China (MNN) -- From Beijing to rural communities, churches use the season to reach new people and disciple new believers.

China (MNN) — Christmas is an afterthought in most parts of the world today. Decorations are stored, and shiny new toys have become routine. For Christians in China, however, Christmas marks the start of a busy season.

Erik Burklin with China Partner Ministries says, “In countries like China, that are considered more restrictive towards the Gospel, Christians use that event to share the Gospel with those who don’t know Christ.”

This year, outreach activities ranged from large Christmas events in Beijing to home visits and the provision of care items for elderly people. More about that here.

“One church used that Christmas season to go door to door visiting old folks in the poor parts of the interior of China, to make sure that the elderly were taken care of,” Burklin says.

“People would ask questions like, ‘Why would you take care of me?’ And they probably answered, ‘We do this because we love Christ.’”

Sharing Christ often leads to persecution in China, but Christmas provides a Gospel opportunity. One church in Beijing’s university district used Christ’s birth as a springboard.

“This church is using Christmas to share the Gospel with many people that otherwise would never hear it,” Burklin says.

“They preach Jesus Christ coming to earth so that He could die on the cross, so that we could have salvation and eternal life through Him.”

Belief is only the starting point in the Chinese Church. “They have a very strict way of how they call somebody a Christian,” Burklin says. “They believe that you are not born again until you’re baptized.”

Now, months of discipleship are underway. Pray for new believers as they grow and mature.

“A lot of these churches are very well-equipped to follow up with these individuals. Many of them have baptism classes or discipleship classes,” Burklin says.

“Somebody believes in Christ. They say, ‘Okay, that’s a good first step. Now we need to disciple you, teach you what it means to be a Christian, and then that leads to baptism. Once you’re baptized, that’s when we call you a Christian.”

Iran (MNN) – Transform Iran’s new AI tool, Kairos, offers Biblically-grounded answers.

Iran (MNN) – Transform Iran’s new AI tool, Kairos, offers Biblically-grounded and real-time answers to questions about God and the Bible.

Lana Silk with Transform Iran says the end goal is not solely to be in the AI space, but to solve real problems and help people connect with the Gospel. However, it is crucial to have Christian involvement in the fast-moving world of technology. This dilemma was forefront as Transform Iran sought to make their online apologetic center more user-friendly.

(Photo is a representative stock image courtesy of Tara Winstead via Pexels)

“People want more bite-size, more personalized. So, in order to solve that problem, we began down this journey towards AI. We ended up with a tool that was capable of even more than we had hoped. And with that, we had to start dealing with the challenges of AI. How do we make sure that it says truthful to the Word of God? How do we make sure that it’s entirely reliable? So when people are asking it questions, they can know what’s coming back to them is 100% Scripture-based.”

Based in Truth

To do this Transform Iran had to tackle the massive concern of “AI hallucinations”. This term refers to the practice of AI fabricating the answers to questions for which it cannot find a clear answer. A tool making up information about God would be a massive concern for a Bible-based tool. The Transform Iran team was able to circumvent this by programing Kairos to admit when it does not have the answers.

(Photo is courtesy of Transform Iran)

When a person asks Kairos a question it searches the database of Biblical information it has been given by Transform Iran’s team of theologians, apologists, software engineers, and researchers. If there is no answer available, it is programed to respond, “I don’t know. You can check back in a few days. Our team has been notified that that this question still needs answering.”

Who is Chatting?

This transparency helps with another concern about the perceptions of the user. Do they know “who” is answering the questions? It is critical that when AI is doing the work, that is clear.

“We don’t want people to be misled and to get into a place where they think they’re interacting with a human, or worse, with God himself. So we’ve put in measures in Kairos where we are actively protecting the answers and making sure that the way that it answers the questions that people give it don’t mislead them into thinking that they are interacting with a live pastor on the other end, or worse, texting Jesus, so to speak.”

Meeting a Need

In places like Iran, Kairos is meeting a very real need that a human can’t do as effectively right now. Silk says there are people across Iran who are afraid to text, email, or call Transform Iran because of government tracking. When people go online, Transform Iran offers a free, safe and reliable VPN to help them access Kairos and ask their questions. She says it’s not a replacement for human discipling, but it is a tool they hope will bolster the Church.

“Kairos is such a phenomenal tool, but there is a really sort of noisy AI space out there. We really believe we have created something uniquely powerful that does overcome the constantly talked about challenges of AI. So, pray for us that we can really get the word out there for it. We want people to benefit from what we’ve developed. It’s available in 250 plus languages. It’s free to use.”

