India (MNN) -- Mission India assembling Relief Kits and providing spiritual hope.

India (MNN) — Parts of India are drowning in a record-setting monsoon season. This week, the city of Kolkata in West Bengal suffered its heaviest rainfall in 39 years. In Punjab, farmlands nearly the size of London and New York City combined are underwater.

Flooding in Indian state of Andhra Pradesh, September 2025.

Raina Miller with Mission India says, “We’re getting reports from our partners in North India all the way down to South India about what’s happening in their regions. They share that in the state of Punjab, there are about 1.46 million people affected.”

For farmers and their communities, “they don’t have a means of earning income if their farmland is gone. They’ve got infrastructure down. There are some areas where you can only get around by boat right now because the flooding has blocked off all the roads. It’s damaged irrigation systems. It’s just impacted just about everything.”

Amidst tragedy, Mission India’s local partners are ready to respond with Christ’s comfort.

Miller says, “Once the flooding subsides and people start to rebuild, we’re able to welcome kids into Bible Clubs, and welcome illiterate adults into Literacy Classes where they can maybe even gain skills to help them build back and find new jobs that’ll land them in a better place than even where they started.

“Our church planters will be around ministering and encouraging people who are devastated as they deal with this loss.”

Flooding in Indian state of Andhra Pradesh, September 2025. (Photo courtesy of Mission India)

Additionally, Mission India is assembling Relief Kits to distribute to flood-impacted families.

“For $55, you can provide for one family and give them things like basic groceries, rice, tea, cooking ingredients, toothpaste, soap, and basic essentials that will help them get by when they’ve lost everything.”

Donate to Mission India’s flooding Relief Kits at missionindia.org/flood.

Miller asks, “Pray with us that this becomes an opportunity for people to lean on God and see the truth of the Gospel in the midst of their hopelessness.”

Nigeria (MNN) — Food insecurity plagues Nigeria, but it’s not just because it’s the lean season till September.

Nigeria (MNN) — Food insecurity plagues Nigeria, but it’s not just because it’s the lean season till September. More and more farmland is falling to attacks by militant Fulani herdsmen.

“We’re hearing stories of people who were farming 100 acres, but now they’re only farming five acres, because [of] the Fulani. Their objective is to run these farmers out,” said Greg Kelley with Unknown Nations.

Clashes between herdsmen and farmers have been happening in Nigeria since 2011. According to the World Food Programme, today nearly 5 million people in northeast Nigeria face acute food insecurity due to conflict.

“The big issue that’s happening right now is the movement. For so much of the conflict, whether it was Boko Haram or the Fulani herdsmen, it was really concentrated in the northern part of Nigeria, north of the capital, Abuja,” said Kelley.

But the attacks have spread from the north into Central Nigeria’s breadbasket. Benue State and Plateau State have been hard hit.

“The Fulani herdsmen, they have the cows, and they’ll run them through these areas and trash the farmers’ lands, which ultimately disrupts the food [harvest],” Kelley said.

“It’s not only the people that are dying immediately in the short term from the attacks, but the long-term instability is just threatening the entirety of this country.”

A Fulani attack on July 14th killed at least 32 people in a predominantly Christian farming village in Plateau State.

“We’re moving into the second decade of these atrocities happening, and they’re really being overlooked [by the] authorities,” said Kelley. “No one is being held accountable.”

Please pray for discipleship efforts that will reach northern Nigeria for Christ.

“We need to continue to multiply leaders. We need to continue to get resources [there] like our solar-powered audio Bible. There’s obviously a humanitarian crisis that is underlying this whole situation [too],” said Kelley.

“But ultimately, when we’re praying, we need to pray for disciple-making movements to take place.”

Nigeria (MNN) -- Much of the violence comes from Muslim Fulani herdsmen.

Nigeria (MNN) — A first-of-its-kind report was just released looking at ethnic and religious violence in Northern Nigeria. The Observatory for Religious Freedom in Africa examined incidents of extreme violence in the region between October 2019 and September 2023.

With 30,880 civilian deaths, the report found Christians were disproportionately targeted. Christians accounted for 16,769 of civilian deaths; 6,235 Muslims were killed. The rest had no known religious affiliation.

Much of the violence in northern Nigeria came from Fulani herdsmen. Greg Kelley with Unknown Nations says, “What aggravates it is the constraint of grazing land, and then the fact that the Fulani are Muslim and the farmers are Christian. So you have that religious tension that comes in there too.

