Spain (MNN) — The cause of Monday’s blackouts remained a mystery on Tuesday.

Spain (MNN) — Power has returned to Spain and Portugal after Monday’s blackouts. Public transportation, commerce and communication came to a sudden halt shortly after noon across the two nations, along with power cuts in parts of France, Italy, Germany and other regions of Europe.

As of Tuesday, the grid operator in Spain had ruled out the possibility of the power failure being a cyber attack. Spain’s prime minister cautioned against making speculations during the investigations, which could lead to misinformation.

Denise Godwin with International Media Ministries (IMM) says, “We sat through a three-hour discussion in somebody’s office with alarms going off today, trying to talk about sets for our upcoming project to be filmed in May, June and July. So it’s definitely been an extraordinary day.”

Esther: Queen of Hope (Photo courtesy of International Media Ministries)

The disruption came at a significant time for IMM, as “we’re very intently trying to get things ready for filming and needing all of our resources to do so,” Godwin says. “So it’s not your ideal situation for moving forward as quickly as you possibly can on a giant project for the Middle East!”

She says the team has been in prayer and fasting this month because they are in an intense season of ministry.

“So it’s interesting that the end of April would go out with such flair as we’re praying and fasting and asking God to help us,” she says. “You learn to trust in God in these intense times!”

IMM and other ministries in Spain touch the Middle East, North Africa, Asia with their gospel ministry. Godwin says it’s important that they can communicate digitally with others.

“But you know, God knows these things are going to happen, and we have to learn even more, even though we’re missionaries, to trust in Him. Pray that we would be strong and that we would be wise to put our energies and our efforts into the right things.”

Spain (MNN) -- Church volunteers are meeting needs.

Spain (MNN) — As massive flash floods ravage Spain’s Valencia region, the crisis shows no signs of slowing. Days after torrential rains devastated communities and claimed over 215 lives, heavy storm clouds linger over Barcelona.

“This morning, there’s been torrential downpours that have shut down part of the Barcelona airport,” says Denise Godwin with International Media Ministries (IMM). “They’re saying landslides are possible [and] nobody should drive their cars in several cities along the coast.”

Torrential rain has forced parts of the Barcelona Airport to shut down. (Photo courtesy of Tobias/Unsplash)

The flood’s intensity has prompted a large-scale mobilization of aid, with over 10,000 additional soldiers and police deployed to Valencia. Search teams are still working through debris.

“Everybody’s trying to be really proactive now that they’re realizing the suddenness of these storms,” Godwin explains.

Flooding like this isn’t common in Spain. But when it happens, it can be catastrophic. One area received a year’s worth of rain in 8 hours.

Godwin says, “It tends to not rain for ages and ages and ages. Then when it rains, it rains a lot, but [the country] is just not really equipped for it, so these floods come on suddenly. This is — according to the news media here in Spain — the worst in over 100 years.”

In Valencia, the Convoy of Hope has started organizing church volunteers to meet physical needs for water, food, and emergency supplies.

The flooding has left thousands of people with hard questions and searching for hope.

“When people lose houses, cars, freedoms, really, it really throws them into questioning life and questioning who God is, why life is like it is,” says Godwin. “It’s really a good opportunity for churches and believers to be in the community and helping.”

For IMM, it’s a chance to minister through media, reaching people with the Gospel amid the destruction.

“We send media into places where there’s crisis or where there’s no freedom,” Godwin says. “It’s an opportunity, when there’s this disconnect from what we think of as our real lives, our normal lives, to help people reconsider how they view God, how they view their own life, [and] eternal life.”

As Spain grapples with this tragedy, Godwin asks, “Pray for all the believers who are in these communities…. Pray for them, to have anointing from the Holy Spirit to be able to communicate to people around them the strength of the Gospel in hardship, the hope of the Gospel in eternity.”

Pray for the distressed people in Spain affected by the flooding to seek Christ.

Spain (MNN) — Russia's invasion of Ukraine caused gas prices in Europe to spike.