Please pray that God would open doors to help Kairos help accelerate the Gospel in hard-to-reach areas like Iran. Pray also for the Transform Iran team as they continue to monitor Kairos, answer questions, and honor God with this new technology.

Sri Lanka (MNN) — Three tandem cyclones caused mass devastation.

Sri Lanka (MNN) — Parts of South Asia are reeling after three tandem cyclones swept across the region and prompted mass floods. The destruction in Sri Lanka alone is overwhelming.

Christian World Outreach’s (CWO) Greg Yoder says, “There’s been over 600 that have died, and there’s still a lot of missing people. With flooding, that’s always an issue because people are buried and that kind of thing.”

Roads and bridges are washed out, cutting off whole villages. Tragedy struck a CWO partner church when one family couldn’t access a hospital, and their infant daughter died from a medical emergency.

CWO is ministering to grieving families and meeting needs where they can. Yoder says, “Probably we’re going to need to do food assistance because flooding has caused damage to their farms, and we’ve already heard that prices are rising for food.”

Amidst the crisis, the season of Christmas presents an opportunity for CWO to bring relief and hope to children impacted by flooding.

“During this time of year, Christmas, we’ll give them a Christmas gift,” says Yoder. “It’ll have things that they can use, like notebooks, pens, and pencils. Those that don’t have shoes, we’ll give them shoes [and] things they need along with a food package. That’s, again, just an opportunity to share with these children, which actually ministers to the families.”

Pray with CWO for families in Sri Lanka.

“A lot of those children are Buddhist or Hindu, and so it opens the door to share Christ with them, and we just pray that God will open their eyes to the truth.”

You can also tangibly support CWO’s Gospel ministry in Sri Lanka.

KDEC’s Pastor Sam emphasizes, “It’s not about the number, actually. It’s about the Kingdom. We are Kingdom-minded, not church-minded.

“We believe that the Church exists for the Great Commission, to continue the message that Jesus Christ started, and help people to get to the knowledge of Jesus Christ. We pass the message of hope for people.”

Out of Egypt’s 118 million people, Pastor Sam says, “At least 20 million are Christians. The majority are Coptic Orthodox — 93%. Five percent are Evangelicals, and the rest are Catholic. So we are a minority among minorities — but thank God that we can reach the multitude!”

KDEC meets people where they are through creative outreach. Pastor Sam says, for example, “We have the largest sports ministry program in the Middle East. We serve around 750,000 per year across Egypt and also in the Middle East. We are using sports to reach people [with] the knowledge of Christ.”

Another outreach draws thousands to music festivals. “We developed a program called Count It Right in partnership with Palau’s organization. We have a festival, and people come from different backgrounds to watch the shows. In each station, we share…the Gospel.”

Whatever the method, Pastor Sam says it all comes down to one goal — telling as many people as possible about Jesus.

“We are using different ‘languages.’ I don’t mean like Arabic and English. I mean languages like sports, music, apologetics, media, [and] social media to grab people’s attention to the message of Christ.”

When asked how Christians can pray, Pastor Sam responds with sincere reverence: “Pray for grace and wisdom as we’re serving the Lord. [Pray] for the Church in Egypt to be in the center of God’s will, and to be brave, and to continue sharing the Good News without fear.”

Belarus (MNN) — SGA-sponsored Compassion Ministry is having a spiritual impact!

Belarus (MNN) — It was an outreach that they were told would never work. When Slavic Gospel Association (SGA) first launched its Compassion Ministry in Belarus — delivering food and essentials to needy families — local pastors were skeptical. They insisted that Belarusians would never open their doors to strangers.

However, Eric Mock with SGA says, “What they hadn’t counted on is there are a lot of people that didn’t know where their next meal was going to come from, and they would happily open the door to a pastor that wanted to tell them a message of hope and bring them a bag of groceries.”

In the countries of Belarus, Ukraine, Kazakhstan, and Tajikistan, SGA-sponsored missionary pastors are visiting needy families in their regions with much-needed parcels of staple food items. (Photo, caption courtesy of SGA)

Now, 11 years later, the SGA-supported Compassion Ministry is flourishing.

SGA supports 55 missionary pastors in Belarus, 35 of whom are actively involved in the Compassion Ministry.

“The figure the pastors last week gave me is that 7% of all people coming to faith, out of all the ministry of the churches in Belarus, are through this Compassion Ministry!” says Mock.

“Ten percent of all the pastors in Belarus are engaged in this Compassion Ministry through support from SGA.”

The pastors themselves often have very little. Yet, Mock says, “They faithfully declare the Gospel in their community, and here they give of the abundance of their heart more than an abundance of resources. So we help them in that, and that’s opened up doors and people have been coming to faith.”