“There are a lot of dynamics that are at work here; but fundamentally, Christians are being killed and…the government largely is non-responsive to these atrocities.”

Unknown Nations works with some Christians in southern Nigeria to go into the North with audio Bibles. But Kelley says those with the greatest heart to reach Muslims in northern Nigeria with the Gospel are Christians at risk in the North.

“That’s been our focus is, as we pray…how do we mobilize the Christians in the North? They will be the ones who will reach the Fulani. They will be the ones who reach the Hausa and the Kanuri.”

Pray for the resilience of faithful Nigerian Christians sharing Jesus in persecution. Ask God to open the eyes of Fulani Muslims to the truth of the Gospel.

“Until we get a heart for the nations that we will maybe never meet this side of eternity for the fact that they are separated from Jesus and an eternal presence with Him – until we get that conviction – then things are not going to change.”

Laos (MNN) – In Laos, poverty pushes people to seek opportunities elsewhere. According to World Bank, Laotian migrants to Thailand increased by 15% from June 2023 to February 2024.

One family was earning very little from their small vegetable farm. The father thought his children would have to find work across the border in Thailand. But with training from World Concern, the family learned how to cultivate mushrooms. Now they have a thriving business.

The father told World Concern:

“I hope to share this success with others as well, so we will all benefit from this. Thank you, World Concern, for giving me this opportunity to help my family. My wife and children love mushroom farming very much…. This is actually a double blessing. First, the mushroom farm helped me in providing for my family. Likewise, our family will stay together in our village. My children no longer need to go to Thailand to earn their keep in the future.”

Julia Boharski of World Concern says, “When times are tough or resources are stretched, they now have a sustainable source of income for him and his children.”

World Concern has similarly served the people of Laos since 1983 and over ten thousand Laotians in the last year alone. The organization works with the Laos government and the Ministry of Health to provide more resources to rural communities.

“Our activities that are present there is integrated development, so really focusing on those root causes of poverty,” Boharski says.

Partnering with community leaders, their programs range from improving health to preventing human trafficking. The majority of World Concern’s in-country team are Laotians and other South Asians, many of whom are local to the same areas they serve.

Boharski says, “Really, it’s just an effort of sustainability to learn from the community what their needs are, what are the risks that are posed to them and their children, and how can we just meet them where they are.”

Poland/Ukraine (MNN) -- SGA is helping Polish churches send aid into Ukraine.

Poland/Ukraine (MNN) — A grain dispute between neighboring countries Ukraine and Poland has escalated, and now Poland says it will stop supplying weapons to Ukraine for the war with Russia.

To understand the grain dispute, we have to look back to early in the war when Russia began attacking Ukraine’s food supply and grain facilities.

Since then, Eric Mock with Slavic Gospel Association (SGA) says, “Ukraine is looking for different ways to move their wheat, which includes moving their wheat and their grain into eastern Europe, which is diluting their own markets [in eastern Europe] and so their farmers are upset. So I think what we’re seeing is a little bit of the typical negotiations between the grain issues between each of the countries, especially Poland dealing with that issue and their own farmers.”

The European Union previously had a ban on Ukrainian grain imports that didn’t renew after September 15. Then last week, Poland decided to extend its own Ukrainian grain ban, raising diplomatic tensions with its war-torn neighbor.

Aid distribution in Ukraine. (Photo courtesy of SGA)

The stakes are high for Poland to protect national interests with a general election coming up on October 15.

However, more grain export bans and fewer weapons put Ukraine in a tough spot as the war drags on for its people. “It has meant that many young men are losing their lives – estimates [report] between 800 and 1,000 men a day,” says Mock.

Although Poland and Ukraine’s relationship is currently strained, Mock says Christians in Poland are still partnering with SGA to send Ukrainians aid.

Mock says, “We have several Polish Baptist churches who are working with — 110 of them — and several have faithfully been purchasing aid [for Ukrainians] with support from many donors through SGA.

“Thousands of them are helping us to purchase that aid. They purchase it, package it, put it on pallets, and then pastors and truck drivers come from Ukraine to Poland to pick up that aid.

“SGA has now…helped churches provide 19 million meals since the war began. The result of that is reaching over 600,000 people with the Gospel.”

Aid to children and families in Ukraine. (Photo courtesy of SGA)

It’s an amazing demonstration of how God is meeting suffering Ukrainian’s needs, even when political powers fail.

