Founder of For Haiti with Love now with the Lord

By April 19, 2006

USA (MNN) — A man who sacrificed it all to serve the people of Haiti is now with the Lord he served for so long. 71-year-old Don DeHart died Saturday, April 15 at his home in Palm Harbor, Florida after battling cancer.

Don and Eva DeHart started For Haiti with Love in 1982 after falling in love with the nation of Haiti after Don’s short-term mission trip to the country in the late 1960’s.

Since For Haiti’s inception, the mission has grown into an organization that reaches the physical and spiritual needs of the Haitian people in the Cap Haitian region. They run a food program, a 24-hour emergency medical clinic, construction program and much more, and it’s all done in the name of Christ.

Over the years, For Haiti has helped thousands of people by providing shelter, food, medicine, clothing and most importantly, Christ’s love.

DeHart is survived by his wife of 37 years, Eva and his 22 year old daughter, Roseline.

The DeHarts are committed keeping the Lord’s work alive and helping the people of Haiti. Pray for Eva and Roseline and the Haitian team as they grieve Don’s loss. Pray that God will use this as a way to open even more people’s hearts to the Gospel.

When asked if the work in Hiati will continue, Eva told us, “Don wouldn’t have it any other way.”

A memorial service will be held Monday April 24th in Florida. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to For Haiti with Love, P.O. Box 1017, Palm Harbor, FL 34682-1017.
