bombings, war with Iran, instability, desperation, and hopelessness can be an open door.”

Doyle adds, “People are questioning, they’re looking for hope. And the hope that Jesus can bring is just a game changer. These are the times where there’s such a great harvest [of souls] because people are open.”

Doyle says the hope Christ brings is what changes hearts. E3 is looking for people to pray and share that hope. Sign up to join e3’s 8-thirty-8 prayer effort, or their next trip to Israel.

Pakistan (MNN) -- Taliban suicide bombers target 2 churches.

Pakistan (MNN) — Christians in Pakistan are living in fear today following two bombings targeting two churches over the weekend in the Lahore suburb of Youhanabad.

According to reports, two suicide bombers with the Pakistan Taliban tried shooting their way into the churches during services Sunday. When they were met by security guards at the gates, the terrorists detonated their bombs. 15 people were killed, and 70 were wounded in the attack.

Bruce Allen with Forgotten Missionaries International says their Pakistan director was at the scene. “News reports that I’ve been reading out of Pakistan are saying 15 are dead, and yet he counted 60.”

The churches are about 600 meters (1,800 feet) from one another.

This is just the latest persecution against Christians in what authorities are calling an “increasingly fractured country.”

In a statement, a spokesman for the Pakistani Taliban Ahsanullah Ahsan says, “There will be more of such attacks.”

Allen says this is no surprise. At least two dozen Pakistani Taliban groups have pledged allegiance to the Islamic State. “We’ve been seeing deadly school attacks with over 140 killed, multiple mosque attacks, multiple church attacks of suicide bombers. It’s only going to increase. They’d love to see the government totally collapse.”

Allen says the government is concerned and they are “increasing their response to terrorism, although the rapid terrorist response team did not arrive on the scene until 35 hours after the bomb blast.”

What does this mean for the work Forgotten Missionaries International is doing? Allen says it hasn’t stopped their work, but it is causing them to strategize differently. “Many Muslims are really questioning the validity of their religion, and they’re questioning it openly. I was sharing with [some of] them that as much as they are seeking the truth about God, the Heavenly Father is seeking people who will worship Him in Spirit and in Truth.”

Forgotten Missionaries International reports there are many opportunities for evangelism, church planting, and discipleship. “We want to make sure that our evangelists have good resources, whether it’s the Bible to share–hard copy, or on CD so that people who are not literate can still hear the Gospel.”

Pastors also need support. “FMI has received applications from over two dozen qualified pastors. We have these guys in the pipeline who say, ‘We would love to be in ministry; we just need some assistance to get this job done.'”

To support a pastor, all it takes is $100 per month. Go to http://www.ForgottenMissionaries.org.