“That’s only possible working through churches, and it’s only possible through churches helping churches,” says Mock. “So by God’s design, it’s an amazing time but the job isn’t over. So I encourage your listeners to continue to hold fast with the people in Ukraine.”

Pray for Church unity across Ukraine and Poland, and for Ukrainians’ spiritual encouragement with these food and aid deliveries from churches.

Uganda (MNN) — From raiders to redeemed farmers. A dramatic life change.

Uganda (MNN) — The current famine in Karamoja, one of Uganda’s poorest regions, is one of the worst in recent years. Up to 75% of the Karamojong people are facing food insecurity. Drought plays a big part in the food insecurity, but it’s worsened by supply chain issues and ongoing conflict.

The Karamojong people are pastoralists and primarily raise cattle. A man’s worth among the Karamojong is based on the number of cattle he possesses.

Mark Luckey, executive director of Every Child Ministries, explains, “There’s a lot of insecurity because the Karamojong have a belief — which sounds crazy to us, but it’s a real belief that they have — that all the cattle in the world belong to the Karamojong. So it is their right to take whatever cattle they want because they all belong to them. They’re very willing to even kill other people…. You would steal cattle even from other Karamojong and even kill other Karamojong to gain more cattle.”

(Photo courtesy of Every Child Ministries)

They also don’t often accept help from outsiders. ECM works in Karamoja, but before they can talk food and farming, Luckey says, “First of all, they need to know Jesus.

“They need to have that relationship with God restored. That’s why evangelism is such an important tool in these areas because, yes, we want them to eat. We want them to have enough food. We want them to send their kids to school. But none of that is going to happen as long as that relationship with God is broken.

“From there, the relationship with each other is where we can come in and help them build those relationships. And then maybe farming techniques will take root and they’ll be able to improve in some of those areas. Maybe then they’ll be more receptive to advice and input from outside.”

ECM has introduced an African-developed farming program to the Karamojong people called Farming God’s Way. Luckey says this program is “very scripturally-based, very God-centered. That in itself becomes a tool of evangelism that we use [while], at the same time, teaching farming techniques that work better.”

Currently, there are 120 farming units in the program with ECM in Karamoja

“The results have been good! If you use proper farming methods, you can grow food even if you don’t have a lot of water,” Luckey says. “Now, if you have an incredible drought, that’s going to affect everything. But typically, you can get by with even lesser amounts of rain if you use the proper methods.”

(Photo courtesy of Every Child Ministries)

Luckey and other ECM staff visited a farmer’s home and the farmer had a granary. Even in the midst of famine, Luckey says, “She took us over to the granary and they took two people and they got up on top and they took the big lid off the top. The corn just fell off the top, there was so much in there!

“That was just to me a perfect sign of how God can provide — that despite a lack of rain, when people are open and look to Him and listen to the trainings that other people can give them, they can grow food. They can be successful and it can be overflowing more than they can fit in their granary basket.”

Pray for the Karamojong to know abundant life in Christ! Ask God to equip new Karamojong believers to reach their people with the Gospel.

Sri Lanka (MNN) — Last year, crowds stormed the home of then-president Gotabaya Rajapaksa.

Sri Lanka (MNN) — The Sri Lankan government has cracked down on protests. Last year, crowds stormed the home of then-president Gotabaya Rajapaksa and forced him to flee the country.

Rajeeve Sathianathan with Christian World Outreach says, “The government uses the military to control the protests a lot. They arrested so many people. So that has gone down. They have allocated certain spots in the capitol for people to go and protest. So those are the only places that they’re allowed to do.”

Economy

Economically, people continue to suffer. The government has allowed fertilizer back into the country so that farmers can grow food. But those crops have not yielded yet.

Severe fuel shortages continue as well. Sathianathan says, “My father has a vehicle, a car, and he can get only 20 liters a week. That’s it. And our CWO mission person has a motorbike. He is allowed to take only four liters a week.”

“The price has gone up, but people did not get any increase in their pay, right? Their pay is still the same.”

Many kids can’t go to school because even though schooling is free, textbooks and other supplies are not.

CWO work

Sathianathan says CWO reaches out to kids in the villages they serve. “We are helping them with books and their school stationery. That is a huge thing. Also, a lot of kids cannot go to school. So we help them after hours, teaching them to read and write.”

CWO works in remote Sri Lankan villages, and getting there is a challenge. One ministry worker waits hours to catch a bus.

In the coming months, CWO hopes to start growing food for the impoverished people they serve.