Spain (MNN) — Spanish truckers have agreed to “temporarily” suspend a three-week strike. They want better pay to compensate for rapidly rising gas prices.

Russia’s invasion of Ukraine made that problem significantly worse. Organizers of the strike say it could continue in the future, but the government has agreed to a discount on gas prices for truckers.

International Media Ministries operates out of Spain, and Denise Godwin says, “The fuel costs went up dramatically in just a few days all over Europe. On average, people are paying 20-50 euros more for a tank of gas. That happened in just a matter of days. There are some shortages in the stores. The most common shortage you see is no milk on the shelves.”

“A lot of people are saying, ‘All that was left was soy milk.’”

Godwin says the shortages remind people of much harsher conditions in Ukraine itself.

European churches

Across Europe, churches continue sending aid to Ukraine and taking in refugees.

In Poland, churches had stored up food well before the invasion even started. Godwin says, “Essentially, miracles happen every day that they’re able to fill a track and send it to the Polish receiving centers. Croatia has done a lot. Buses have gone from Madrid, bringing people from Poland all the way here.”

While transporting refugees, churches also need to be on the lookout for human trafficking. Women and children make up most of the refugees. Godwin says, “They’re trying to make sure it’s very official, that the buses and the people who go in the buses are checked carefully. Because trafficking organizations have gone to the border.”

IMM creates Gospel videos to share with Ukrainian refugees. Ask God to bring comfort. Godwin says, “It’s an important time to present a God who cares about them as individuals and what’s happening to them.”

Spain (MNN) -- Moroccans are the largest foreign community living in Spain

Spain (MNN) — Government collaboration has nearly halved the number of Moroccan migrant arrivals in Spain, officials announced earlier this month. Numbering over 700,000, Moroccans are reportedly the largest foreign community living in Spain.

Driven by scant hope for their future, Moroccans often head to Spain in search of economic stability and educational opportunities. There, culture shock awaits. Christian workers in Spain try to help them transition into stable lives by providing things like food and language training.

Grace*, who has been actively involved in serving migrants for about eight years, says this is truly a moment where a cup of cold water in Jesus’ name plants a seed for a deeper relationship.

“They’re not seen as a project or as a number but they understand truly we’re investing in their lives, and we care about them,” Grace says.

“In that safe space, that really gives us the freedom and the opportunity to share with them what Christ means for us. Often…in sharing our own personal testimony, and what we have seen God do in our own lives, that opens those doors.”

As described here, Islamic law and culture pose a significant threat to believers. Unlike Morocco, Spain affords extensive religious freedom. Freedom like this is new to Moroccans, and it provides the space for a spiritual quest to blossom.

Grace says it’s a beautiful process.

(Photo courtesy of Open Doors USA)

“I have one friend that I study Arabic with and we’ve known each other for some years. She’s really beginning now to ask those questions, to seek the answers of ‘Who is Christ?’,” Grace describes.

“I know that she’s wrestling now with ‘this message is appealing. I’m drawn by His love, but what does this mean for my life? What does this mean for my family?’…it takes time to consider those questions.”

Pray for Grace and other believers ministering to Moroccan migrants who come to Spain. Ask God to plant the seeds of hope in the hearts of incoming Moroccans, and that they will encounter believers to help them grow.

Eurasia (MNN) -- Deaf Bible translators note challenges, progress in Eurasia

Eurasia (MNN) — Political and cultural lines divide nations and continents, but Eurasia is the world’s single largest landmass. It contains roughly 65-percent of the world’s 7 billion people, including millions of Deaf who have no access to God.

Deaf Bible Society is changing this through sign language Bible translation. Mike Brabo, Eurasia Field Coordinator for DBS, says they could use your help.

“Ask God how you may be part of the solution by providing funds and prayer… until all the Deaf in Eurasia shall see the Gospel of Jesus Christ and be able to grow in their faith and walk with God.”

