Haiti (MNN) — The country is unraveling under gang control, nearing failed-state conditions.

Haiti (MNN) — Haiti is unraveling under gang control, pushing the nation closer to failed-state conditions.

A recent gang massacre in Haiti’s Artibonite region killed at least 70 people, destroyed more than 50 homes, and forced about 6,000 to flee. Even as National Police deploy armored vehicles, gangs controlling much of the capital continue their brutality, with instability spreading beyond Port-au-Prince.

“This is both a humanitarian crisis and a spiritual crisis,” says Brian Dennett with AMG International.

Families are living in constant fear. There have been kidnappings, shootings, and destruction of property — evidence of a broader collapse in Haiti, with very few basic services available. Hospitals have shut down due to the violence, and more than 1.4 million people have been displaced, fleeing their homes.

As violence has overtaken the capital, many families have fled, heading south of Port-au-Prince.

“These regions, which were very quiet previously, are now pretty overwhelmed with all of these displaced people. And many of them are arriving with nothing,” adds Dennett.

As systems collapse, ministries are stepping in.

“We came up with a strategy with our team,” explains Dennett, “there to enter specific communities where there were a lot of displaced people.” They are providing food, clothing, water, and shelter while also establishing churches and hosting outreach.

The Gospel follows the aid. “People are are looking for hope. They’re looking for truth, and so as we come alongside and meet their most desperate needs, we are also sharing the love of Jesus and the Gospel with them,” says Dennett.

They have expanded Bible school work, equipping a new generation of pastors and leaders. Their hope is to reach tens of thousands of people with the Gospel, while also providing support during this difficult time.

“I think this is a really unique opportunity in Haiti for the church to rise up in a time where their systems really have collapsed,” adds Dennett.

Pray the Church will shine in the chaos, and that ministries have the resources to continue serving those in need.

Haiti (MNN) — Do you ever get used to disasters? The importance of walking alongside people in hardship.

Haiti (MNN) — Starting February 24, heavy rain fell in the Cap-Haïtien region of Haiti, leading to severe flooding. As people scrambled to rebuild their lives, the ministry stepped in to walk alongside them.

“Do you ever get used to disasters?” asks Rosaline DeHart from For Haiti With Love, reflecting on recent events in Haiti.

Cap-Haïtien saw major flooding after days of relentless rain beginning February 24. “It’s just an intense rain that never stopped. It went on for a week, and the rain has no place to go,” says DeHart.

The flooding is made worse by limited infrastructure to manage the aftermath. “It’s leaving all the trash and mud behind because there’s not really a drainage system in Cap-Haitian,” she adds.

Flood in Haiti (Photo courtesy of FHWL)

While flooding is not unusual in Haiti, DeHart says people never truly get used to it. Recent disasters have shaken daily life in Cap-Haïtien and often people’s faith as well. That’s where practical ministry steps in.

“We had a food program for people who could come up to eat,” says DeHart.

And for those needing shelter, the ministry provided housing in the mountains, away from the flooding. “We fed them and gave them clean clothing — dry and clean — and took care of the kids also,” she adds.

In the midst of disaster, For Haiti With Love seeks to show people that God is with them in their suffering.

“We are God’s hands and feet, not just telling them the words, but showing it through action also,” says DeHart.

Pray for the people of Haiti, especially those affected by the flooding. Pray for continued opportunities to serve the community and for strength to do so.

Haiti (MNN) — On February 7, Haiti began its latest attempt at government stability after almost five years of being without a president.

February 7 is historically the day for Haiti when new presidents are inaugurated. Instead of that this year, the transitional presidential council established in 2024 dissolved, handing power to one man, United States-backed Prime Minister Alix Didier Fils-Aime.

(Photo of Haitians courtesy of TopSphere Media via Unsplash.)

“[The council’s] task was really to control the gang violence and to lead presidential elections. Those things have not happened,” says Kate Michel with Radio-TV 4VEH, a partner of Trans World Radio in Haiti. “Now the head of state is the prime minister. What that looks like in the days ahead, we don’t really know.”

Late last year, the transitional council set tentative election dates for August and December 2026. But those plans remain in question as Haiti’s security continues to deteriorate.

“One of the biggest things that has happened since President Jovenel Moïses’s assassination in 2021 is this vacuum in power, and gangs jostling to step into that power. There are other actors who are at play, also trying to wrestle for power,” says Michel.

As always, the Haitian people pay the highest price. A January 30 report from the United Nations estimates that more than 5,915 people were killed in Haiti’s violence last year alone. Daily life continues to be difficult, including many of the things some people in other nations take for granted.

“Kids can’t go to school in some places. People can’t operate their businesses. They can’t go to work. They have trouble getting supplies,” says Michel.