CWO also helps local Christian communities with discipleship and leadership training. They work in villages throughout the country. Ask God to touch many lives.

West Africa (MNN) — The Fulani people make up one of the largest ethnic groups across West Africa.

West Africa (MNN) — The Fulani people make up one of the largest ethnic groups across West Africa. They are known for living a nomadic lifestyle, keeping herds of cattle across Nigeria, Niger, Mali, Guinea, and Senegal.

Greg Kelley with World Mission says, “They are constantly looking for pasture land. And they just go through these farming areas and privately-owned land to graze their cattle. They wind up destroying private property. As you can imagine, there’s a tremendous amount of conflict that comes with that.”

Religious conflict

The Fulani overwhelmingly identify as Muslim, although the herdsmen tend to be less strict in their practice than those who live in cities. The farmers they clash with tend to be Christians. This creates a religious dimension to the conflict.

But many Fulani themselves become Christians. Kelley says, “In most instances when someone comes to know Jesus out of the Fulani, their family entirely rejects them. They’re kicked out in some cases or physically persecuted. We even hear of people being killed.

The Fulani can be a difficult people group to engage with. But Kelley says, “We have really dozens of missionaries, former Muslim Fulani, that are now sharing the Gospel using our solar-powered audio Bibles in the different dialects.”

Fulani groups speak several different dialects, depending on where they live. Kelley says hearing the Biblical texts in Arabic can be powerful for the Fulani as well since that is the primary language through which they engage with Islam.

Ministry

Kelley says it comes down to friendship. “We’re not trying to twist their arm and have some kind of debate with them about why Christianity is better than Islam. It’s about introducing them to Jesus and allowing the Holy Spirit to work.”

“The missionaries are doing strategic humanitarian projects, like water projects.”

Ask the Holy Spirit to move among the Fulani. You can support World Mission’s work here.

Niger (MNN) -- These predominantly Muslim groups often attack Christians.

Niger (MNN) — In Niger, God is working among the Fulani and Tuareg tribes, predominantly Muslim groups that often attack Christians.

Todd Nettleton with The Voice of the Martyrs USA says, “There are converts, people who are following Christ, out of those tribes that are then literally going village to village. They are sharing the Gospel and finding great fertile soil for the seeds of the Gospel that are being planted.”

Nettleton says we need to remember this when we hear about attacks against Christians by these groups. “Don’t fail to remember that God is at work among the Fulani. I’ve seen some amazing pictures of Fulani in their full tribal regalia, with their headcovers, being baptized into the kingdom of God.”

Tribal conflicts

These groups have often been used as pawns by outside political forces who want to promote radical Islam. Other attacks stem from the differing needs of farmers and herdsmen or different tribal disputes.

Praise God for the work He is doing among the Fulani and the Tuareg. Nettleton says, “The Book of Revelations promises people of every tribe and tongue and nation will worship Jesus. We’re seeing that happen in our day, so we celebrate the work of God.”

Persecution

Pray for those that may face persecution. Nettleton says, “Oftentimes in these tribal situations, the first line of persecution is your own family. It’s your dad or your big brother. It’s somebody in your family who says, ‘Wait a minute, we’re a Muslim family. You can’t be a Christian. You can’t be part of this family and be a follower of Christ.’ So we pray for brothers and sisters who are going through that right now.”

Many even wonder if they should tell their families at all, or who to tell first.

Mexico (MNN) -- Several major water reservoirs in Mexico stand at very low levels.

Mexico (MNN) — In 1979, the construction of a dam flooded an old Mexican church and buried it under a lake. Now, it has re-emerged above the water. The reason? An intense drought has choked parts of the country over the last two years.

Several major water reservoirs in Mexico stand at very low levels, especially in northern parts of the country. Brian Dennett of AMG International says changing weather patterns are to blame. “It’s not every place or every region, but there are many farmers that have lost their crops. There are areas that are rationing water, and people have really been affected. We’ve seen this in a few areas where AMG works where people are just short on cash and can’t get new crops planted because the old crops didn’t produce, so it’s kind of a cycle that’s very problematic.”

AMG has a mission to reach in Mexico people with the good news of Jesus. They run a variety of ministries, ranging from sports and youth programs to church leadership training. You can support this work by donating to AMG.

Dennett says, “Please be praying for farmers in particular that have lost their crops. When they lose what really has been an entire season of work, and are unable to profit from that, it’s very challenging.”