Bible translation work in Eurasia

Deaf Bible Society funds and distributes Bible content in more than 25 sign languages. See the full list here. None of the world’s 400+ sign languages has a complete Bible, but DBS is working towards a global goal: God’s Word in Every Sign Language.

(Graphic courtesy DBS via Facebook)

Deaf teams in Eurasia are currently translating God’s Word into four sign languages:

Bulgarian Sign Language

Catalan Sign Language (Spain)

Romanian Sign Language

Russian Sign Language

Brabo says they have more in mind for 2020, and it all begins with outreach. “We (Field Coordinators) make contact with Deaf Christians in a specific country to determine their interest,” he explains.

“As these conversations and the relationships develop, we then begin discussing [how to establish] a sign language Bible translation in their native language.”

A common assumption also presents a significant test for Deaf translators, Brabo adds.

“Probably the greatest challenge out there is the perception of the larger community that Deaf people are unable to accomplish much, that they’re just not able to accomplish anything – including translating the Word of God.”

How do Deaf translate God’s Word?

As noted here, Deaf people comprise a very small percentage of the global population. Deaf believers are even more rare – only an estimated two-percent of Deaf people know and follow Christ.

But God never fails to provide Deaf Christian communities with the people and resources they need to begin sign language Bible translations. DBS and its partners often serve as the catalyst.

(Photo courtesy of DBS via Facebook)

“They (Deaf believers) choose their own team members, and then we come alongside and provide training and equipping for specific roles that are needed on the translation team,” Brabo explains.

“We encourage them to choose team members, particularly the translators and the team leader, who are actively maturing in their Christian faith. Ideally, persons who have grown up all their lives in the Deaf community and are fluent in the local sign language… having a teachable attitude is also crucial.”

Often, God “grows” and develops these believers over time. For example, one translator on the Romanian Sign Language team first met Brabo in 1990. He and his Deaf wife were part of a DOOR International team teaching local Deaf about evangelism, discipleship, and church planting.

“On an Easter Sunday, I preached on the resurrection and after the service, a Deaf man came up and he said, ‘I have never seen, never heard of the resurrection’,” Brabo recalls.

“Jesus, the dead guy who’s hanging on the cross, I see Him on crucifixes all over our country. Tell me more about this resurrection.”

The man became a believer after Brabo explained the Gospel in the man’s heart language – Romanian Sign Language. “Today, 25 years later, he’s a faithful pastor… and he is also a key part of the Romanian sign language Bible translation [team],” Brabo says.

“He knows the Word of God is powerful when it is viewed by Deaf individuals. So, he desires to see the Word of God in its entirety translated for all the Deaf of Romania to see and know our Lord Jesus.”

Here’s another example of God moving powerfully through the Romanian Deaf team.

How can I help?

Now that you know, how will you respond? Brabo recommends connection and prayer as first steps. “Follow DBS on our Facebook Page, sign up for a prayer letter,” he suggests.

Ask the Lord to strengthen and encourage Deaf believers who are translating God’s Word into their heart sign language. Pray Deaf Bible Society and its partners will have the resources they need to train and equip national Deaf translation teams.

(Graphic courtesy of DBS via Facebook)

“Ask God to bless them, to equip them, to give them the tools and resources – spiritual and physical resources – needed [so] that they may accomplish all that God has in store for them,” Brabo asks.

“[Pray] that they may go translate the Word of God and… see their Deaf community transformed by the Gospel.”

Spain (MNN) -- Before terrorists struck, God was moving

Spain (MNN) — A hearing was held yesterday for 12 suspects in an alleged ISIS terror cell responsible for the attacks in Barcelona and Cambrils last week.

Barcelona police. (Photo courtesy of Lisa Grech-Mahoney via Flickr under Creative Commons: https://goo.gl/TECXu9)

Around 5:00 pm local time Thursday, a vehicle drove into a street of tourists in the heart of Barcelona and killed 13 people. Not long after that, another terrorist vehicle attack and stabbing in Cambrils killed one more and injured six just after midnight Friday morning. A driver of a hijacked car was also found stabbed to death just outside Barcelona. In total, 15 people were killed and more than 100 injured in this series of terror attacks.