Gospel broadcasts encourage the Haitian church

Yet Michel sees believers in Haiti living out their faith despite the difficulties. “They are not immune to all the chaos going on around them. They’re living in it. They’re dealing with it,” she says. “And yet they’re able to say, ‘I still have hope, because my hope is in Christ.’”

That resilient hope in God is what 4VEH seeks to encourage. Its gospel-centered broadcasts include Bible reading, preaching, prayer, family counseling, sports programs, and more.

“We’d ask for prayer, so that 4VEH — ‘the evangelistic voice of Haiti’ — can be on the air every day and be that gospel voice to Haiti’s people,” says Michel.

4VEH staff exhibits perseverance every day. Pray for their protection and for their families to have everything they need. Pray very practically for the team’s facilities as well, where electricity and equipment are sometimes a challenge.

Pray also for the spiritual battle. Michel says that’s the real issue in the political chaos, economic struggles, and hardships for Haiti’s people. She shares a letter one listener wrote to the ministry: “Dear 4VEH: If I’m alive today, it’s because you rescued me from Satan’s hands. That’s why I say that God help you to go further. Thank you 4VEH. I love you in Jesus.”

“That’s what we want to see happening as God’s Kingdom advances, is that people are being rescued from Satan’s hands and are coming into the family of God and living the lives that God intends them to live,” Michel says.

Burkina Faso (MNN) — Two African countries answered the U.S. ban with restrictions on Americans.

Burkina Faso (MNN) — Two African countries answered the U.S. ban with restrictions on Americans, and ministries are adjusting.

As President Donald Trump added nationals from Mali and Burkina Faso to the list of countries facing restricted entry to the U.S., both countries responded with their own limits, barring Americans from traveling there.

Beyond political tensions and disrupted private travel plans, another sphere is also affected: ministry. For Christian World Outreach, Burkina Faso is the second country — after Haiti — impacted by the law. Yet the organization’s long-standing strategy is helping it adapt.

Greg Yoder with Christian World Outreach says, “That may become an issue at some point, but right now, it is not affecting our ministry.”

Kids in Ouagadougou, Burkina Faso (Photo courtesy of Fatih Turan via Pexels)

Yoder says the hardest part hasn’t been logistics yet. It has been the loss of in-person interaction.

“Working with leadership, it’s good to be face to face at times, and to work together, to plan ministry,” he explains.

CWO works alongside local leaders in Burkina Faso and trusts them to carry the ministry forward. That approach has helped them avoid the travel ban’s immediate impact. They also prioritize local products and services whenever possible.

“We have taken on the mindset that we want to help support the local economy and the businessmen there, and so we try to purchase things in country as much as possible,” Yoder explains.

To put it in perspective, buying supplies locally often goes further than shipping them from abroad, since the cost of one container shipment could cover a large amount of in-country purchases.

Burkina Faso continues to face drought, low literacy, extremist violence, and a fragile economy. CWO serves communities through healthcare, education, and practical projects.

For now, teams continue to stay connected through regular communication.

“For today, we’ve stayed connected with our leaders, and we communicate back and forth as often as we need to, and so we’re just grateful for God, for technology,” Yoder says.

While ministry continues, the situation in the world is changing rapidly — especially in the countries CWO serves, including Haiti, Zimbabwe, Burkina Faso, South Africa, and Sri Lanka. Please pray for local workers’ protection, strength of faith, and the guidance of the Holy Spirit.

“Pray for safety and security of our staff and the students,” encourages Yoder.

Haiti (MNN) — A new ban list increases the pressure on Haitian nationals.

Haiti (MNN) — A new U.S. travel ban takes effect today. The update to an earlier June ban list (Proclamation 10949) now includes 19 countries, such as Afghanistan, Burma, Iran, Syria, and Haiti, whose citizens have full restrictions and limits on entry to the U.S.

Haiti has been on the ban list since June, but the new rules remove several exceptions that had provided some breathing room.

“In general, this new ban makes it very complicated for Haitian families who have family members already in the U.S., and that’s the case for many, many families in Haiti,” says Kate Michel with Radio-TV 4VEH, a partner ministry of Trans World Radio that serves Haiti. “[The ban] puts a lot of pressure on those who are earning and sending money back to Haiti.”

(Photo of Haitians is a representative stock photo courtesy of TopSphere Media via Unsplash)

The ban places a psychological pressure too, Michel adds, as Haitians living in Haiti “realize that they are excluded from potentially being in the U.S. and starting a new life.”

January 1 also marks Haiti’s Independence Day. Families will make soup joumou, a traditional, pumpkin-based dish that has been a staple since the early 1800s. “Typically, on New Year’s Day in Haiti, people will go from house to house and enjoy this soup joumou with different families. Each home, each cook, has a different way of cooking it,” says Michel.