Praise God for open doors and hearts to the Gospel in Belarus!

You can support SGA’s Compassion Ministry here.

Indonesia (MNN) — Wait! What? When the Word of God is so powerful it stops people in their tracks.

Indonesia (MNN) — All eyes in Southeast Asia and beyond are on Indonesia as a new wave of protests sweeps the country.

Indonesia is a vast nation of striking contrasts. Some regions face significant persecution of believers, and reports have emerged of extremists — like ISIS — setting up camps and training there. Yet ministries based in the country continue to see openness and success in sharing the Gospel, even amid the protests.

John Pudaite from Bibles For The World says, “These protests are being led by students primarily across the country, who feel that this current government is becoming rather repressive and also quite corrupt, and is passing laws and bills that are benefiting them.”

Map of Indonesia (photo courtesy of Putri Nabila via Unsplash)

The main demands include economic reforms to help the middle class have financial stability, more job opportunities with fair salaries for young professionals and graduates, and freedom for opposition voices.

The protests also reveal the nation’s deeper need for hope.

“You could just feel such a poverty for Scripture there in that country, that they haven’t had access to it, and they really want to know what’s written in God’s Word,” explains Pudaite.

Christians responded to this need by going out to share the Good News with protestors.

“The most recent wave of protests and violence we had a wonderful window to provide 80,000 Gospels of John and 15,000 New Testaments for the new believers,” he says.

The Gospel is so refreshing that people often stop in their tracks!

“So often we saw them just kind of step off to the side and start reading God’s word immediately,” he shares.

Pray for lasting peace and economic breakthrough across the country. Pray also for the Gospel to fill the deep void of hope.

“We continue to pray into this situation, that the Prince of Peace may prevail, that these — especially the violent protests — may subside, and that the people will, in the process, come to know that Jesus Christ is truly the only way to everlasting peace and hope,” says Pudaite.

Ukraine (MNN) — Summer camps for Ukrainian youth bring healing to children broken by war and family hardship through the Gospel.

“He heals the brokenhearted and binds up their wounds.” Psalm 147:3

Photo courtesy of Slavic Gospel Association (SGA)

Divorce, abuse, war, and abandonment have shaped how these teenagers in Ukraine perceive life. Yet, when invited to church summer camps, they could finally breathe in hope.

Eric Mock from Slavic Gospel Association says:

“They were angry, confused, and now they walk away with hope, because they were judging God by their circumstances, not by His Word, not by His promises. And then secondly, in their circumstances, they had seen no love.”

This project brought together 160 young people for worship, rest, healing, and spiritual growth. A team of speakers — pastors, missionaries, coaches, and counselors — poured into the youth every day, helping shape their worldview spiritually and walking with them through the hard realities of life.

Aneliya, came to camp after her father went to the front lines and her mother abandoned the family; she prayed to receive Jesus and left with renewed hope.

Kateryna, from a violent home, called camp her “new birth” and found people she could trust.

Maksym, who had never opened a Bible, repented on his own and began eagerly following God.

Violeta, rescued from abuse, prayed publicly for the first time and left deeply grateful.

Olena, abandoned by her parents, arrived unwilling but left with new friends and hope.

Samuel, whose early trauma turned his hair gray, repented and found the friends he had long missed.

And more!

Photo courtesy of Slavic Gospel Association (SGA)

“Through the faithful believers ministering to them, they saw love,” says Mock — and believed in Jesus!

The realities of life can cloud and confuse a one-week camp memory. Mock says the work continues throughout the year through local churches: “That’s why God has raised up the church to minister to these kids. Some are orphans, whom the churches are ministering to and supporting through the SGA Orphans Reborn program, and some come from impoverished families.”

Though the camps are ending, the team is already planning what’s next, including a Christmas outreach.

“One of the greatest prayer requests is that we wish that every child that hears the Gospel, the seeds of the Gospel would take roots in their heart, and they would grow up to be those adults that desire to follow the Lord,” urges Mock.

Ukraine (MNN) — A chance to give hope to children hurt by war is too precious to miss.

Ukraine (MNN) — A chance to give hope to children hurt by war is too precious to miss.

“Their children often will panic; some will wet themselves. They struggle with sleeplessness and emotions every time the siren goes off…”

Eric Mock from Slavic Gospel Assosiation recounts conversations he had with Ukrainian families and children about how they endure the war. The situation is grim, as Russian attacks intensify, wiping out families and stealing nights’ rest.

Despite active shelling and attacks, churches remain determined to organize summer camps for kids. Mock says, “In the middle of the sirens blaring, in the middle of the difficulties and the trials, they said it’s summertime. So we’re going to reach these kids with the gospel.”