In addition to the 12 arrested, eight members of the alleged terror cell have been killed, including the driver of the van who rammed into Barcelona pedestrians. Two died in an accidental house explosion before the attacks, which changed the nature of their strike plan, and six were killed by police in shootouts — four by one heroic officer who responded to the Cambrils attacks.

All the 12 arrested suspects at yesterday’s court hearing were young men of North African descent. Rebeca Lampaya, Spain Field Leader with Operation Mobilization, says this attack could cause a further rift between Spanish locals and North African immigrants.

“Probably they are getting a bit angry because, as you might know, there is a big population of North Africans meeting in Barcelona and in the surrounding areas.”

Lampaya says the Barcelona attack hit extremely close to home for OM’s ministry there. “We don’t have an OM team in Barcelona…but we have a team just very close, about 25 kilometers south of Barcelona. It is very well connected with public transportation, so our team goes to Barcelona probably a couple of times a week.

City square in Barcelona, Spain.

“As a matter of fact, the team was there the previous day and walking through the affected area. So the team was very shocked because it could have happened to them, you know, if they had a change of plans or whatever, they could have been walking that street on Thursday at the time of the attack.”

Not only that, but the attack in Cambrils was close on their ministry’s heels as well. Just one month ago, OM held a five-day evangelism training conference in Tarragona. The OM team had ventured into the park in Cambrils to share the Gospel and they even had the opportunity to speak with several North African people there.

“The day before the outreach, we went to talk to the mayor of the town, we went to the city hall, [and] we asked them if we could pray for them. But they said, ‘No, please pray for the town of Cambrils.’ So it’s very interesting, it was like, ‘Okay, we’ll pray for the town of Cambrils’, and after a month, this is happening.”

Although these terrorist attacks have caused shock, fear, and even anger, Lampaya says she sees God strategically going ahead of them to enact Gospel workers where they will be needed.

Plaza in Cambrils, Spain.

“It could have happened in a different town, there are many different towns surrounding the Barcelona area. But just happening in Cambrils where we were working just a month before the attack, we are still digesting and trying to see what is the plan of God in this area.”

It has stirred the local churches to action. “Right now, the churches are praying and sending messages of comfort to the families that have been affected…. They see the reality, that it’s not only what they see in different countries like Syria, Afghanistan, Iraq, and other countries, but it can also happen in our city.”

Lampaya says their biggest prayer need now is for the spread of the Gospel in Barcelona, Cambrils, and all of Spain.

“I think they can pray for unity among the local churches in Barcelona. Barcelona is a big city. There are many different churches, many different ministries, and they tend to work very individualistic, not really working on helping each other. So just pray that things like this will help the local church to work together, not look in maybe the differences they have about denominations or the kind of work they do, but that they will be united in reaching to the city together as one Body of Christ.”

Also, she adds, “Spain needs [Gospel] workers. Spain is a country that evangelicals are a minority, so sometimes when you have this kind of attack, it won’t help very much when we are trying to recruit workers to come and work in Spain because of what happened last Thursday. So I think it would be interesting to pray that whoever God is calling to work in Europe…that they will take the courage to come and work in countries like Spain, no matter what happened before. It’s true that it can happen again because Europe is a target of these kinds of terrorist attacks, but I think it’s important that people who God is calling to reach out to nationals, to those who are in need of understanding what the Gospel means, that they will come no matter what they hear on the news.”

Spain (MNN) -- Immigrants find welcome at community centers

Spain (MNN) — When you want to share your faith story with someone, it’s usually a good idea to sit back and listen to their story, first. That’s what one ministry is doing through art therapy, and it has become an avenue to talk about the Gospel.

World Gospel Mission partners with a ministry in Spain by sending missionaries to work at their community centers. This ministry is reaching out to those who are ignored at best and rejected and mistrusted at worst.