But developments like this travel ban take a toll on Haitians’ hope.

“People in Haiti don’t want to leave Haiti. That’s not their first choice. They really are looking for a way out of their current very difficult circumstances,” says Michel. “People are looking for a better life. They’re looking for meaning. They’re looking for ways to take care of their families.”

4VEH is beginning a read-through-the-Bible-in-a-year program to help Haitians stand firm in Scripture. Many don’t have the option to read the Bible for themselves, for a variety of reasons, Michel explains.

“We would invite you to pray with us for the gospel message to be proclaimed across Haiti and beyond,” she says. That includes the technical details of radio broadcasts, as well as a deeper level.

“Pray that as people are feeling unwanted, that they will get a sense that God is offering them hope, offering them a future, offering them being adopted into His family, and that people will turn to Christ and give their lives to Him.”

Haiti (MNN) — For the first time in four decades, For Haiti with Love will not host its annual Christmas party for children in Haiti.

Haiti (MNN) — For the first time in four decades, For Haiti with Love will not host its annual Christmas party for children in Haiti.

“We usually have the Christmas party for 500 children, but this year we have to cancel it, because of traveling” says Roseline DeHart of For Haiti with Love.

The decision comes amid growing uncertainty tied to expanded U.S. travel restrictions that now include Haiti. With the travel ban set to expand on January 1, 2026, there is uncertainty about whether commercial flights will continue operating reliably between Haiti and the United States. The risk of ministry teams becoming stranded made travel impossible this year.

The cancellation is especially painful because the children expect the event every year.

Haitian girl (Photo courtesy of Zachary Vessels via Pexels)

“A lot of kids will be very sad, because they all know the party is going to happen, and they’re used to it, so they will be very disappointed,” DeHart explains.

The Christmas party has long been more than a celebration. During the event, children hear the story of Jesus’ birth and His love for them.

“And the kids would go home and tell their parents and their neighbors. That’s how it [the Gospel] spreads,” DeHart says.

Despite the canceled party, the ministry’s work in Haiti continues. Local Haitian staff are still operating the clinic, overseeing construction projects, and carrying out other outreach efforts. Teams in the United States continue to provide supplies and guidance remotely.

“We have all the nurses down there doing everything. When they run out of supplies, we send that to them,” DeHart adds.

Please pray for Haiti, where communities are engulfed by ongoing gang violence. Pray also for the children who were expecting the Christmas party — that they will remember what they heard in past years and continue sharing it with their families and peers.

“God can do anything, and we just continue praying that things will change,” DeHart says.

Haiti (MNN) — Haitians in the capital’s outskirts and rural areas pray earnestly to leave home safely and return alive.

Haiti (MNN) — The gangs were partially pushed from Port-au-Prince, Haiti’s capital. However, their ruthless, indiscriminate brutality now falls on people outside the city.

Children beaten after a football match turned violent, a woman accused of witchcraft and murdered, a person killed while traveling from one village to another — these are just a few of the stories of Haitians suffering under gang violence.

Death or attack feel unpredictable in the country, leaving many anxious to survive.

Though gangs were partially pushed from Port-au-Prince, their violence has spread to the outskirts and rural areas. Roseline DeHart from For Haiti With Love said, “Lives are getting harder every day. Things are very hard right now in Haiti, and Haiti needs help from its neighbors.”

Aerial view of Port-au-Prince (Photo courtesy of Matteo Favre via Pexels)

Over 700 were wounded. On top of that, sexual abuse and kidnappings are widespread. Victims of the gangs are often chosen at random, including children.

DeHart added, “We need other countries to realize that Haiti needs help, to come and help Haiti.”

For Haiti With Love continue their work of Gospel in Haiti, helping those displaced, local communities, children, and more. They are also preparing a Christmas celebration for hundreds of kids with hot meals, toys, and the Gospel.

DeHart says, “We want to help as many as we can, but so many people have moved into the Cap-Haïtien area, and there are street kids everywhere. It’s become overwhelming, and we’re doing the best we can with what we have.”

Among their ministries is a free burn clinic. After patients are treated and reach for their wallets, staff tell them Jesus has already paid the cost. DeHart explained, “That’s when they break out crying and want to know who this Jesus is. And then we tell them about Jesus!”

Haiti (MNN) — In all its turmoil, there's still hope in Haiti.

Haiti (MNN) — November 18, 2025 was Vertières Day in Haiti, the 222nd anniversary of the last major battle in its war for independence. But these days, the nation is far from strong.

In October, Haitian officials declared that plans for 2026 general elections will have to be delayed due to expanding gang power.

