USA (MNN) -- Global Action announces winner of India trip. The winner is...

USA (MNN) — India is a hot place. But in the winter, it's cold. Statistics tell us that anywhere between 6,000 and 10,000 people die every winter because of exposure, especially in the northern areas of the country. That's why Global Action is distributing blankets to those in need–and doing so through the local church.

This year, Global Action is sending four teams to India to hand out badly-needed blankets.

During the month of May, Global Action decided to offer a Mission Network News friend an opportunity to go on one of these trips. We gathered hundreds of names and testimonies of people who felt God's call to go minister to those in need. The contest came to a conclusion June 1 when we drew the name of Heather Stennet from Michigan.

In her testimony, Stennet writes, "For about 2 1/2 months now, the country of India has been on my heart. I had spent some time praying about what I could do for the Lord as a young single lady, and during that time, India kept coming up: six times in a two-week period, to be exact."

According to Stennet, she didn't take this lightly. "I took time to fast about the possibility of going — asking God if this was only my desire, or if He was really leading me there."

When Mission Network News called to tell her about winning the drawing, she said, "I'm kind of shaking." Stennet told us she had been wanting to go to India to visit her mentor's sister. However, "Working through all of the things, I wasn't going to be able to afford it. I had no clue how I was going to come up with the money." Through tears, she says, "I think that just adds to the fact that it's totally God."

Stennet will be traveling to India this fall to help distribute blankets to those in need, and sharing Christ in the process.

International (MNN) -- A winner's been picked! Find out who's going on a Buckner mission trip for free!

International (MNN) — Last month, Mission Network News gave listeners and readers an opportunity to win a free mission trip with Buckner International.

February has ended, and a winner has been picked. Congratulations to the contestant who was randomly selected: Lois from Pennsylvania!

Her first reaction to the news that she'd won had us laughing. "No, I don't win," she told MNN's Greg Yoder who spoke with her by phone. Later she said, "I'm so excited. I guess I just keep waiting for a catch!"

There's no catch, though. Lois will board a plane for the first time to go to Guatemala on a Mother/Daughter Orphan Care trip, to Mexico or Peru with Shoes for Orphan Souls, or to Peru on a Christmas trip. Whichever she chooses, the trip costs will be paid in full. Lois can serve the Lord and His children with no added financial stress.

Lois hopes to join the Guatemala trip in June and bring her daughter along with her. It could be an invaluable experience for both.

Pray that God would use Lois–and potentially her daughter, as well–as a light while she serves orphans overseas for the first time.

This trip giveaway was not MNN's first, and it won't be the last. Keep your eyes on our Web site for more opportunities to serve the Lord.

If you didn't win but are interested in one of the Buckner trips mentioned, you can still go. Learn more here.

USA (MNN) -- Kids Alive selects winner to travel to Guatemala

USA (MNN) — Kids Alive International says they have a winner! Last month, Mission Network News and Kids Alive gave you an opportunity to enter to win an all-expenses-paid Kids Alive Vacation with a Purpose trip for two to Guatemala.

This year's winner? Ron Nealeigh from Nebraska. We asked him why he signed up. "I heard you on the news broadcast, and you mentioned it a couple days. I love going on missions trips and serving different places and serving when I can. I thought, 'Well, I never win anything; why invest the time to do it?' Then I decided, to go ahead and put my name in for a chance to go over and serve someplace. That would be a great opportunity."

Nealeigh is an active member of his church missions program. He will be taking his wife, Ellen, on the trip. "She's been to Canada, but she hasn't been to South America or Central America, so this will be a quite a trip for her."

Kids Alive reflects the love of Christ by rescuing orphans and vulnerable children, nurturing them with quality holistic care and sharing with them the transforming power of Jesus Christ so they are enabled to give hope to others. Kids Alive works in Guatemala and 16 other nations.

This is the second year in a row that Kids Alive has given away a vacation with a purpose. Pray that God will use this trip in the Nealeigh family to increase their passion for missions not only in their own lives, but in their church fellowship as well.

USA (MNN) -- Winners announced in Voice and Hands of Jesus contest

USA (MNN) — HCJB Global has announced 10 winners in its "Voice and Hands of Jesus" contest. The winners are from various parts of the U.S., but their trips span the globe. More than 800 people voted online, narrowing down the contestants.

"We are very, very happy," said Jon Hirst with HCJB. "Not only are we happy with the results of the winners, but also the quality of the project. We've got people going to places like Haiti or Bulgaria, or in the United States working in Tucson, Minnesota, or California.

Each winner was rewarded with $200 to help with trip costs, as well as a Flip video camera to record their experience. When they return from their trip, their video will be used in a 2-3 minute compilation video and posted online along with a "before and after" story.

For everyone who sees them, "we hope that the videos will show in a very live, present, and real way that every Christian's voice and hands can be used by God in a powerful, powerful way to impact His Kingdom — not only in their households, not only in their communities, but in every corner of the Earth," said Hirst. It is a way for people to see exactly what it means to be the "voice and hands of Jesus."

Each trip is unique, and the winners range from age 20 to 67. One of the contestants, Vonn
Dornbush, age 50, will be traveling to Pelican Rapids, Minnesota from his hometown in Shoreview, Minnesota. The team he is leading will visit seniors in their homes, help Latin migrant workers fix up their houses, run a vacation Bible study, and send prayer teams to nursing homes and Latino families. Another winner, Kristin Vanderwell, will spend six weeks in Haiti working mostly with children infected with HIV/AIDS.