*Katie is a volunteer with the program. She says, “In our community centers, we offer services to immigrants, mostly coming from North Africa. We try to help with social and cultural integration through offering Spanish classes, English classes, and technology classes. We do educational support for children and teenagers.”

Most of the people they work with come from Morocco. But they also meet people from Sub-Saharan Africa as well as the Middle East. Katie says the community center offers them something they usually won’t find anywhere else.

“I think a lot of them need to experience love and acceptance because as immigrants living in Europe, especially because they’re Muslim, I think they sense some rejection and have trouble really integrating into the culture.”

She says that the prevalence of terrorist attacks in Europe has not helped matters and there’s been a lot of pushback.

Art therapy leads to conversations

Recently, the center began offering art therapy. Many of the women who came to the center carry stories heavy with grief and trauma. Art therapy helps them share and process their experiences.

“The women come and we choose different mental and emotional health topics to discuss each week and do some kind of art or craft. And that has opened a lot of doors for women to share about their deep pain or struggles or trials. And then that really opens the door for us to share the love of God [and] even to be able to incorporate Jesus’ teaching into topics like anxiety, for example.”

This project, while deepening relationships and helping women heal, has opened the door to share more of God’s truth with the women. Katie shares the story of a woman from Syria to show how that happens.

“She’s been coming to our center and also coming to the art therapy and has just experienced the pain of watching her country kind of disintegrate and all the destruction that’s been going on there.”

Through the class, she was also able to share her grief of losing a family member to the war in Syria. Her level of openness allowed the workers to invite her to an Arabic church. Here, she learned about God, the Father. The exposure she’s had to the truths of Gospel has led her closer and closer to accepting Christ.

If you’d like to help out with this work, there are a couple of things you can do. First, pray. Ask God to use this outreach to help immigrants adjust to society, and to open their hearts to the Gospel. Pray for perseverance and energy for those who are reaching out.

Katie says often there are short-term mission teams who visit from all over the world. You can get more information on this by contacting World Gospel Mission here.

International (MNN) -- Trying to decide if missions is your calling? An AMG internship can help.

<img loading="lazy" decoding="async" aria-describedby="caption-attachment-115852" class="size-medium wp-image-115852" src="https://www.mnnonline.org/wp-content/uploads/2014/03/AMG_Dios-es-Amor-student-03-25-14-200x300.jpg" alt="Daniel is a 13 year old boy with severe heart trouble.
International (MNN) – Do you feel like missions might be God’s calling for your life, but aren’t ready to commit to a long-term trip?

One great way to test the waters is through internships. This summer, two college students are interning with AMG international in order to assist those in need, share Christ’s love and gain a clearer view of God’s plan for their lives.

Morgan Summers is a junior at Lee University studying special education and will be teaching special needs children in Mexico this summer. She says in a video blog by AMG: “I felt God lay it on my heart that I should kind of look for something to do this summer, and just get out and really do something incorporating special needs. I wasn’t really sure what that meant or how to do that, but I looked on AMG’s website and saw the need for help in Puebla, Mexico.”

Anelise Marshall, a student at Covenant College studying community development, will also be interning with AMG this summer. She says in AMG’s video blog: “This summer, I’m going to Spain for a month-and-a-half. I will be in Madrid for two weeks working at a safe house for women, and I will be in Torrevieja, which is two hours south of Valencia for about a month. I will be involved in the church there, and also be ministering to prostitutes once a week with a missionary family I will be staying with there.

“I’m really excited because all I know right now is just statistics, and I’ve just looked on websites and talked to people, but never had hands on experience, so I’m really excited to kind of get my feet wet and see if this is really where God is calling me…”

Tasos Ioannidis, president and CEO of AMG, says the benefit of missions internships is two-fold. He says he has seen many times, in opportunities like these, God work powerfully in the participant as well as those being served.