“It’s not a surprise that elections get delayed. It’s something that we’ve seen a number of times over the last couple of decades,” says Kate Michel with Radio-TV 4VEH, a ministry partner of Trans World Radio.

Michel says that with more than 10% of Haiti’s 12 million people displaced, “just thinking of the logistics of how elections could be held, it’s hard to see how they could be run fairly and safely.”

Meanwhile, life in Cap Haitien in northern Haiti is congested. Many people have fled there, away from gang violence. Michel says there’s an underlying fear that gangs in central Haiti will carry out their threats to come north. It’s one more factor that makes the gospel-centered broadcasts from 4VEH even more important for Haitians.

The prayer support and biblical foundations of 4VEH’s programming remind listeners “that they have a solid foundation to stand on, and that is the Word of God and His promises, and those things that we can hold fast to,” says Michel.

Find your place in Haiti’s story

In all the turmoil, remember that Haiti is no different from other nations in its need for God’s mercy and grace to move forward.

Please pray for fair elections in Haiti next year that will build stability. Pray also for 4VEH, as it is dealing with some broken equipment and rising costs.

“There are some people who would normally be connected to 4VEH who are not able to get those broadcasts. So we really would value the prayer to get those pieces of equipment fixed so that people can hear the programs again,” says Michel.

“We’ve seen inflation go up dramatically, and that has an impact on all of the day-to-day operations. Pray that the Lord will meet those needs so that we don’t have to cut any of the ministry that we offer.”

Haiti (MNN) — 4VEH is broadcasting Gospel hope amidst the disaster.

Haiti (MNN) — Flooding from Hurricane Melissa has killed at least 25 people in Haiti and left 18 others missing as the storm tore through the Caribbean this week.

Officials say the worst of the flooding struck Haiti’s southern region. Houses collapsed or were swept away, and people were still trapped under rubble as of Wednesday.

Laurent Saint-Cyr, president of Haiti’s transitional presidential council, says the government is mobilizing resources for search and rescue operations and emergency relief.

Haitians in the capital, Port-au-Prince — already displaced by gang violence — were hit as torrential rain flooded makeshift shelters and tent homes.

Kate Michel with Radio-TV 4VEH, a partner ministry of Trans World Radio in Haiti, says the loss is compounded by Haitians’ living situations.

“A lot of Haiti’s people are living in very vulnerable areas,” Michel explains. “They may be living in vulnerable housing that doesn’t really withstand strong winds. They may be living on the side of a hill or mountain that, when there’s a lot of heavy rainfall, the streams just come flooding down the hillside.

“My expectation is that we will see and hear more news of perhaps lives lost or people injured, people missing, homes affected, roads cut off, [and] communities stranded.”

While the storm battered Haiti’s south, 4VEH’s broadcast center on the northern coast continues to operate. In times of crisis, 4VEH becomes a practical and spiritual lifeline.

“A lot of the areas where we broadcast have no other radio stations or connections with the outside world,” Michel says. “So, particularly when there’s a very serious storm coming, we may change our programming hours, we may do more live broadcasts… and then we always have a very strong focus on prayer during our daily broadcasts.”

Now, as Haiti reels from the floods, Michel urges believers to pray. “People will have lost friends, neighbors, and family members. Maybe they’ve lost their homes and their crops and their livelihoods…. Let’s pray that the Lord will raise up the help that they need.”

Haiti (MNN) -- The number of displaced children has nearly doubled in the past year.

Haiti (MNN) — The number of displaced children in Haiti has nearly doubled in the past year, UNICEF reports.

Gang violence, malnutrition, and loss of educational services and infrastructure feed into each other, forming a “polycrisis” that threatens Haiti’s Next Generation.

(Photo courtesy of Zach Vessels via Unsplash)

A lack of schooling makes kids especially vulnerable to danger. Even when people flee to areas where there are schools, “They don’t have the money, because all they took with them is the clothes on their backs,” For Haiti With Love’s Roseline DeHart explains.

“Surviving is a priority.”

Many displaced families and kids live on the streets. “This is also a problem,” De Hart says, “because anybody can give those kids money to go do any trouble – anything they want them to do – just for survival.”

For Haiti With Love points the people they serve to God and to hope in Him for their future. When they have the budget, they give food, build homes, and offer a school support program.

“We always tell them that God doesn’t want them to live like that. Even though the country is the way it is, it’s not God’s plan,” De Hart says.

“They’re the future of Haiti. They can go to school and make it better, and God has a plan for them.”

Pray for God’s mercy on Haiti and consider giving financially to For Haiti With Love. “We just keep doing all we can, and we ask for support so we can continue to do it,” De Hart says.