Many Ukrainian children age eleven and younger don’t know a reality without war, having been born into it. Those from areas under frequent attack carry deep mental traumas. This reality underscores the vital importance of children-focused ministry.

“The summer camps become like an oasis away from the storms of life. They hear of joy and peace and of a love that will never leave them — a God who will never forsake them, a God who has poured out immeasurable grace and mercy. Especially for these children, who have known only difficulty, the message is one of warmth and care,” says Mock.

SGA partners with Ukrainian churches that organize summer camps. “God raises up the right people to take his gospel to the right communities in a way that only they can, and so SGA enters into their ministries,” explains Mock. Visit SGA website to learn more!

The summer camps take different forms — from day programs in city centers surrounded by apartment blocks to gatherings in the woods or at rented facilities. Yet in every setting, a faithful group of believers continues the work, pressing on for the sake of the gospel despite many difficulties.

“These faithful believers fix their eyes not on their own safety but persevere, knowing that even one child or family might hear the gospel for the first time through these summer camps and find peace,” says Mock.

Pray for the seeds of the gospel to bring hope for the future of these children. Pray also for the protection of civilians and the end of war.

USA (MNN) — We have this hope as an anchor for the soul!

United States (MNN) — Once they know what Jesus did for them, they can’t be silent.

God is at work in Native communities! Every summer, On Eagles’ Wings — a division of Hutchcraft Ministries — organizes Summer of Hope outreaches to reservations.

Doug Hutchcraft from Hutchcraft Ministries shares, “There have been six [outreaches] this summer. Like the other communities we visited, this is a community screaming for hope, [there’s] the hope crisis.”

On Eagles’ Wings equips Native American believers to bring the hope of Christ to their communities.
(Screenshot)

The On Eagles’ Wings team, dressed in green shirts declaring “We have this hope as an anchor for the soul” (Hebrews 6:19), aims to bring that hope.

Outreaches bring powerful testimonies! One new Native believer, Carrie, had just given her heart to Christ.

“She immediately, when she’s done praying, goes and runs to her group of friends a few yards away, saying, ‘You need this too. You need this Jesus.’” Like the biblical account of the Samaritan woman at the well, Carrie became a rescuer of her people within moments of giving her life to Jesus.

The ministry goes by invitation. “Once we get invited, we will go physically meet with the people there that are the inviters. [We] make sure that there is sufficient follow-up and people to disciple and bring these new believers into the faith in a responsible way,” says Hutchcraft. They continue serving alongside Native young people throughout the year.

Hutchcraft adds, “[There are] just amazing things that God is doing. He is such an amazing God. These things don’t happen without the power of the Holy Spirit filling the lives, the hearts of these young heroes on this team.”

The On Eagles’ Wings team faithfully follows the Great Commission among Native communities, but they need your prayers and support.

“We do need God’s people to come alongside to pray and be the fuel that makes this possible,” he adds.

Haiti (MNN) — Amid the bad news in the country, Haitians in distant places can hear the Good News.

Haiti (MNN) — Accessing Christian radio in the remote areas of Haiti has become much easier, thanks to solar-powered technology.

Haiti, plagued by gang violence and instability, has a desperate need for hope. While Christians can’t always physically reach those in need, radio signals do — uninterrupted and unrestricted. However, traditional radios relied on batteries, which eventually died, leaving listeners isolated from the uplifting messages they needed.

This challenge has been overcome with the introduction of solar-powered radios. Kate Michel from Radio-TV 4VEH, a ministry partner of Trans World Radio, explains:

(Photo of Haitians courtesy of TopSphere Media via Unsplash.)

“When we give these out in communities, we go door to door, share the Gospel with people, and invite them into a relationship with Jesus. Whether they choose to accept Him that day or not, we leave behind a solar radio for that family. It’s tuned to 4VEH, so they can continue to hear the Gospel content.”

The Gospel content includes preaching, programs on farming, health, and family counseling, along with worship music and the recorded audio Bible.

Their impact has inspired many Haitians and international partners to support the ministry. Michel adds:

“Our listeners have been giving to 4VEH for a long time because they see how important it is — not just in their own lives, but they see that as they contribute to 4VEH, they’re sending the Gospel to places in Haiti where they could never go.”

The 4VEH team carries these solar radios as they visit new communities, freely distributing them. Over the past few years, they’ve distributed more than 20,000 radios! In some instances, a single radio has brought believers together, fostering the growth of church communities and planting one church after another.

Michel also highlights the broader vision:

“The whole project is called Resounding Hope, because we just long to hear the hope of Jesus resounding through Haiti’s countryside, across the mountains, and all of that.”