“We are truly grateful when people, in obedience, respond to God’s calling and are willing to go out of their comfort zone and out of the things they know, and go serve Him in another place,” he said in the AMG video blog. “It makes a huge difference. We have seen God do amazing things in people’s lives as they travel there. We have also seen them being used in amazing ways to impact others.”

Ioannidis asks that you pray for these girls as they begin they’re summer internships. He also asks that you prayerfully consider getting involved yourself, as AMG has multiple needs in its ministry around the world.
Spain (CAM) -- The movement of thousands of refugees to Spain presents opportunity.

Spain (CAM) — As a first step in addressing Europe’s refugee crisis, European Union (EU) leaders on Sept. 22 assigned 15,000 mainly Syrian refugees to Spain, with still greater batches to follow in subsequent years. Some in Spain fear the wave of Syrian refugees will bring more Muslim influence to a country where radical Islam has made inroads, but one Spanish ministry is eagerly welcoming them.

The refugees are Spain’s share of an initial distribution of 120,000 refugees across Europe. Having established churches in the southern province of Andalusia and in Morocco, which lies nearly nine miles from Spain’s southernmost point across the Strait of Gibraltar, the director of a ministry supported by Christian Aid Mission sees the EU plan as an unprecedented opportunity. In Ceuta, a Spanish enclave on Morocco’s northern tip, he already has substantial experience with Syrian refugees; he’s been proclaiming Christ to them for three years.

“Our experience is that they come to the Lord fast,” said the director, identified only as Antonio for security reasons. “They say, ‘We are here because Islam [jihadists such as the Islamic State] put us here and broke our family and broke our country,’ and they open very fast. There are house churches among Syrians.”

With 6,000 refugees arriving at European countries every day, more than 500,000 have flooded the continent’s borders this year, according to United Nations figures. While that figure may pale compared with the more than 4 million refugees that have fled to Turkey, Lebanon, and Jordan, the refugees have created political crises in Europe as infrastructures fray and cultures clash.

Only Germany and France have been assigned more refugees than Spain, which for decades has seen Muslim immigrants from Morocco grow into a kind of religious target group for competing radical Islamists from abroad–kindling Catholic-Muslim tensions in the autonomous region of Andalusia, named from the Arabic “Al-Andalus” caliphate of Muslim conquerors that ruled from 711 to 1492.

Analysts point to the revelation by Spain’s National Intelligence Center (CNI) in 2011 that Islamic-ruled countries from the Middle East and North Africa have channeled millions of dollars to radical Islamists in efforts to compete for Spain’s nearly 1.9 million Muslims, of which 800,000 are Moroccans. Saudi Arabia heads a list that includes Kuwait, Libya, Morocco, Oman, Qatar, and the United Arab Emirates, according to the CNI. Saudi Arabia funded a $30 million Islamic Cultural Center in Malaga, as well as mosques in Marbella and Fuengirola, for the purposes of promoting its repressive Wahhabi brand of Islam, according to the CNI.

Furthermore, imams in more than 100 mosques in Spain preach Islamic extremist doctrine, according to the Spanish daily ABC. Salafism, an Islamic extremist movement based on restoring the original traditions of Islam, has increased its presence in Spain, according to the newspaper.

As the Syrians and other refugees arrive, Spain’s Islamic centers also will be keen to welcome them, the ministry director said. Islamic extremists such as the Salafists aim to re-conquer Spain for Islam, Antonio said.

“It’s evident: in every place they go, they build a big mosque with a big minaret to say, ‘We are here,'” said Antonio. “Saudi Arabians are sending imams and money. They’re buying many things. They’re sending missionaries. They pay for a place, and they take control of the Muslims of the area.”

While extremist sects such as Salafism and Wahhabism tend to be separatist and discourage integration into Western society, Antonio said that, overall, Muslims quietly adapt when they are a small minority. As they become a majority through population growth, migration, and conversion, they seek to exercise more influence through government and influential networks, he said.

With deep love for Muslims in relationships he has developed in Morocco and in the Spanish enclave of Ceuta along Morocco’s northern-most border, Antonio can hardly be labeled an Islamophobe, even if some might read that into his description of Islamist wishes that he’s detected.

“They want Spain,” he said, citing Islamist wishes to retake Cordoba, with its Mosque-Cathedral of Cordoba–an architectural wonder that is more than 11 centuries old, and Granada, with its mighty Alhambra, a former Islamic palace and fortress complex. “They say, ‘This is my country, and we want it back.'”

Antonio said those who make first contact with the arriving Syrians will have the most impact.

“We’re encouraging the church to be the first to contact them and have an impact with them with the gospel,” he said. “I am beginning to work with 100 Syrian families just in Jerez, but I’m working with other believers to do the same. They say, ‘I don’t know how to work with Syrians.’ I said, ‘It doesn’t matter: you receive them, and I’m ready to work all year to train you so you can work with the Syrians.'”

About 30 volunteer workers help Antonio in the outreach in Jerez, and the same number of volunteers work in each of the other Spanish cities where his ministry has planted some of its nearly 70 house churches, including Seville, Malaga, Jaen, and Cordoba. In the three churches that he pastors, four or five people at each church receive Christ each week, he said.

His experience with Muslims includes proclaiming Christ and training leaders in Morocco, which has resulted in 100 small fellowships. Whereas in Morocco he takes care not to speak against Islam, in Spain he refrains from speaking against the dominant Roman Catholic Church, where surveys have repeatedly shown few practice their religion, and even those who do are rarely familiar with the Bible or Christ’s salvation.

“In the past, the missionaries didn’t do a good job in southern Spain; they began to fight against Catholicism,” Antonio said. “In the Bible, I don’t see Paul fighting against other religions. I only share the gospel. I share about Jesus, His love, how it changed my life, how He impacted my family and relatives. When you talk about this, they change.”

His ministry team establishes relationships with people by identifying their needs, which in southern Spain’s weak economy often means distributing food, visiting people in hospitals, and helping with other medical needs. Through EU networks, the ministry has ample access to food supplies, so Antonio said his main need is financial assistance for transportation, Bibles, and tracts.

“Gas is four times higher in Spain than what it is in the United States,” he said. “My main need is this, because it’s expensive to spread the gospel. People call me from Jaen, and I cannot go, because how am I going to pay for everything? It’s not possible.”

His ministry also hopes to renovate a building to start a Christian school for U.S. families at nearby Rota military base, which ultimately would render his ministry completely self-sustaining. Until then, he primarily seeks funds to purchase the Word of God in Arabic, Spanish, and English, and the wheels to get its message to otherwise unreached people before radical Islam reaches them.

International (Pioneers/MNN) — Pioneers USA is asking for prayer for Gospel workers and believers around the world facing heavy spiritual warfare.

Some of these prayer updates and requests include:

“They are afraid of one another and have many prejudices,” writes one Pioneer about Orthodox and Muslim women in the Balkans. One Pioneer is helping at a reconciliation workshop between Orthodox and Muslim women. Pray that this opportunity would give her new contacts for sharing the gospel.

Pioneers in East Asia found a woman lying in the street and realized that she had jumped from the second story of her building in a suicide attempt. They took her to the hospital and want to continue reaching out to her. Pray that God would make it possible.

Pray for the families of believers who recently lost their lives due to the actions of terror groups. Pray that they would not grow bitter as they grieve, but put their hope in the One who will “bring justice to the nations” (Isaiah 51:5).

One Pioneer in Spain is fasting from using English to help her use and rely more on Spanish. Please pray for these three weeks to help solidify her new language.

A Christian man in Asia was murdered, and one of his best friends, also a Christian, has been falsely accused of the crime. Pray for the families of both of these men, and ask God to bring justice and comfort.

Would you pray for these needs?

Pioneers mobilizes teams to glorify God among unreached peoples by initiating church-planting movements in partnership with local churches.
